December 2017 MoonBox "Cold Moon" Review
Winter's here! To help me embrace this chilly season, MoonBox has put together a collection of metaphysical gifts aimed at rest and rejuvenation:
The box includes a double-sided card worth of "to-dos" for how to use each item in the box.
The box also includes a card about the season's moon. This month, we're celebrating the "Cold Moon" which heralds a period of deep, much-needed rest before the new year. According to the card, this period is a great opportunity to let your (literal and figurative) dreams run wild and to trust yourself to find your way down those new pathways in the new year.
MoonBox Tea
Each box includes a loose-leaf tea blend customized to match the vibe of the month. This month, the tea is a blend of peppermint, jasmine flowers, cornflowers, chicory, and birch bark. The peppermint is the overwhelming flavor here, but the earthy undertones are nice, too. I love the deep sapphire color of the cornflower petals, too! They're so beautiful and coordinate perfectly with the dark, wintry vibes of this box.
MoonBox Essential Oil Rollerball
Another usual suspect in these boxes is a custom essential oil blend, which arrives in a convenient rollerball. I'm not sure how much is here, as it's not labeled, but the container part of the package (not counting the neck of the rollerball or the lid) is about 2 inches tall. It's small enough to live in a pocket or purse. This month's scent features Moroccan and Virginian cedarwood, pink grapefruit, myrrh, frankincense, patchouli, fresh ginger, and peppermint. I was definitely not expecting this kind of aroma, but I really love it! The blend of light, bright wood and grapefruit smells almost like a glass of dry, sparkling rosé. (Perfect for the holidays!) There's a subtle headiness to it, too, thanks to the myrrh, frankincense, and patchouli.
Now for my favorite part of the box—the crystals! This card includes information about what each stone is and the powers it's said to hold.
Angelite
This smooth blue stone is just over an inch long. Apart from a few white speckles, it has a cloudy periwinkle color to it, almost like the sky on an overcast day. According to the little card, this stone is said to promote your sense of intuition, hope, and faith, and connects to the throat chakra, which is all about communication.
Aqua Calcite
The color of this stone caught my eye right out of the gate. Its cloudy jade-like color and ripples of white give it the effect of looking into deep, tropical water. It's only about an inch big, and its shape reminds me of a piece of pie. I'm not surprised that this serenely hued stone is said to work with the heart chakra to promote serenity and the release of stress.
Rhodolite Garnets in Schist
I could stare at the fascinating surface of this flatter, 2.5-inch stone for hours. The best way I can describe it is like a well-used one of those gray, clay-like, kneaded erasers I remember from high school art class. There are stretched bits of stone that look more like fibers or mashed-up bubble gum than rock. But there are shimmering gems within the crevices and pockets within that gray stone. The card says that this stone helps promote your feeling of self-worth. It's fitting for this stone, which at first glance looks simple, but reveals a galaxy of beautiful details upon a second look.
Pyramid of Power Bath Bomb by Our Earth's Magic, 55g - Retail Value $7.00
I get a lot of bath bombs in subscription boxes, so I can't say that I was wowed by this purple pyramid. I do like the fact that, unlike many bath bombs, this one comes with a crystal embedded inside!
After the light purple fizz dissipates, a one-inch-long deep-purple bean-shaped amethyst emerges in the water. The bath bomb itself has a very gentle lavender aroma thanks to lavender essential oils—it's not too overwhelming and even a slight bit sweet.
Sacred Elephant Cinnamon Spice Incense, Set of 10 - Retail Value $4.70 ($3.50 GBP)
There's really nothing overtly holiday-ish in this box, despite its holiday-season timing, but these incense sticks come close. I associate incense with patchouli and other... how can I say this... groovier scents, but these sticks really do smell like a home filled with holiday party treats. The red color adds to the celebratory vibe, too.
The Verdict: I really enjoyed this month's MoonBox! The stars of the box are always the MoonBox-exclusive teas, oil blends, and crystals, in my opinion. The crystals this month, in particular, are each different from the crystals I already own in subtle, fascinating ways. And thanks to the bath bomb, I've got a bonus fourth crystal to enjoy! I like that this box gives me an excuse to stop, sit down, and ruminate on the "vibes" I'm getting/giving off in a given month. The moon cards and the information about each crystal inspire me to give specific areas of my life time and attention. (Ex: Am I giving myself enough time to rest and rejuvenate? What am I excited about for next year? What wants and needs am I ignoring that would nourish me, and how can I ask for what I need?). Whether you believe in the metaphysical stuff at work here or just need an excuse to slow down and be more mindful about your life, I definitely recommend this box!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. According to the site, you can still subscribe by December 15th to get the January box!
Coupon - Use code GAIAFAMILY to save 15% off your first monthly box or GAIAFAMILY3 to save 15% off your first box of a 3-month subscription!
Value Breakdown: The box itself cost me $31.50 after shipping. The two non-exclusive items cost about $11.70 altogether, which means the three crystals, oil, and tea must be worth $19.80, or $3.96 each.
