Elevita December 2017 Review

elevita december 2017 black and white patterned pouch closed

Once again, everything arrived in this lovely cotton drawstring bag! Such a nice bonus!

This month I did not receive a letter in my package.

Wooden Star Ornament, Philippines

I absolutely love handcrafted Christmas ornaments, and this little star is just beautiful! Look how nice it looks on my tree! This was made by a wood carver in the Philippines who uses his craft to support a family of twelve!

Pearl Stud Earrings - Retail Value $30

Nothing says simple elegance like a pair of pearl studs! These are so pretty and well made. They are from an organization called Imperfect Naturally that helps jewelry artisans in distressed areas such as Cambodia and the Navajo Nation to sustainably support themselves with their craft.

Necklace, Philippines

What a pretty necklace! So festive! We have seen pieces from this artisan before in Elevita boxes, and they are always lovely. This was handmade in the Philippines by a single mother artisan.

The Verdict: Elevita is awesome! I really appreciate everything they do to help global artisans, and I love feeling like I'm a part of that. This month's items were all great! I especially love the star ornament. I can't often find values for the items Elevita sends, but I always feel like the value far outstrips the cost of the box. This month the value was at least partially proven as I was able to confirm the retail value for the earrings is $30, which matches the cost of the box on just one item!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the January box.

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $30 with free shipping, which means that each of the 3 items in the box has an average cost of $10.

Anyone want to swap the drawstring bag? I have a thing for bags.

It’s just my opinion but that’s not worth $30.

i don’t think this is the kind of box you subscribe to if you’re looking for a great value – supporting the artisans who create pieces for this box and supporting a volunteer organization is probably more the reward here.

Thank you Jenny, that’s really a large part of it. Also, pictures don’t really do justice to how nice the necklace is. It’s a single long strand that you can double up, and my mom loved it. It doesn’t appear cheap at all. And the earrings are a nice size, not tiny. The things they send every month are always gorgeous, and there’s not any overhead here like Globein, it’s a volunteer run enterprise so no salaries or anything. This will be the subscription that I hold onto as long as I”m able. Also, I ended up with christmas presents for about 10 people from the boxes throughout the year.
