Octopus Activity Sheet Octopus Activity Sheet

Panda Pals introduces a 'pal' each month - September features Ray the Octopus! This month's "socktivity" includes a connect the dots activity and some counting activities with the number 8.

Sock Panda Dice Game Sock Panda Info Dice Dice

Sock Panda always includes some other kind of small toy, and this month was a pair of dice. I have to admit, I was pretty underwhelmed by this at first and was confused about why there were dice in this box!

The card encourages kids to play a simple math game by rolling the dice and then doing addition, subtraction, and multiplication using whichever numbers they get. This actually seems like a pretty clever way to practice math skills with kids, so I'm coming around to it.

Octopus Socks

Here is Ray the Octopus in sock form! His tentacles have the Sock Panda signature 3D bit, too.

We have a few pairs of these socks and they do hold up really well over time, and have a ton of detail! Check out the full illustration:Octopus Socks

Very cute and I love that you can see even the little suckers on his arms!

The second pair of socks mimics octopus arms and also features the number 8.

These are cool and vaguely 70s inspired; I love the coral and teal color palette.

Abstract Socks

Lately, it seems like we get one pair of socks featuring an animal, and one that is a bit more pattern based and less funky. I like that balance overall.

Verdict: Panda Pals is a cool gift idea for younger kids when you really don't know what to get them! I always enjoy seeing the new animal-themed socks, even though my son is too young for the activities at the moment. Kids love to get mail, and the activities help make this a subscription more interactive than other sock boxes, especially if you have a kid who loves coloring books and similar projects.

Value wise, the socks break down to about $7.50 each, which is pretty average for design-y kids' socks (and a similar price point to other kids' sock subscriptions). Plus, you're helping to donate socks to people in need, and you get some fun activities to help round out the whole package.
