The GlobeIn Artisan Box is a monthly subscription that sends you original crafts by global artisans. Each box contains handcrafted items from around the world and the stories of the artists who made the pieces.

There are two levels of subscription: Essential and Premium. The Essential subscription comes with one handpicked artisan item each month, and the Premium comes with a full curated collection. Each month (with the Premium subscription) you have a choice of two new themes, as well as any theme from the previous month that may not have sold out. They also have a shopping club they call the Starter in which you can choose one of three levels of monthly membership, which is applied as a credit to shop in their online store at a discounted rate.

One of my favorite things about GlobeIn is the booklet of information they provide with each box. They really take care to tell the story of the people and companies behind the items they feature.

two mugs with blue flowers two mugs with blue flowers two mugs with blue flowers

Pair Of Mugs, 4″ x 3″ - Retail Value $15.00 each ($30.00 total)

The style of these mugs is a little more traditional than what I'd typically reach for, but in that way, they feel comforting and familiar—almost like the kinds of handpainted, floral ceramic mugs you'd find in a grandmother's kitchen cabinet. They're delightfully sturdy without being heavy, and I love the deep hue of the sapphire blue paint.

blue eyemask blue eyemask back of eyemask

Eye Mask - Retail Value $20.00

There are a couple different styles of this eye mask, so don't be surprised if the one in your box looks different than mine. Personally, I love this minimalist hand-printed blue and white pattern that I got! It seems like it's made of natural fibers (probably cotton) with a tight, slightly sturdier weave (like you'd find in a canvas tote bag). I don't use eye masks day to day, but I find them invaluable on trips (especially on planes, when I need all the help I can get to zone out). This eye mask is free of the bells and whistles a lot of eye masks have nowadays (like cooling beads, fuzzy fabric, or a plush feel), but it's comfortable, simple, and gets the job done!

eyemask tag

And the fact that it benefits Malaysian artisans makes me prefer it to more commercial alternatives!

white hat with pompom white hat with pompom white hat tag

Hand-Crocheted Beanie, One Size - Retail Value $28.00, Listed Value $30.00

This is another item that comes in a few different colors. I'm very happy with the versatile snow-white version I got. This pom-pom-topped hat is blissfully soft. I'm talking dreamy, baby-blanket soft. I wish I had an adult onesie made out of this snuggly stuff!

I'll go out on a limb and say I have a pretty average, medium-sized head, and I found this hat to fit perfectly comfortably. I gave the band a tug, and it seems like there are a few inches of room left in it for folks who need a bit more space. The hat does fit flush with my head, rather than flopping over like some longer beanies do. But again, the fabric has some give to it, so it should be okay for larger heads, too. We just experienced our first below-freezing day of the season in my neck of the woods, so the arrival of this comfy, warm cap is perfectly timed. I'm literally sitting in my office right now with it on and don't want to take it off, not because I'm cold, but because it's so darn comforting to wear!

I did notice that the tag on this hat said the MSRP was $28.00, whereas the price GlobeIn gave was $30.00. When values vary that little, I figure the company is just covering for shipping expenses. But in the name of full transparency, I figured I'd note the difference!

globe in snug box information booklet chocolate bar

Organic Dark Chocolate Caramel Crunch With Sea Salt, 3.5 oz. - Retail Value $3.75

Anytime I get chocolate in a box, it is good day. A GREAT day, in fact. This fair-trade chocolate did suffer some of that weird oxidation problem that happens to chocolate (where it gets that pale, chalky look to it), but it didn't impact the taste too much. To be honest, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to chocolate—I love a plain, boring, milk chocolate bar—so this Dark Chocolate Caramel Crunch with Sea Salt bar is a bit out of my usual routine. That said, it was pretty awesome. It isn't caramel-filled—the caramel is worked into the chocolate so that the dark chocolate's bitterness is countered by a toasty sweetness. The sea salt added a fun bit of crunch to each bite, and the chocolate itself was surprisingly light. Still rich, but lighter and less filling than I expected. I am well on my way to having eaten all of this big bar, and I've only had it a couple days. I keep it in my desk and nab a square whenever my sweet tooth tingles...

Verdict: GlobeIn Artisan Box's "Snug" box was right up my alley. And not just because I always tend to run cold... The items inside were heartwarming and comforting, if not literally warm, like the knit cap (which is still on my head as I write this, by the way...). As usual, the quality is lovely—the only flaw I noticed was with the chocolate, and the impact on the taste was minimal if anything. And the fact that all of these products are made by amazing artisans makes this box a feel-good pick!

Value Breakdown: This box cost a total of $50.00 (price + $10.00 shipping, though if this is your first box, shipping will be free), but I received $83.75 worth of product (going by GlobeIn's values). That means, proportionally, I spent the following on each item:

  • Set of Two Mugs - $17.91
  • Eyemask - $11.94
  • Beanie - $17.91
  • Chocolate Bar - $2.24

Do you love the "Snug" GlobeIn Artisan Box as much as do?

I received this box and was really impressed. I loved having items that are not mass produced. The hat was really soft (I received the white one).

Hi all,

Liza here from GlobeIn.

Please rest assured that the chocolate in the Snug Box is from a newly ordered batch. I checked and it’s expiration date is 2/14/18. I also got our fulfilment team to take photos of the new chocolate and it doesn’t look oxidized. Sorry about that, Anne!

I’m impressed they sent two mugs instead of the usual lone mug.

I think they’ve sent that hat before, too… I was thinking something looked really off about that chocolate. :O Gross.

They sent a similar beanie last winter in the previous “Benefit box” but it did not have a pom pom. And although it may not look the best, there is absolutely nothing “dangerous” about eating oxidized chocolate. It happens from moisture due to temperature changes — warm to cold and/or cold to warm. As this is a fair trade chocolate I’m sure it has been transported alot and through varying climates. I’m a chocoholic and eat it all the time and it tastes fine — chocolate never goes to waste! I’m still alive. LOL.

I think this chocolate is old. They sent same chocolate about 9-10 months ago.

I was thinking the same except I think it was early 2016.
