The bag included a list of items in the bag.
A note on prices: Items like this can come from a variety of different suppliers at many price points, depending on how many you buy, etc. I couldn’t find a lot of these exact beads from common sources (e.g., Fire Mountain Gems), and it’s of questionable value to pick something similar, because a slight difference in grading or size or material could mean you are looking at half or double the price (or an even greater difference). Even different colors of the same size and shape of glass beads are priced differently due to materials needed to make the colors!
3 mm Czech Firepolished Beads in (from top to bottom): Matte Copper, Navy Nebulous Luster, Crystal Mardi Gras, and Matte Copper Brass Mix
These colors are great for me. Copper is a big part of what I work with these days, I’m lately purchasing a lot of navy beads, the Mardi Gras finish goes with some of the “backlit” shaped beads I’ve been buying lately, and I was beyond excited to see a color of 3mm beads that was exactly the same as a color of 4mm beads from this month.
4 mm Czech Firepolished Beads in (from top to bottom): Royal Purple Metallic, Satin Taupe, Crystal Electric Yellow and Green, and Matte Copper Brass Mix
I was pretty excited by these, too. The royal purple and crystal electric beads also match with the aforementioned backlit beads (and some of the “crystal magic” shaped beads as well). The satin taupe works as a matte silver accent, and of course, the matte copper brass mix matches the 3mm beads.
Here is a bracelet I made with the 3mm and 4mm beads that had matching colors. I ran out of the 3mm beads and had to improvise on the ends, but I think it turned out all right. This is a slight modification of Deb Roberti’s Ophelia pattern, which you can purchase here.
Verdict: I did not calculate a value for the November 2017 Dollar Bead Bag, for reasons explained above. This is one of those subscriptions where you know in advance what you are going to get each month (only the color is a surprise). It works out to $1 per strand, and I think that is reasonable. These strands are a little shorter than what you’d get at Fire Mountain Gems, for example, but the prices are also lower. This is a good subscription if you are looking to build your stash.
Please note that no directions are given and you have to supply your own needles, stringing materials, tools, and findings.
