My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark suitcase; the details in its design are just top notch! I am fond of the incredibly personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.

Enclosed with the selections my stylist, Stefania, chose for me was this crisp envelope; it included a sweet note from my stylist with suggestions for styling, an invoice for everything in the box, a shipping label, and tape to use to reseal my box for returned items.

Jordyn Woods Zip Neck Tunic by Addition Elle Love and Legend, Size 3x - Cost to Keep: $78

This dress has an athletic/military aesthetic. It conjures up images  in my mind of the Destiny Child video for “Survivor.” I appreciate that aspect, but this is not necessarily my style. I think I would really like this mini dress if the weird sleeve ruffles weren’t on it. I am really not getting this random/excessive ruffles trend I keep seeing. The ruffles I like best are the potato chip variety! I do like the color and the stretchy fabric of this dress, though. It could pair well with the vans that Stefania suggested or a pair of heels. With that being said, it still remains one of my least favorite items in this month’s box.

Signature Bomber Jacket by Rebel Wilson X Angels, Size 2x — Cost to Keep: $109

In our last set of communications, I requested that Stefania send me some of Rebel Wilson’s new line. I have been interested to try some of her pieces since I saw her runway show at Curvy Con last month. Stefania fulfilled my request and sent me this pastel signature bomber jacket from the line. I like the fit of this bomber jacket more than the ones she sent me in last month’s review. It isn’t too long and the sleeves aren’t baggy; the fit is just right. I also like the zipper pockets because they are not only functional but are a cool looking detail! My photographer (aka my cousin) and my mom both remarked on how I looked like a Pink Lady in this jacket. I am very okay with that comparison. This jacket is a cute statement piece, but it is not a versatile item that I would wear day in and out. The cost of $109 too is steep for a jacket I will not wear on a regular basis. I have to pass on this one.

Nordstrom Trunk Club October 2017 - Black Dress

Nordstrom Trunk Club October 2017 - Black Dress

Black Pleat Jersey dress by EVANS, Size 20W — Cost to Keep: $59

This stretchy, slinky jersey dress is so incredibly comfortable! I really love the button detail on the empire bodice and how the bottom of the dress tapers in slightly. This is a very classic style and this could be worn at the office with a long duster sweater jacket or dressed up with heels and leopard blazer to up the sass. Honestly, a dress like this can be paired with a variety of jackets, tights, and shoes to make several unique outfits. The versatility of this piece makes that $59 price tag very reasonable. Did I also happen to mention … IT HAS POCKETS?!?!

Belted Print Jacket by Michel Studio, Size 22W — Cost to Keep: $118

Stefania knows I am a bit of a sucker for leopard print. You name an item and I probably have it in animal print. I was just high fiving my cousin’s six-year-old daughter this evening because she agreed that leopard print is everything (you must teach them these life lessons young). So, needless to say, I was pleased to see this piece in Stefania’s selections for me. I rarely wear blazer style jackets because I feel like my broad shoulders are amplified and I resemble a linebacker in them. This time around I was glad to be proven wrong. What makes this jacket look so incredible is the sash that ties in the middle. This detail defines the waist fantastically. It also is made from polyester and elastane which gives this jacket a stretch that hugs the body perfectly. I paired this jacket with a necklace from my last Jewelry Subscription box review, my favorite Bad Sandy heels, black bodysuit from my last Stitch Fix review, and fitted City Chic jeans that were also apart of Stefania’s selections for this month. I feel like a corporate Peg Bundy in this get-up and I am digging it!

Nordstrom Trunk Club October 2017

Skylar Coated Corset Super Stretch Skinny Jeans by City Chic, Size 24 — Cost to Keep: $89

Speaking of living my best life as a chubby Peg Bundy, aren’t these pants everything? I am so smitten with them that I put these in the keep pile. These pants remind me of ones I had in the late 90s in high school. There was this whole plastic coated pants trend back then. The coating used to rub or wash off after a while, so let’s hope the plastic coated pants technology has made advancements in the last twenty years! I love the stretch and cut of these pants; the high waist is incredibly flattering too. These pants get two thumbs up, way up! I can see pairing them with a vintage novelty or band shirt or a button-down denim top tied at the midsection and with some cute booties or heels.

Nordstrom Trunk Club October 2017 - Vans Shoes

Nordstrom Trunk Club October 2017 - Vans Shoes

Classic Sneaker by VANS, Size 9.5 - Cost to Keep: $59.95

VANS sneakers are as timeless as Chuck Taylors by Converse. I used to have the iconic Jeff Spicoli checkerboard slip-ons for years! This pair feels like the grown-up adult version of the iconic slip-ons due to the perforated black leather. These shoes are comfortable and fit great, in part due to the rubber sole and the cushion-y insole. I also am glad they come in a 9.5; I feel like the size gets overlooked a lot by shoe companies and hat is the size that typically fits my Barney Rubble feet best. I rarely wear sneakers outside of the gym, though, so I will have to pass on this pair.

Verdict: This trunk had a few wins and an EH or two. My favorites were the blue leopard jacket and skinny wet-look pants. I also liked the Rebel Wilson jacket and black dress, but neither enough to want to keep. The khaki mini dress and VANS sneakers just weren’t my style, so they were a hard pass. I really like being able to communicate freely and directly with my stylist, Stefania. We usually have a quick recap and I let her know which pieces I liked and disliked. The app makes these communications rather effortless. The $25 styling cost is fair when you think of the time you save with this service. Instead of having to go to the mall and sift through racks of clothes, Trunk Club brings their high-end brands directly to you. The price points can be steep, but you are guaranteed high-quality Nordstrom brands in every box!

Tonya B, thank you so much! You definitely should try it! The app is really useful and the stylists are very receptive to working with you. Pinterest is your friend for these subscription boxes! I share mine with all my stylists to give them an idea of what I am into style wise.

Listen to everyone–you look GREAT in that FABULOUS bomber jacket and black dress. The jacket and pants and great, too. It looks like you’ve lost weight since you’ve started reviewing. Your stylists are picking some really nice things, and what’s important is that YOU choose what will look great on you. Before I lost a lot of weight, I learned that what looks great on a thin model is not going to translate the same on a plus-size. You have a great eye and you work well with your stylists. Just look at all of the compliments you get every month! YOU make the clothes look good, not the other way around! You go, gurl!

Nicole Rieder

h, thank you so much! I have lost a bit of weight over the last couple months— and these subscription boxes definitely come handy in those circumstances! It is nice to try on different sizes and see what fits and also get a taste of the trends. Like you said though, you never let the trends wear you. Make sure it always fits you and your personality. Clothing is meant to enhance and allow you to express yourself. I think that is why I have so much fun with clothes and styling pieces! Thanks again for your comment and checking out my reviews— it really means so much to me!

“The ruffles I like best are the potato chip variety!” I died so hard at that.

I am definitely loving those pants for the exact same “I had some in high school in the late 90’s” reason too that I had to throw out due to the finish chipping off. PLEASE wear them again in a later review to let us know if they have made advancements in plastic pants technology for people without a thigh gap. (Holy crap has it really been 20 years since high school when I last had a pair…)

Love the Halloween nails.

TheOtherAmy,

Girl, you know as soon as I wrote that line I was thinking, “Man, I could go for some Baked Cheddar Sour Cream Ruffles like RIGHT NOW!” hahahaha.

I will definitely bring those pants back into another review to give you the 411. It has been seventeen years for me since high school (Millenium Y2K Graduate up in here), but it feels like much longer! Time flew by though, I tell you that! hahaha

And thank you! I almost got ghosts instead, but the jack o’lantern was calling me!

Thanks for checking out my review! 🙂

Alex

Love the leopard print and your Peg Bundy bottoms. Haha
You look great in pink. That jacket is pricey, but the color is really nice on you.

Thanks for the review. As soon as I start working this is the clothes sub I’m starting with.

Thanks so much, Alex! I love, love, loved that blazer so much! And the Rebel Wilson line jacket was so stinking cute!

And you are welcome! Thank you for checking out my reviews! I really appreciate it!

The Evans dress is so good on you! On its own it’s definitely too tame for your aesthetic, but it’s the perfect blank canvas for your incredible accessorizing abilities. Keeeeeep it!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Awe! Thank you, AmyM! I was tempted, but those pants won me over and I just couldn’t stand the idea of sending them back to Nordstrom.

JessicaG

You MUST keep that Evans dress! You look fantastic in it! I went right to the website to buy it myself but it’s sold out already 🙁 and it’s a new release!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

And I am sorry you didn’t end up getting it! That flew off their site at warp speed!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

JessicaG, the price was right on that! Had I kept it, it would have been $39. But I wanted the pants a wee bit more tbh.

Reply ButtonReply

Ks

I like everything you received! The black dress and pants look so flattering. And such versatile investment pieces.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Ks! This was a great box, for sure! I did keep the pants. They were too great to pass up!

Vanessa

Wow, I really like the black Evans dress on you! It has a definite 90’s vibe (which I love) and definitely does look like it would be very versatile. I think you should move it to the keep pile! The button neckline is beautiful. And I keep picturing some kind of rock n roll type belt. Really I think any snazzy belt would be great with that dress. Those pants are really great too! I am new to your posts, but am loving your reviews. It really is nice to see some sub boxes coming out with plus sizes and to see more posts like yours proving you don’t have to be size 2 to be truly beautiful know how to rock some clothes! I love it! It’s so encouraging! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Yes! That dress is super versatile. It would look great in so many ways! I could see it pairing with a thick belt and contrasting colored tights. It would look great with booties, flats, or strappy heels. You are totally right on all of it Vanessa!

And thank you so much for your kind words. Visibility is key! The average women’s clothing size in this country is a 16 AND FINALLY designers and companies are recognizing that plus size women like dressing up as much as our thinner counterparts do. They are slowly realizing that we want to give them our money and that we are a profitable market. IT IS ABOUT DANG TIME! The more that us bodacious babes strut our stuff with pride, the more we normalize this goofy notion that big is not beautiful. We should be proud and realize how beautiful we are! 🙂

Thanks again, Vanessa! It means a lot to me that you follow my reviews!

I NEEEEEED that Evans dress… but it is sold out. It’s so cute on you!

Thank you, Kendra! I am sorry you couldn’t get the dress!

Wow, they really knocked it out of the park for you this month. That rebel jacket is 100% you.
I have those vans and they are so freaking comfortable.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Zo! The jacket was very cute for sure. Just a bit too steep for me.

Sara

I love the belted jacket, love the print! And my first thought when I saw the pink jacket was also that you looked like a Pink Lady! lol. The City Chic pants are very nice too, go very well with the belted jacket.

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Sara! I was so pumped the pants were in my price range. I was bummed to have to send the jacket back, but it was too rich for my blood. The style was gorgeous though!
