My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark suitcase; the details in its design are just top notch! I am fond of the incredibly personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
Enclosed with the selections my stylist, Stefania, chose for me was this crisp envelope; it included a sweet note from my stylist with suggestions for styling, an invoice for everything in the box, a shipping label, and tape to use to reseal my box for returned items.
Jordyn Woods Zip Neck Tunic by Addition Elle Love and Legend, Size 3x - Cost to Keep: $78
This dress has an athletic/military aesthetic. It conjures up images in my mind of the Destiny Child video for “Survivor.” I appreciate that aspect, but this is not necessarily my style. I think I would really like this mini dress if the weird sleeve ruffles weren’t on it. I am really not getting this random/excessive ruffles trend I keep seeing. The ruffles I like best are the potato chip variety! I do like the color and the stretchy fabric of this dress, though. It could pair well with the vans that Stefania suggested or a pair of heels. With that being said, it still remains one of my least favorite items in this month’s box.
Signature Bomber Jacket by Rebel Wilson X Angels, Size 2x — Cost to Keep: $109
In our last set of communications, I requested that Stefania send me some of Rebel Wilson’s new line. I have been interested to try some of her pieces since I saw her runway show at Curvy Con last month. Stefania fulfilled my request and sent me this pastel signature bomber jacket from the line. I like the fit of this bomber jacket more than the ones she sent me in last month’s review. It isn’t too long and the sleeves aren’t baggy; the fit is just right. I also like the zipper pockets because they are not only functional but are a cool looking detail! My photographer (aka my cousin) and my mom both remarked on how I looked like a Pink Lady in this jacket. I am very okay with that comparison. This jacket is a cute statement piece, but it is not a versatile item that I would wear day in and out. The cost of $109 too is steep for a jacket I will not wear on a regular basis. I have to pass on this one.
Black Pleat Jersey dress by EVANS, Size 20W — Cost to Keep: $59
This stretchy, slinky jersey dress is so incredibly comfortable! I really love the button detail on the empire bodice and how the bottom of the dress tapers in slightly. This is a very classic style and this could be worn at the office with a long duster sweater jacket or dressed up with heels and leopard blazer to up the sass. Honestly, a dress like this can be paired with a variety of jackets, tights, and shoes to make several unique outfits. The versatility of this piece makes that $59 price tag very reasonable. Did I also happen to mention … IT HAS POCKETS?!?!
Belted Print Jacket by Michel Studio, Size 22W — Cost to Keep: $118
Stefania knows I am a bit of a sucker for leopard print. You name an item and I probably have it in animal print. I was just high fiving my cousin’s six-year-old daughter this evening because she agreed that leopard print is everything (you must teach them these life lessons young). So, needless to say, I was pleased to see this piece in Stefania’s selections for me. I rarely wear blazer style jackets because I feel like my broad shoulders are amplified and I resemble a linebacker in them. This time around I was glad to be proven wrong. What makes this jacket look so incredible is the sash that ties in the middle. This detail defines the waist fantastically. It also is made from polyester and elastane which gives this jacket a stretch that hugs the body perfectly. I paired this jacket with a necklace from my last Jewelry Subscription box review, my favorite Bad Sandy heels, black bodysuit from my last Stitch Fix review, and fitted City Chic jeans that were also apart of Stefania’s selections for this month. I feel like a corporate Peg Bundy in this get-up and I am digging it!
Skylar Coated Corset Super Stretch Skinny Jeans by City Chic, Size 24 — Cost to Keep: $89
Speaking of living my best life as a chubby Peg Bundy, aren’t these pants everything? I am so smitten with them that I put these in the keep pile. These pants remind me of ones I had in the late 90s in high school. There was this whole plastic coated pants trend back then. The coating used to rub or wash off after a while, so let’s hope the plastic coated pants technology has made advancements in the last twenty years! I love the stretch and cut of these pants; the high waist is incredibly flattering too. These pants get two thumbs up, way up! I can see pairing them with a vintage novelty or band shirt or a button-down denim top tied at the midsection and with some cute booties or heels.
Classic Sneaker by VANS, Size 9.5 - Cost to Keep: $59.95
VANS sneakers are as timeless as Chuck Taylors by Converse. I used to have the iconic Jeff Spicoli checkerboard slip-ons for years! This pair feels like the grown-up adult version of the iconic slip-ons due to the perforated black leather. These shoes are comfortable and fit great, in part due to the rubber sole and the cushion-y insole. I also am glad they come in a 9.5; I feel like the size gets overlooked a lot by shoe companies and hat is the size that typically fits my Barney Rubble feet best. I rarely wear sneakers outside of the gym, though, so I will have to pass on this pair.
Verdict: This trunk had a few wins and an EH or two. My favorites were the blue leopard jacket and skinny wet-look pants. I also liked the Rebel Wilson jacket and black dress, but neither enough to want to keep. The khaki mini dress and VANS sneakers just weren’t my style, so they were a hard pass. I really like being able to communicate freely and directly with my stylist, Stefania. We usually have a quick recap and I let her know which pieces I liked and disliked. The app makes these communications rather effortless. The $25 styling cost is fair when you think of the time you save with this service. Instead of having to go to the mall and sift through racks of clothes, Trunk Club brings their high-end brands directly to you. The price points can be steep, but you are guaranteed high-quality Nordstrom brands in every box!
