BuddhiBox Essential Oils October 2017

Each month's BuddhiBox includes a card with an inspiring mantra on the front and info about the contents of the box on the back. Last month, I read over the info card first and explored the contents of my box in the order that they're listed, but this month I decided just to dig right in as I pondered the love-themed mantra!

Frisky Fish Essentials VIBE Essential Oil Blend - Value $14 (info card lists value as $16)

This roll-on essential oil is a blend of geranium and orange oils. I found the citrus scent to be most present in this oil's aroma, but the floral notes do add texture to its essence. To me, orange oil is very refreshing; I like that it's sweet, steady, and familiar. This VIBE oil is lovely, and white its plastic roller ball isn't as smooth as a metal ball might be, it still went on my wrist nicely and thickly.

Rose Quartz Healing Stone - Listed Value $10

Ah, rose quartz, a classic! I have a decent amount of raw rose quartz lying on various surfaces of my house and worked into pieces of jewelry—the stone's healing properties, love energy, and pleasant color makes it a great gift. I plan to add this polished piece to my fireplace, which I've filled with candles and other stones.

Theramu Pro To Go Relieve Hemp Extract Oil — Listed Value $4 (Buy a 1 oz. jar for $69.95)

Theramu Relieve is a topical oil that's meant to soothe aches and discomfort. It's made in small batches, which to me always represents high quality! For those of you who aren't knowledgeable about hemp extract, it's oil extracted from the stems and seeds of hemp plants. Hemp plants produce two active chemical ingredients: THC, which is psychoactive, and CBD, which is not. CBD is legal in all 50 states of the US and is becoming more commonly used in topical solutions for its healing properties.

Note that this particular version of hemp extract is blended with emu oil, so it's not vegan like some others are.

I suffer from headaches and migraines, and in the past, I've rubbed a CBD balm on my temples to help soothe headaches. The oil in this sampler duo is, of course, more runny than a balm, plus, once you open the sampler package, you kind of have to use it all. I decided to crack one of these open the next morning after a long run and rub it on the sore backs of my legs. The smell is extremely pleasant—it's a distinct CBD scent, which I find to be natural and subtle and a little like eucalyptus. This oil rubbed on my legs smoothly and felt really nice. While I can't see myself buying a bigger jar ($70 seems extremely steep for 1 oz.), I definitely hope I run into samples of Theramu Relieve again!

The Dreaming Yogi Meditation - Listed Value $10

The guided meditation included in this month's box was very needed. I've been really stretched thin at work and haven't taken the time to sit down, relax, and meditate, so this gave me a good excuse to quiet my mind and focus inward. After the meditation, I had similar thoughts to last month: it was a nice experience overall, but Meli stumbled over her words a few times, which disrupted my peaceful flow. While the blips were generally harmless (she is human, after all!) I guess I wondered why she didn't just re-record it before posting. I think what these thoughts mean is that I have some work to do in my meditation practice, a mainstay of meditation is to let these interruptions and irritations roll right by.

Circuelle Foundation Breast Ritual Creme — Listed Value $3

This was surprising to find in my box! But, it's really cool. Health and wellness are obviously a large part of overall wellbeing, and I don't believe women spend enough time checking in on their bodies with a mind of loving, learning, and growing. The Circuelle Foundation supports breast health, and they carry products to help spread awareness. I didn't see this cream on their website, but I imagine they at one time did or will in the future.

The inside of the card teaches (or reminds) women of how self-breast exams should be done. Just this past year, I started giving myself regular breast exams after a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I usually do them just laying comfortably on my bed. This pamphlet recommends doing it using this lotion while in the bath or shower.

At first, I thought using fancy lotion for something I do regularly seemed superfluous, but then I changed my mind once I squeezed some of it onto my fingertips! First of all, it smells lovely and has this pretty pearly sheen to it, but also it provides a very smooth feeling on your skin. When I turned the faucet on to rinse the lotion off my fingers, it created a slippery effect on my skin before washing off. I thought that was really cool and began to understand how this product might be helpful and useful for breast exams! It makes it feel more like an act of self-love than a chore or something medical.

Verdict: I'm really happy with the items in this month's BuddhiBox Essential Oils box! I very much enjoyed the essential oil's scent, it's impossible to go wrong with rose quartz, and I had a great time exploring the two new-to-me product samples. The meditation wasn't my favorite, but I still feel I benefitted from the time spent in calm respite, so I believe it holds worth. Similar to last month, the offerings in this box added up to $41, which makes this $15.95 box (US shipping included) a wonderful value. The experience of unboxing and reveling in these natural products successfully pulled me out of my busy mind and grounded me, which is such an appreciated gift given to me by BuddhiBox.

I agree with the first comment, really great (and through) review!

To me, everything except the The Dreaming Yogi Meditation (CD?) seems really great. It is a shame that they didn’t do better with the editing process. Also, it may be a small thing, but I don’t care for the second line of the “mantra”. There are many beautiful facets to life, including love.

I might sign up for this box if they had a bi-monthly option, as I wouldn’t use up an entire rollerball of oil in a months time. Are they flexible with allowing one to pause their account for a month or longer?

Thank you for reading and for your kind comment, CJ!

The Dreaming Yogi Meditation comes digitally. The included card provides a link that you follow. You have to enter & confirm your email address, then you’re emailed a YouTube video of the meditation—the video is just a static image with an audio recording. It’s not my favorite part of the BuddhiBox, but it’s nice to explore; as a writer, sometimes I like hearing what sort of language is used in guided meditations. 🙂

I also really appreciate your perspective on the mantra! Hear, hear.

Finally, I just took a quick peek at the BuddhiBox FAQ, which says you can pause your subscription for up to 3 months by emailing [email protected]. Hope that helps you make your decision on whether you’d like to sign up for this box!

Thank you so much for answering my question about possibly pausing this sub. I will most definitely look into subscribing, after the holidays, if not sooner.

Sara

After reading this review, my first thought was what a wonderful job you did, Christen. I have been interested in getting an aromatherapy/meditative sub box, and found this review to be so helpful. Very thorough and multi-faceted information is not easy to provide in such a limited availability of review length. This is an assignment well done!
