Aurelia by Anne Osterlund - Value $6.42 on Amazon (retail price $8.99)
I love historical romance novels, they can sweep you back to a time that seems so unfamiliar yet the story is easy to relate to. The cover of this book got my attention right away, the fashion of this era always takes my breath away, and I think it might mean I should have been a princess in a past life?! However, as much as I love romance, I also love a good mystery. I was extremely excited to see that this book offers both! I have been looking for a light read that I can get taken away in, and this one is already turning out to be an incredible read. From Amazon:
An impressive debut, equal parts commercial appeal and literary prowess.
Princess Aurelia is next in line to rule the kingdom of Tyralt, but she would rather be one of the common folk, free to learn and roam and . . . not marry the next tyrannical prince that comes courting. Naturally, the king wants Aurelia to marry for political power. Aurelia wants to marry for love. And someone in the kingdom wants her . . . dead. Assigned to investigate and protect Aurelia is Robert, the son of the king's former royal spy and one of Aurelia's oldest friends. As Aurelia and Robert slowly uncover clues as to who is threatening her, their friendship turns to romance. With everything possible on the line, her life, her kingdom, her heart, Aurelia is forced to take matters into her own hands, no matter the cost.
Bubbles & Books Soap: Petal Dance - Value $6.99? (price based on estimate)
This bar of soap is an exclusive from Bubbles & Books. It is handmade with all natural ingredients and smells incredible! Once I opened the box I could smell a delightful floral smell that I was hoping would be soap. This bar is made from dried flower petals and has a delicate rose smell mixed with lavender. Sometimes I find bars of soap to be drying, but this left my skin feeling hydrated with that lovely feminine smell from the petals.
Bubbles & Books Bath Bomb: Pumpkin Spice - Value $7.99? (Price based on estimate)
This bath bomb is another handmade exclusive from Bubbles & Books. To me, reading a novel and taking a soothing bath go hand in hand so I was very excited to receive this! Plus, the pumpkin spice scent is perfect for the season. The bath bomb had a very strong pumpkin smell but not in an artificial way. It smelled like a pumpkin pie was baking in the oven so it was very distant with a light sweetness. While I tend to enjoy a more soothing scent for a calming bath, I really love anything pumpkin spice so this was perfect for me to use now that the weather is cold!
Velvet Cat Pouch - Value $3.25
This velvet pouch is extremely feminine! It would make a wonderful makeup case or even as a clutch. The fluffy tail on the end of the zipper is just that extra added touch of cuteness. While I don't have a huge need for something like this, I am always looking for a fun makeup case to use for my bag daily so this is perfect!
Verdict: This was my first time receiving Bubbles & Books, and while I love receiving a new book each month, this box lacked a bit of that wow factor. The total cost of the box is $27 ($24 a month + $3 shipping) which would mean that all four items would need to have a value of $6.75. While some of the products are harder to find online since they are exclusive to Bubbles & Books, I think the overall value is a little far off from that monthly cost. I wish that there was a few more items or one bigger piece that represented the theme of the book that is featured for the month.
I do love receiving new books because I always have a hard time searching for one I might like, but Bubbles & Books allows me to get something every month. Plus, I love receiving items that are focused around relaxing and winding down with a great new book. Hopefully next month they can get the overall value up a bit higher, but all in all, I was happy with my first Bubbles & Books box!
