Let’s take a look at what’s inside!
This recipe card notes how to prepare a Boston Butt, which is made of pork. A few of the ingredients are in this month's Welcome Box, but you'll still need a few others like apple juice, sugar, and salt.
The Welcome Box also included this coupon code for 75% off your first box!
Gourmet Wood Chips, 8 oz. - Value $5.00?
I received a sample size of these wood chips and was unable to find this size on their site, so my value is an estimate.
I've never used wood chips before but I guess it's never too late to start! These wood chips are Pecan scented, and while they smell really nice, I don't get too much of the scent described; I assume the scent would come off more in the meat after being smoked. The chips are recommended to be soaked in water 30-45 minutes prior to use, then drained before placing on either charcoal or in your chip box for the perfect smoke. This is a little out of my comfort zone as I've never smoked meat before, but I look forward to testing these out!
Hog Sauce BBQ Sauce, 18 oz. - Value $7.00
This is the BBQ sauce that is recommended for the Boston Butt recipe and after tasting, I think I'd like the pork very much! The sauce isn't overly spicey, it has a more smokey taste, which I appreciate in BBQ recipes and is overall a really nice sauce for those sensitive to heat. I could see myself using this for a dipping sauce in the future, too, it's really delicious!
Jacks Old South Original Meat Rub, 12 oz. - Value $12.00
This is another ingredient needed for the pork recipe and the more I taste what's included in the box, I really look forward to making this dish! This meat rub is meant to coat all sides of your meat before smoking and from the recipe card, should be applied liberally. This smoky rub has some heat to it, which I personally appreciate, but isn't too spicy that everyone can't enjoy. I can see myself adding this to many different kinds of meats, which I will prepare many different ways - great product for me in this box!
Pork Barrel BBQ Uncured Bacon Jerky, 2 oz. - Value $5.17? (Buy a case of 12 for $62.00)
I'm a huge fan of jerky and I have to say, this is probably one of the best and most delicious I've ever had! The spicy siracha flavor packs just the right amount of heat and the strips of bacon just melt in your mouth. I've already ordered more of this in different flavors and can't wait to try them. If you're a fan of any type of jerky, I highly recommend trying this brand, you won't regret it!
Verdict: This was my first experience with the BBQ Box and I'm quite impressed with the Welcome Box they sent and how most of the items are meant to help create a delicious recipe. They did a great job sticking to a theme and all products in the box were of high value and had a truly delicious taste. The estimated value received in the Welcome Box was $29.17, which exceeds the $24.99 cost of the box, but not shipping, which is $8.02 to my address. I personally think this box is a great option if you're interested in vamping up your BBQ game like I am, or even a great gift for the BBQ lover in your life.
