The box comes with a packet of cards from the curator.
The theme this month, as mentioned by this letter from fitness guru Bianca Jade, is "Savor Summer and Stay Inspired".
On the rest of the cards, Bianca explains the products inside the box and why they earned a place inside this package.
There's a pack of information inside the box, too.
There are a couple of activewear coupons...
A card for a bag company featured in the box...
A "cellulite massage mat" coupon (I'll have to do some Googling about that product)...
And some information about True Lemon, which is a product that we'll talk about a little later.
MB Greene Be Clear Collection Tote Bag - Value $50.00
I love a novelty tote bag with a cute saying and a flopsy, multi-purpose feel, so I was a little underwhelmed when I first laid eyes on this clear plastic bag. But here's the thing—this bag is exactly the thing I don't have but always need this time of year. The stadiums and major concert venues in my town have all adopted a pretty strict clear bag policy. My friends and I have had to literally throw out so many random things on our way to a game or a show because they weren't stored in an approved bag. This tote (which measures in at12" x 12" x 6"), on the other hand, fits the bill perfectly. Plus, it seems to be a really sturdy quality bag. The plastic is thick, there's a zippered closure... heck, even the straps look classy (they're not real leather, but they're a good fake). It's practical, and as long as it doesn't become a dumping ground for receipts, bobby pins, and other oddities like most of my other tote bags are, it's kind of pretty, too.
Polk Boom Bit Wearable Bluetooth Speaker - Value $29.99
I'm a headphones gal, but there are just some situations where they just don't work that well. The big one for me is when I'm on my bike. I don't like the idea of blocking out the sound of traffic or other cyclists on a trail with headphones, but I also would love to tune into a podcast to pass the time. This speaker has a little clip on the back that I can pop on my shirt, my sleeve, or even the tubes wrapping around my handlebars. The color isn't totally my style, but it should make it easier to find, haha! Oh, and the end cap pops off to reveal a USB—pop it into your laptop or USB charger to bring the battery back to life.
Handbag Rescue, Sandal Rescue, and Sneaker Rescue Packets - Value $3.00
I've seen Handbag Rescue wipes before, but these sneaker ones have really piqued my interest! These individual wipes are safe to use on leather and even suede. Right now my sneakers are looking the messiest, since they were what I tracked around picnics and outdoor adventures all summer long. They're much brighter thanks to this snazzy little product. I think it's cool that the sandal one is specifically made for the footbed of the shoe, rather than the exterior. That's where my sandals need the most love, after all! If anything, I wish the handbag one was swapped with something for boots. Right now, my boots are sparkly and ready to rock, but once the cooler weather sets in, I bet they'll need some TLC soon. Of course, the handbag one is made to work with the same materials as my boots are made of, so maybe I'll give that a shot!
Joie Strawberry Slicer - Value $4.99
This is a handy little device! I will say that most of the times I enjoy strawberries, I'm throwing them in a blender for a smoothie or eating them straight up, rather than sliced. But maybe this easy peasy slicer will make me more eager to toss some strawberry slices into a salad. I like that it's bright red and looks like a strawberry, too!
Your Tea Tea Face Healing Hydration Scrub, 9.46 oz - Value $25.00
I love scrubs, but I've never seen one made with tea! The container looks like a stout little jam jar, and the concoction inside is basically the consistency of jam, too. Most importantly, I love how this makes my skin feel. It looks a little messy when you're rubbing it in since you're smushing tea into your skin (maybe don't wear a white shirt while you use it, in order to avoid stains) but it has a gentle grittiness about it that I love. The fragrance is very... plant-y, so be prepared for that. (It's earthier and more herby than I expected it would be.) But after using this in the shower, my face felt delightfully smooth and plump.
Humble Brush - Value $4.99
Bamboo toothbrushes are slowly emerging as the cool thing in subscription boxes. I've gotten a few of these bad boys in different wellness-oriented boxes. At first, I was a little skeptical, but it turns out that brushes like this one are just awesome. It's comfortable to hold because it's really lightweight, the bristles are BPA-free and long-lasting, the bamboo is biodegradable and treated with natural wax, and best of all, it looks darn cute sitting by my sink!
True Grapefruit, 32 Packets - Value $5.32
True Lemon, 12 Packets - Value $2.50 (Buy 6 boxes for $14.99 on Amazon)
According to the letter from Bianca Jade, these packets are a move to help motivate you to drink more water. I'm a big fan of lemon and grapefruit sparkling water, so I was into the idea of these zero-calorie, zero-sugar, not-artificially-sweetened packets. The idea is that you sprinkle a packet into your water to give it a zip of flavor. Personally, I like water as-is, so my worry is that I won't use these little packets all that frequently. But they do give a gentle citrus taste to a glass of water. I think I like the lemon better since the flavor is a little more gentle and refreshing to me.
GemTye Hair Ties - Value $20.00?
I couldn't find this exact pair online, but a similar set of two is currently selling for $20.00 on the GemTye site. $20.00 feels like a lot for two bejeweled hair tyes, but maybe it's a bit fairer when you think about them as bracelets, too. They definitely can pass as bracelets, though they make comfortable hair ties, too. (I just got to the point in growing out my pixie cut that I can do pigtails again! Hooray!)
Munk Pack's Oatmeal Fruit Squeeze, 4.2 oz - Value $2.16 (Buy a pack of 3 for $6.49 on Amazon)
Pouch-based snacks are a huge trend right now. I feel like I see these squeeze packs everywhere. Most of the time, they're meant for kids, but I like the idea of adults toting these easy snacks on a hike or to a workout. It's really pretty tasty, too. This one had a nice sweetness to it and the kick of cinnamon felt seasonal given the oncoming fall season. And look how healthy this little treat is! Lots of fiber, real fruit, non-GMO ingredients, a vegan recipe, no gluten... it's a great pick for a post-workout treat.
Verdict: This box has a value of about $148.00, which is pretty great for a $50 Quarterly box. There are lots of items in the box—the two biggest being the scrub and the see-through bag. While it didn't wow me, I do think the bag will be really useful, and the scrub was really lovely. I will say that this late-summer box really does feel like it's chasing the warm weather. Especially when, in August, stores are already starting to shift to fall styles and the chilly days are starting to creep in, strawberries and lemon water feel just slightly out of season. Still, I feel like I'll get use out of everything in the box! Fingers crossed we get some more warm days!
