August 2017 New Subscription Boxes – Which Should We Review?

We learn about a few new subscription boxes every day! At the end of each month, we pick a few that seem interesting, fun, and/or unique, and let you vote for which ones we review next.

(This list isn’t strictly boxes that just started in the last month, but boxes new to us, interesting boxes we’ve found, and boxes we want your feedback on!)

Before we get started on August’s boxes, below is a quick update on some of your favorites from last month’s post:

As always, thank you for being an MSA reader and telling us your thoughts! The August poll is at the bottom of the post. And if there are other boxes you’d like to see us review that aren’t listed here, please let us know in the comments!

  1. Not really interested in any on the list, but I would like to see Pause & Unwind reviewed. Thanks!

  2. More candles and wax and scent boxes please!

  3. I’d love to see Ekka Recovery and the Scout box.

I’m reluctantly going to the LOT website to see what the heck this is!! 😳

  4. The Zakka Kit please!!! I have been waiting for a sub like this!! 😀

  5. Two that I voted for I can’t wait to see but they do not fit into my budget. And of course, even before I read all the comments, I just had to see what was in the LOT box. Some of the boxes mentioned in the comments have been reviewed on other blogger sites and on YouTube. MSA is still the best but I love giveaways…..

  6. A brand new sub box called The Alluring Alchemist. It’s around $36, bimonthly and includes 4 dry ingredients for a facial mask (1 is a clay), a 1 oz facial oil, and a Botanical Facial Steam. Tons of info is included and they also have a blog for those who are more curious. On the blog, they offer alternative uses for all products and ways to reuse the glass containers that the items are sent in. There is more than enough of all ingredients to last until the next box. It’s AMAZING. They are on Instagram @thealluringalchemist.

  7. None of these for me, thanks. Still love to see what’s out there – it’s interesting!

  8. Anchor of Hope box please!

    • Thanks for this one. With the hurricane havoc I was looking for a box that would give back and this fits the bill – even if not specifically for that.

  9. It’s not on the list, but I would love to see the At Home With Nikki (NStyle Box) reviewed.

    • Me too. I would like to see Lvkiki as well… It’s a cheap cost that comes with, hats, scarfs, jewelry, bags, things like that they have a mini and a full… I got 2 boxes from them… Great price too and free shipping on the full too.

  10. Maybe it’s the Walking Dead fan in me, but Lot looks like a survivalist, minimalist with a bunker, type of sub.

It also looks like a sub that is prepping you for the apocalypse, zombie or nuclear.

And! It also looks like a creepy cult-like, conformist sub. (The Path, Leftovers)

That being said I’m intrigued. I would love to see it reviewed. Especially with the tattoo gun.

The video on the site is weird and the script that appears at the bottom of the web page (scripture aside)
I wish they wouldn’t bring the Bible/religion into it. Be offbeat and different without offending people maybe? (I’m not even religious but still, respect ppl)

    This scripture
    Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  11. I voted for the home decor box, but I’m most interested in looking into the 5 or so new-to-me subs some commenters recommended. Thanks ladies! My list of subs to potentially subscribe to in a few months keeps getting longer & longer. 😀

    My recommendations are:
    Beauty Pie
    Face Mask Alchemy
    Look Incredible

  12. After reading all the comments, curiousity got the best of me and I had to check out the Lot website. I know everyone has said it already, but it really has a creepy vibe to it. The pictures don’t show anyone’s face, and there is one picture that almost looks like the guy is trying to shoot himself in the head.

Also, from a business perspective, it’s a horrible website. The photos are really random and don’t actually show the item they have listed. No real descriptions of the box or the products you would be receiving. there were several other things missing from the website to make it seem like a legitimate business.

Was anyone else left with a vaguely creepy feeling after seeing the website? Just weird.

    • It strikes me as a hilariously self-indulgent nihilist-hipster sort of endeavor, whether or not it means to be. I keep thinking about tje one pirtly LOT enthusiast running around in nothing but a pair of black socks and an XXL black t because that is all they carry that will fit him.

      • Dammit, phone – portly, not portly. And the, not the. Grrr.

      • My phone is mocking me I swear!

(Distant sound of someone hanging her head in the table in frustration.)

      • Haha always with the autocorrect ruining my posts too.

I like your take on this box with the hipsters/nihilism.

  13. The LadyGang podcast does a quarterly box that I think a lot of people here might love. Their next box is sold out but it is definitely worth reviewing!

  14. I think I’m the only one who is seriously interested in The Scout box 🙁 then again I am obsessed with HGTV and home makeover shows 🙂

  15. Ko Skin Box! Would love to see a review on their boxes!

  16. LOT had me so intrigued (freaked) I immediately googled and a GQ article explains it in depth. Fascinating but not anything I see personally subbing. To each their own but I’m just not cool enough lol

  17. I voted for the Jerkist, but only if Marnie reviews it.

  18. Ekka Recovery sounds interesting if a bit pricey.

  19. Lot just looks mega creepy… all black, weird stances, tattoo machine, and the ID tag… I mean really why?
I have to ask, how did you find this one?!? Strangely…I want to see the review of the bigger package just to see what strange stuff comes. Mostly though I want to know what the target audience is, and what people who like it think.
Disposable clothes though…I have enough trouble building my wardrobe w/ out that lol!

    • It’s like an apocalyptic survivalist theme…I think. I’m also intrigued

  20. None of those seem interesting at all.

  21. I have to admit–I just want to see what a LOT box ends up looking like all the way and if the creepy factor increases LOL.

I like the idea of the Innocent Kit. I’d love to see what kind of things they send.

  22. I’d love to see a review of Bath Bevy, please!

  23. I actually been wanting to see inspire me monthly and seasonal Decor box review! Could you do both????

  24. Did anyone watch the Lot video?! Wtf
“Most beautiful death, ever.” -actual quote at the end of their video ad.

    • And the thing at the bottom of the page…mondo creepy!

  25. Most of these don’t seem remotely interesting. The Ekka recovery kit seems interesting, but the others…..meh.

  26. You should totally hire me to review horse pet boxes. All two of them lol! Not that I need an excuse for more horse stuff.

  27. Jerkist looks interesting

  28. I can’t vote for any of these. The Scout box sounded interesting, until I read could be as few as 2 items. For $100 (including shipping)? I don’t think so. I have more expensive subscriptions, but that seems very risky.

  29. Lot seems rather…cult like. You are going along fine in your disposable togs and then one day the free audio file is actually some sort of call to prepare for the arrival of the mother ship.

It is the first time I’ve seen a sub box that could eventually bring you a tattoo kit.

Home decor boxes don’t do it for me.

Modern Love…maybe. Probably not but admit I’m curious.

You are trying, I’ll give you that.

  30. Have you all looked at the “lot” site? That’s some strange stuff right there…Who is their target consumer? A cult? And a tattoo machine? Umm…weird, just weird. And kinda alarming actually…

    • I’m sorry, but that is creepy AF.

    • And identification bracelets? I’m so confused..

    • Forget reviewing the subscription box — give us a monthly interview series featuring a different subscriber each month. Who are these people?

And what does this (at bottom of their home page) even mean?

      • I have a different bot of text barf at the bottom of the LOT page, which makes me think it is auto generated. Mine includes the word Bellevue, which is a city near here. Is Frankfort near you, LynnDearie?

What is cracking me up about LOT is the sizing for things. Mostly you have to be pretty trim for the clothes to fit you, except for the t-shirt, which is the only thing that has XL and XXL available. Also, there’s no bra available. I was dying of laughter over the floss, too. Apparently they could not find anyone to make black floss for them?

      • That must be it! I have a city near me as well, thought that was odd! Thank you for that!
I was wondering about the floss, such as stark contrast to their black and white everything!
I didn’t look at the sizing, but that is too funny/bizarre!

      • Spot on comments on LOT! Just saw this post and the video and it’s definitely the sub box choice for those in a uniform-wearing cult, complete with biblical quotations on their website and clothes that last only long enough for members to reach their intended goal (Is that goal weight loss, enlightenment, minimalism or something else?)? Are we sure they aren’t punking us?

      • This is really creepy- I looked at the site after reading the comments and when looking at this part on the website, it has the town I am in listed when it says nor chrome nor (insert town name)…do you happen to be in a town called Frankford?

I really am curious where they found this one.

  31. Not crazy about any of them really, but voted for the Elka box because it does sound intriguing. Shipping totally bites, though.

I am voting for BARE ELEMENT.

    • Bare Element would be nice! I tried recommending them a few times already, but nothing yet. Hopefully, they’ll listen to you. 😉

Are you subbed? I subbed for a few boxes before I took a sub break, and really liked them. I definitely plan to re-sub in a few months. 🙂

  32. Would LOVE to see a review on I just cancelled a similar (personalized curation) book subscription because of lack of customer service mixed with price increase. Just the Right Book is the only other one I’ve come across that seems like it would fit my interests, but it’s more money and less product than the subscription I had so I’m VERY leery on if I should subscribe or not.

  33. Had to vote for modern love because I think the review will be interesting to say the least.

  34. I’d like to see the Modern Love box.

  35. Haha I thought the LOT link was going to say it was a joke, but no…I guess any idea is worth a shot in the subscription box world!

  36. Wow. These are seriously strange. I don’t care to see any of them but curious to see which one wins lol.
How bout a review of the Witchbaby soap co box? I only just heard of it and i cannot wait to get my box!

  37. I’m on the ball this month! I’ve already subscribed to two of these (Zakka Kit and Innocent Kit). I love stationery and crafts, and I can’t wait to see what these are like. BTW, Innocent Kit did offer a “non-swearing” option; that was the one I selected 😉

  38. None of those sound good to me. 🙁 How about The Homesteading Box, I’d love to see that one reviewed since I’ve had my eye on it for quite a few months.

    • I’d like to see a review of this one too!

      • Yay! I’m not the only one out there. 🙂

    • I agree! I just discovered this box and think an MSA review would be great! Anyone already sub?

    • This Homestead box does look really interesting. I’d like it for myself, but I think it’d be a great Christmas gift for my mom, who’s always looking for projects to keep herself busy during the wintertime when her garden slows down (or is covered with snow, for that matter).

  39. Could you guys please review the Go Organix Beauty Box when it launches on September 15th?

I’m surprised you guys haven’t mentioned it at all yet.

    • OMG! Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Anais.

    • Oooh, this looks like great box, and I’m not really into makeup either! I’d definitely sub though! 😀

  40. I wish you guys would review Sens Unique, a French perfume box.

  41. These are super weird. And what happened to those poor LOT people? They don’t look right at all. Is there a problem with their recovery?

    • I think they’re checking to see if their disposable clothing is wearing out.

      • Hands down the best comment! Thanks for making my day!!
