Driftaway Coffee is a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly coffee subscription that delivers new and different coffees based on your tasting feedback.
Every subscription begins with a “tasting kit,” which is what we’ll be reviewing today ($8.00). Unlike the standard subscription boxes, which contain just one type of coffee, this box contains four bags of delicious coffee, at two ounces each. After you receive this kit (which counts as your first month of the service), you'll start receiving just one coffee per box and be charged the full subscription cost.
This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
The Subscription Box: Driftaway Coffee
The Cost: The initial tasting kit is $8.00, then there are various options that include receiving 7 ($12), 11 ($16), or 32 ($34) ounces either weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. See plan details here.

Driftaway Coffee sends lots of information in their box. First, there was a card describing how the process for coffee rating works.
There was also card providing information on the company and how to brew “the perfect cup.” I followed all the instructions the first time (except I don’t have a Burr grinder) and I felt fairly confident to do it without all the fuss (measuring the amount of water and coffee and the temperature of the water) after that.
Colombia Huila Finca El Tabor
“Columbia is known for balanced coffees….We roasted this with our Balanced Profile to showcase its origin characteristics while giving it a little body.”
Each coffee comes with a card describing the coffee, the coffee producer’s story and some “Did You Know” information.
As I’m drinking better quality and fresher coffee now, I’ve noticed I don’t always need to drink a bold roast to have the flavor I enjoy. This was a great coffee that I think anyone would like.
El Salvador SHG Santa Ana
“We used our Classic Profile, which is medium roast, balance the many different flavors of this coffee. Dark chocolate and caramel notes meld nicely together to create a creamy, classic cup...”
I like this coffee because of the chocolate tones and the heavier weight. I also use a little less water than typically called for because I enjoy a strong flavor.
Ethiopia Sidamo Aroresa GR-1
“Our fruity profile, which is a lighter roast, brings out the floral, bergamot and citrus notes of this coffee.”
I may be imagining things but the fruity, lighter roasts seem to have more of an orange color to them. I’m not a fan of the lighter roasts but I love bergamot and citrus in my teas. If you like a lighter roast but don’t want to skip on flavor, I think you’ll like this one.
Nicaragua SHG Isabelia
“The darker roast brings out the walnut and cocoa notes, which are well balanced with the bright sweetness of cherry.”
Dark roast coffees are my happy place so this is my favorite. It has a nice rich flavor and a bold taste which is what I need to jolt me to attentiveness in the morning!
Verdict: This was my second month of receiving Driftaway Coffee and again all the coffees were wonderful. Everything I tried was super fresh and had a nice flavor. I especially enjoyed the bold roasts but no matter what type of roast you like, I’m certain you will enjoy Driftaway Coffee. I also enjoyed learning about the coffee producers and about some new facts related to coffee growing.
Driftaway Coffee is a bit on the expensive side but I think for the quality and the freshness you receive, plus getting to try new varieties each month, this is still quite a great subscription. This would make a fabulous gift for any coffee lover but if you drink coffee, be sure to try it yourself too.
