Kool Kat Collection Natural Cat Toys Scratch and Shake – Value $4.45
This has feathers and some sort of noisemaker inside and is covered with sisal. (I am unfamiliar with this brand.) I am absolutely certain that Angus is going to find it in the middle of the night, wherein 1 of 2 things will happen: (1) he will make a lot of noise and wake me up or (2) I will end up stepping on this in the morning. At any rate, he’s been having a lot of fun with it so far. (I could only find these on eBay.)
Petcandy PCN Nips – Value $3.59
I’ve received these in a lot of subscription boxes but they are always popular. They are covered in soft fabric and have a bit of stuffing and catnip inside. They are small enough for most cats to toss around, and the catnip seems to last awhile. Mr. Kitty didn’t want me to take this away from him after I posed him with it for a photo.
Cat Play Cave from Petking – Value $4.99
I don’t think I’ve received a toy like this in a subscription box before. (I have a very long tube that is similar, but I bought that.) It is hollow so your cat can go in there (a bit small for the cat’s whole body, though) and it has a dangly pom pom to bat at. Mr. Kitty likes sitting in such things, though he doesn’t play with the attached toy.
Jakks Pets Claw Doodles – Value $3.87
This is an octopus on a suction cup. The suction cup worked pretty well on my glass curio cabinet (see below, with a cat). I really thought this would be an Angus toy, but actually Monkey wanted to rub his chin on it.
Kool Kat Collection Kitty Dangler with Catnip – Value $7.99?
This was the big hit of the box, but I’m not surprised. Dangly things on sticks are always winners around here. The wand is short, but long enough to avoid finger damage around active cats, and the bird was good for them to sink their claws and teeth into. Angus loved it, of course, but Sneaky actually played with it as well. (I could only find this on wholesale sites so the price is an estimate based on similar items.)
Loving Pets It’s Purely Natural Buffalo (2 oz) – Value $3.99
This treat was kind of a fail. Sneaky, Angus, and Madison all liked the smell and chewed on it, but it was really big, tough pieces of dried meat. So even though each one of them tried to eat it, none were successful in getting any parts off to swallow. I couldn’t even break it into smaller pieces. You can see it with some cats below. This was honestly more of a dog treat, in my opinion.
Smartykat Knockout Treat Toy – Value $9.99
I have had one of these for years but I’m not sure where it is right now so I’m good with getting a new one. This has a weight in the bottom that makes the egg stand upright, and little holes. The idea is that you put treats in there and the cat knocks the egg over so the treats fall out. You will need small, hard treats for best results. Of all my cats, only Madison understands how to get treats out. Poor guy, too – the other cats watch him until he knocks a treat out, then they steal the treat from him.
Gratuitous cat pictures!
Angus was very kind and let Sneaky play with this first. But he had to get in a few minutes with it, as well!
Madison tried really hard to eat the treats but was ultimately unsuccessful. I’m just happy I got him out from under the bed.
Monkey wasn’t really feeling the photo session today. That’s OK, we all have off days.
But Sneaky, now. Sneaky was the star today. She’s been cranky lately so I was happy to see her being active.
And a few shots of Mr. Kitty. I’m not sure he knew what was going on. He really can’t see much at all any more.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $38.87 for the July Pet GiftBox for cats. That’s a really good value for this box (even if some of the values are estimates, it’s still over the month-to-month cost of the box by quite a bit). The treats were not a success, but most of the toys were wins, and several cats who don’t play much lately even got in on the action, so I’m pretty happy.
