This month's theme is "A Taste of Europe."
The back of the info card lists the treats I received and a little more about each product. They don't list the brands, nor retail prices, though, which other subscriptions do. (It can be helpful if I want to find the snacks again.) I see a lot of chocolate flavors in here, folks... It's going to be a good box!
Original Recipe Scones Premium Mix by Sticky Fingers Bakeries, 1 lb. Bag - Value $9.97
I love the starchy, buttery flavor of scones (for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a midnight snack... the list goes on)! This mix is awesomely easy to prepare (just add water!), which is perfect for a novice baker like me.
This mix makes a dozen smaller-sized scones. I'm used to coffee shop scones that can get pretty big (my local shop has ones that are about the size of a bagel), but I like the idea of having smaller versions to nibble on bit by bit. Of course, these plain scones are just a palette for whatever deliciousness you decide to spread on them, which brings us to...
Just Jan's Seedless Raspberry Spread, 1.4 oz. - Value $0.97 (Buy a 10 oz. jar for $6.95 via Just Jan's shop)
Jam! I like the tart flavor of this raspberry spread, though raspberry isn't my favorite (I'm a strawberry gal myself). It is a great, sweet, acidic touch to help brighten up the scones.
I very much like that this jam is seedless. I suppose the texture of the seeds can be interesting, but I definitely prefer the smooth, almost creamy texture that comes with this seedless version!
Elaine's ETC Toffee Company Almond Toffee in Dark Chocolate Bar, 2 oz. - Value $3.95
I'm so torn on this next treat! I love dark chocolate and am very into almonds, but toffee really isn't my thing. A little bit here or there is okay, but a whole bar is a bit much for me.
The toffee is sweet, a bit nutty, and kind of toasty in flavor. I like having the dark chocolate there to vary up the flavors in the bar. But, oof, I just can't get past that feeling of having hard toffee sticking to my teeth!
Creme de Pirouline, 2 Pack - Value $0.28 (Buy 12 packs of 10 for $16.71 on Amazon)
Now these cookies, I love. I remember eating these as a little kid. I was always so enchanted by the idea of a cookie in the shape of a wand!
The wafer tubes of these cookies are light and really crumbly. They have a strong vanilla flavor to me, which I liked. It complemented the chocolate flavor of the creme inside. There was a hint of hazelnut in there, but in a Nutella way—they struck me as more chocolatey than hazelnutty.
Petit Box French Mini Lemon Cookies, 2 oz. - Value $2.99
Ooo, these cookies are so tasty! They have a bright lemon flavor that's complemented by a pinch of sea salt (not something I've seen outside of chocolate chip cookies before, but what a difference it makes). It shouldn't make a difference, but I also love that these cookies come in this teeny little box! How sweet!
There are six crispy cookies in the box. They're all just about the size of a half dollar, so they're great for nibbling on as a mid-afternoon snack.
Marlo's Soft-Baked Biscotti in Chocolate Chip Brownie - Value $1.44?
I couldn't find this exact flavor online, so I linked to something similar from Marlo's. What a delicious little treat! My main complaint with biscotti is that it's often too hard to really enjoy. I'm not the type to dip cookies into my tea or coffee, either, so I'm usually just kind of stuck with a big hard cookie.
This biscotti, on the other hand, is soft baked. That doesn't mean that it's squishy like an actual brownie by any means, but it does mean that it has more of the typical texture of a cookie. It's easy to break in half and is just a little bit crumbly. The best part of this rich, cocoa-y brownie flavor is that there are actual chunks of chocolate inside!
Marlo's Soft-Baked Biscotti in Brown Sugar Coffee Cake - Value $1.44?
There's a second flavor of this biscotti in the box, as well (yay!). I'm a chocolate gal, so I'll always love chocolate flavors more. But this cinnamon-infused treat was really delicious, nonetheless.
I was surprised at just how much this biscotti really tasted like coffee cake! This one, too, had a texture like a fresh cookie. It was cool enjoying the flavors I'd usually find in a cake in a cookie-like consistency.
Two Ticolino Tea Company Ruby Raspberry Tea Sticks - Total Value $0.75 (Buy an 18 pack for $6.73 on Amazon)
I've never seen an item like this before. These "tea sticks" are like little individual tea infusers. All you do is set the perforated ends into your hot water, then pull the tea stick out when you've steeped it to your taste.
The tea flavor is "Ruby Raspberry" which is a fruity, slightly tangy blend. It's not what I'd expect to have alongside an English tea, but the concept behind these sticks is so cool, I'm totally down to try it!
Verdict: I really liked this month's Sweets Giftbox! I estimated the value to be about $22.00, which is a few dollars short of the $25.00 price (with free shipping). I would've loved getting one more treat in the box, but I really enjoyed what items I did get! Any box with this many chocolate-centric snacks is bound to win my heart—I do wish the dark chocolate hadn't been surrounding toffee, but hey, I'll take what I can get! And while the brands weren't listed on the info card, these items were all clearly labeled. If I want to nab a few of my favorite items from this box, I know where to look!
