A welcome notecard was included in the box to assure that the Sports Crate is an officially licensed product of Major League Baseball.
A tri-fold booklet was also included and listed this month’s theme as “Bringin’ the Heat.” The box this month was focused on pitchers. All the items in the box were listed in the pamphlet as well as a reminder to check your email where they sent a code for a month’s free trial of MLB TV.
Yankee Shirt - Value $20.00?
This Sports Crate exclusive ¾ sleeve t-shirt is made of moisture wicking material which is very popular right now. Personally, I just prefer plain cotton t-shirts, but maybe they’ll send that out in a future box. I like the big Yankee logo on the front of the shirt and I thought the background white design of a segmented pitching glove was cool too.
I wasn’t thrilled though to see Sports Crate’s name and logo printed on the back of the shirt. I wish subscription boxes didn’t brand their names and logos on items (especially those with higher values).
Masahiro Tanaka Baller Figure - Value $20.00?
There was a fully posable Baller figurine of Yankee pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. The figure uses SportsFlex posable technology which includes 21 points of articulation. Tanaka is wearing his number “19” on his jersey and comes with a pitching mound plate that he can stand on in an upright position.
Bringin’ the Heat Pin - Value $5.00?
This brightly colored enamel pin features a flaming baseball and the Yankee logo. I thought the red, orange and yellow flames were well done and this pin is a Sports Crate exclusive. This would make a nice addition to a sports pin collection.
Cornhole Game - Value $12.00?
Cornhole is such a fun game and this was my favorite part of this month’s box. The cornhole game is typically played with two cornhole boards, but this tabletop version came with only one. It had cute white mini sandbags that are designed to resemble baseballs with the red stitching. The board is made with particleboard; folds flat for easy storage and the rules and scoring system are printed on the box for beginners. My son and I have already played this a few times since receiving the box and have been enjoying it very much.
Cooler Pack with Strap - Value $4.00?
When I first unpacked this zippered cooler from the crate I thought it was a fanny pack because of how it was folded flat. The cooler can hold a six pack of cans but doesn’t offer much in the way of insulation. It felt like a cheap giveaway from the Sports Crate logo to the flimsy quality. It would have been better to have a Yankee logo rather than a Sports Crate logo in my opinion.
Topps Trading Card - Value $2.00?
Every month Sports Crate will be sending a limited edition Topps trading card. This month’s card was of pitcher Masahiro Tanaka which would look great displayed along with the posable figurine.
Verdict: I enjoyed my first Sports Crate by Loot Crate. I liked the cornhole game and posable figure the best. I wish they would ease up a bit on the Sports Crate branding, but overall I am pleased with their first box of the season and I am certainly looking forward to seeing what they send out in June. The value with my estimations comes to $63.00 which is well above the $39.99 cost of the box. I think this would make a great gift for MLB fans and I won’t be surprised if they start making boxes for more than the 10 teams they started with this year.
