With Pocky being my only real familiarity in the world of Japanese snacks, I was excited to see what unique treats this Skoshbox box had to offer!
The booklet included thoroughly explains each item that I've received so there are no ingredient surprises. Super helpful when you can’t read the nutrition labels!
It’s also wildly informational with little tidbits you can read when enjoying your array of snacks. Did you know that wasabi peaks in flavor 15-20 minutes from the time that it’s grated?
Brush up on my knowledge of Japanese cuisine!
Choco Chips Mini - Value $1.99 (buy 4 bags for $7.48 or 8 bags for $14.65)
Now that you’ve digested some food facts, it’s snack time. First up in this month’s Skoshbox were the Choco Chips Mini. These 1.5" crispy cookies came in a pretty hefty package and couldn’t be tastier. I love how snacking on tiny versions of your favorite regular-sized treats immediately makes you feel less guilty about finishing an entire package. Or is that just me?
Everyburger - Value $2.99 (buy 4 boxes for $11.24 or 8 boxes for $22.01)
Speaking of miniatures, Everyburger is described as "hamburger shaped chocolate biscuit cookies," and I can’t argue with that. They were delicious albeit a bit melted together when I received my box. Slightly messy, in true burger fashion, and totally adorable. The chocolate in the middle of each burger provided the perfect morsel of creamy sweetness.
You’re even greeted by a waving, winking burger upon opening! Hi, Everyburger!
Gelee Puré Setouchi Mikan - $2.49 value (buy 4 packs for $9.36 or 8 packs for $18.33)
I’m a huge fan of gummies AND citrus, so I was delighted to find these tangerine cuties in my box. They are the perfect mix of sour, tangy, and sugary sweet! Bonus: they’re shaped like little hearts.
Kotsubu Ka-Ru Usuaji - $1.99 value (currently out of stock)
Lastly, the Kotsubu Ka-Ru Usuaji puffed chips reminded me a bit of cheese curls. They’re seasoned with fish stock and kelp, and you definitely get that fishy flavor. This savory snack was a wonderful way to break up an otherwise sweet-centered box and welcome some salty goodness. Being so airy, they'll go fast.
Here are all the snacks! Clockwise: Choco Chips Mini, Everyburger, Kotsubu Ka-Ru Usuaji, and Gelee Puré Setouchi Mikan.
Verdict: I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed my introduction to Japanese snacking! This box had a fun mix of familiar flavors and brand new concepts, so it would be fantastic for someone who’s starting to become interested in the world of Asian snack food. Kelp puffs? Who knew I’d be such a fan. However, the Everyburger gets my vote for favorite after racking up points in 1) packaging cuteness, 2) overall winning concept, and 3) of course, deliciousness.
This month's value is $9.46, so it isn’t a high-value box in terms of retail price, but I thought the products included were all high quality and the info booklet was really well done, too. Plus, you get to sample a variety of flavors and themes! Totally worth it, especially if you don’t have easy access to Asian snack foods in your area.
What do you think of Skoshbox? What are your favorites this month?
