My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Ipsy Makeup and Beauty Subscription Box - June 2017

Ipsy’s theme for this month is ‘Volume Up’, and it’s all about being able to express yourself fearlessly. I totally agree that it is now more important than ever to stand by for what we believe in, be it human rights, climate change, or social injustice.

This canvas bag’s quirky design is a small reminder for us to speak up our mind. I think it’s adorable! It’s lined on the inside too!

Now, onto the items!

Beauty For Real - I-LINE 24-7 Eyeliner - FULL SIZE! Value $14

Beauty For Real was founded by a celebrity makeup artist, Leslie Munsell. Their products are Cruelty-Free and developed with ‘high-tech formulas and beneficial natural ingredients along with smart innovative packaging’.

Ipsy Makeup and Beauty Subscription Box - June 2017

I received this eyeliner in 24 Karat, which is a warm golden shade. It claims to be a waterproof gel eyeliner with 24-hour wear time. It also contains Vitamin E to condition your skin. This eyeliner is creamy, easy to apply, and very pigmented. The swatch on my arm didn’t smudge or budge at all during the day, and it lasted a long time on my eyelid, too. (I used it in place of eyeshadow since it’s not very visible as an eyeliner on my skin tone)

Margaret Dabbs London - Treatment-Enriched Nail Polish in Green Daylily – FULL SIZE! Value £14 ($18 USD)

This nail polish came all the way here from England! The founder of this brand, Margaret Dabbs, crafted her products and treatments to be exceptionally effective while ensuring that the scent, look, and feel are luxurious. She uses ‘Emu Oil’ as her key super ingredient as a base for her product lines.

Ipsy Makeup and Beauty Subscription Box - June 2017

This nail polish is enriched with Vitamin E and Wild Rose to strengthen and protect the nails. While the bright teal color is a little out of my comfort zone, I really do love the formula. It was easy to apply and very opaque (only 1 coat needed), plus it didn’t smell like a nail polish AT ALL. In fact, there’s a subtle rose scent that lasted on my nails for days!

Here’s how it looks on my medium-warm skin tone. This is one coat of application plus top coat. The color looks greener in real life.

Vasanti Cosmetics - Power Oils Lip Gloss in Super Mom - 2.3g Value $6.72 (Full-Size 6.5g Value $19)

**This is my requested item**

I have tried some of Vasanti skincare from GlossyBox and Birchbox, and I have been impressed with their quality. So when Ipsy allowed us to send them a sample request, I didn’t hesitate and picked this beautiful mauvy nude lip gloss. This sample size has almost the same amount of product as Colourpop full-size lip gloss!

Ipsy Makeup and Beauty Subscription Box - June 2017

This lip gloss is Cruelty-Free, Vegan-Friendly and Paraben Free. It’s enriched by natural oils like Pomegranate Oil and Jojoba Oil, both of which are famous for their anti-aging properties. It lasted about 3 hours on my lips without being sticky. The light citrus scent (I think it smells like lemon tea) is a big plus!

The Balm Cosmetics - Balm Spring Blush - 1g Value $3.74 (Full-Size 5.61g Value $21)

Despite knowing this brand for so long, this is actually the first time I’ve tried any products from The Balm Cosmetics! I like their lively packaging and I can’t wait to see if it’ll last 12 hours as it claims.

Ipsy Makeup and Beauty Subscription Box - June 2017

This blush is REALLY pigmented. I almost gave myself a clown face because I wasn’t paying attention while sweeping this blush out of its pan. I think the powder blended easily and the color was not too bright for my skin tone. Unfortunately, on my oily-combination skin, I don’t think it lasted more than a few hours.

Delectable by Cake Beauty - Coconut & Cream Triple Moisture Body Lotion - 2oz Value $3.50 (Full Size 8oz Value $14)

Cake Beauty is an ingredient-conscious brand from Ontario, Canada. Their formulas are natural ingredient-driven, and the brand itself has a fun and playful touch!

(Good to know for swaps – this product has an inner foil seal.)

Ipsy Makeup and Beauty Subscription Box - June 2017

Not only it’s Cruelty-Free, Vegan, Gluten Free, Paraben Free and Phthalate Free, this body lotion also has a sweet coconut & vanilla scent, which is almost too overwhelming for me. Their main ingredients are coconut oil, shea butter, and aloe vera. The lotion absorbed easily and made my skin feel hydrated for hours. This is a sizable sample size and I will be able to use this for a while.

Ipsy Makeup and Beauty Subscription Box - June 2017

Here is the look I completed using everything from my June Ipsy bag, including the Balm blush, Beauty For Real eyeliner, and Vasanti lip gloss.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $46, which is great for a $10 subscription. I think the value is on par with my regular Ipsy bags (with the exception of May, which had an even higher value). Even though only 2 products were full-sized, I felt like I received 4 full-sized products because the lip gloss and body lotion sample are quite sizable! I love the eyeliner and lip gloss and enjoyed everything they sent me.

HELP anyone PLEASE I need to know the average weight of an Ipsy Bag because I’m ordering internationally. I know that the weight varies every month but can anyone give me an average? Is it more than 1 lb?

Lolafiona

I just started in June and am unimpressed with their billing practices. I was taken off the waiting list, withdrawal from my account on 4th and no JUNE bag.
I received a email welcoming me and my next withdrawal would be AUGUST 1st. I assumed no July billing since no June bag. Then they withdrew $10 on JULY 1st, reminding me another withdrawal on August 1st.

I actually emailed because there was never a mention of a JULY withdrawal.

Am I wrong? I believe they owe me a bag? The CSR was rude.

Got everything you did, but the eyeliner (I don’t use eyeliner). I got the PUR Fully Charged mascara I chose instead (LOVE mascara!). Love my bag and last month’s too. Awesome review and look forward to reading these.

I LOVE my Vasanti lipgloss! I was disappointed I got the only nail polish shade that I didn’t want: the Kokie polish in a pretty cobalt blue, but I already have a couple of similar polishes. Anyone interested in swapping for a coral shade? I’m not picky about brand, as long as it’s decent quality.

I’m getting a lot of the same except for the lotion I’m getting a face product I think and I don’t know what color of liner yet. But I’m Happy with it.

Cat

The lip gloss and blush suit you for a polished natural look. I wish I’d gotten that eyeliner!!

I tried not looking at my items when the email came in but not self-control took over. I love a surprise but I wanted the extra reward points for sharing. My whole bag is blah blah. I think after being back for 2 months I’m cancelling I don’t need much else for beauty boxes except look fantastic. They rock my world. I wish they added more makeup though… Thats just how I’m feeling.

This is the only make up sub that I have kept. I LOVE Ipsy (even though I really don’t need any more make up).

I’m new to Ipsy; this month is my first box. What do you love about them so much specifically? I wanted to try them and Play! both out and see which one I’ll keep.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Ipsy is definitely the best about sending big sample sizes, mostly makeup, and keeping subscribers engaged throughout the month by staggering updates. I feel like I get an ipsy email I’m excited about once a week! Play, on the other hand, is a lot more no frills. The samples are high end but TINY (I’d say nothing bigger than my little finger, and often more the size of a quarter) and a mix of makeup and skincare, and they really don’t engage through other offers etc. Personally, I feel that I’d get better value from Sephora if I just spent the $10/month on products I wanted and used my points from those purchases for the occasional extra sample I wanted, but to each herown! 🙂

Lisa

I like that I mostly get full size. And even the few samples I get are pretty big.

Nice review Jira! I’m not getting any of the same items, but it’s interesting reading about them. I would love to try the lotion.

Julie

I love the lip gloss which was also my pick. It’s a beautiful WEARABLE color, its hydrating, & it smells amazing. Definitely not something you can apply without a mirror though.

jira

I’m glad you like the lipgloss, it’s my favorite item in the bag too!

It’s weird to me that so many Ipsy products are cruelty-free and vegan, then they throw in a brand that uses emu oil as its base for its products. Not only are birds killed for the oil, the oil has been falsely marketed as a cure for cancer, arthritis, etc. It’s the new snake oil.

Reply ButtonReply

justmissjamey

Which brand and item had the emu oil in it??! Is it by chance the red trust fund polish?? If so, that’s what is supposed to be in my bag (per the website ).. I’ve been a vegetarian for 25 years out of respect for animals (I do not mind or care if someone else eats meat, and I don’t judge ) but personally I don’t want to use known products that are produced by hurting animals…
Thanks

justmissjamey

Whoops, I see it now…my mistake for not reading…I thought I had already read the ipsy review.. hopefully I don’t get the blue one shown

Punkykiki

Emu oil and snail slime!!! Crushed beetles to make products red. Come on, people….we live in a world where beauty products can be just as beneficial and amazing WITHOUT using animals and their secretions (and we use ALOT more than just the three mentioned). Are we truly that vain??? Beauty products are fun and transforming and make us feel good about ourselves. But we should all remember that beauty on the inside is worth a million times more than a face full of makeup made with bug and animal parts. Yuck!!!! P.S. Yes, I received the nail polish from Ipsy. Not too sure what to do with it now…..it looks beautiful and expensive, but I will not be wearing it. 😿

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

If you don’t approve of animal products in cosmetics, you probably won’t like an ipsy subscription. Unfortunately they don’t currently have any cruelty free subscription options, and I think until they see clear proof that this is losing them subscribers, they are pretty unlikely to start offering one. 🙁

jira

Oh my, thank you for letting us know. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Alex

Oh no. The polish was the only item I liked but I can’t support animal cruelty. Why would polish ever ever need oil? Especially emu oil? I’m sure a lot of people are put off by this. It seems unnecessary and cruel.

Reply ButtonReply

Nikki

Yeah, ew not cool. Would not have wanted to get that product.

Reply ButtonReply

Patricia

Thanks for letting us know. I was wondering about that and was going to research it. Had never even heard of it.

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

Try using that gold eyeliner right on top of the black. Unless it’s really low pigment, it should pop and give you a nice gold line. I’m hoping I get that, but the brown is ok too. I’m getting one of them…

Reply ButtonReply

jira

Thanks Bonnie! Will definitely try that!

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Hi Jira, do you remember if the eyeliner came sealed? I might try to swap for it. Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

jira

Hi Michelle, unfortunately, as Kikikenzie said, it did not come sealed. I’m sure you can still swap it though 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Kikikenzie

I got this exact bag, eyeliner does not come sealed.

Reply ButtonReply

Dea

So fat from emus is blended into the nail polish. Got it.

Reply ButtonReply

Tara

Every time I think about resubbing to ipsy i see a review with lipstick, eyeliner and nail polish, all items I don’t use! When I get unusable items with Sephora they are gold on the swap site but ipsy items never go. I just can’t decide! Are they giving the option of eliminating 3 categories to everyone?

Reply ButtonReply

DancesWithFerrets

Yes the opt-out categories are for everyone. You have to email them which ones you want out of, and they are only letting some people opt-out of two. They will opt you out of that certain product for a period of time. It’s also good to know that if you want to opt-out of a certain formula of product such as liquid eyeliner, you have to opt-out of eyeliner altogether.

Reply ButtonReply

Dana

Oh, I wanted that gold eyeliner so bad. They keep giving me black. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Natalia

same 🙁 .. hopefully next time!

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

That 2oz cake lotion actually sells for $6 on their website.
