Now on to the items!

Mellow Matte Liquid Lip Paint in Tehran – .05 oz? Value $7?

The sample size is bigger than the full-size amount listed on the Birchbox site (.01 oz). I’m assuming the size listed on the Birchbox site is wrong, and that this size is about half the size of the full-size version.

The color is a warm brown, with good pigment. It dries matte, and has decent staying power. It’s a good liquid lip, but not one of my favorites. Here is the color swatched:

Davroe Ends Repair – 50 ml Value $10

This is a great sized sample and a new-to-me brand! Good job, Birchbox! This leave-in treatment smells lovely, didn’t weigh down my hair, and is ingredient conscious. I’m a fan! It also helped give a little moisture back to my hair and manage frizz.

Davines SU Hair & Body Wash – 75 ml Value $7.20

I’ve sampled this before, and it’s as luxe as it looks. The scent is fresh and slightly powdery, and I love a multi-use product for summer travel!

Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 – 10 ml Value $7.75

This is a perfect summer product for me. It kept my face less oily than my regular primer, and I get the added bonus of SPF.

Benefit Roller Lash – .1 oz Value $8

I’ve already sampled this mascara from Benefit and I’m a fan. I’m able to build a lot of volume and length without any clumping on the lashes. It’s my go-to backup mascara if I’m out of Tarte! 🙂

Verdict: This box has a value of about $40 – that’s good for a $10 beauty box. In most cases, the curated box has a good value, so I recommend always picking it if that’s a priority for you. What do you think of the May

This is one of the best curated boxes I’ve seen from Birchbox in a while. Every single item is a multiple-use sample, and the value is great, too.

What do you think of the June Birchbox? Did you pick a curated box or a sample?

  1. This was my first time using this subscription. I was not happy at all. I just got my target beauty box and I got more useful products. Can I cancel this subscription?

  2. I was feeling a bit more positive about Birchbox and their personal curation until June’s box…ugh. I received Estee Lauder full coverage make-up for medium skin. I have light complexion and make-up minimalist marked on my survey. I received Kiehl’s Oil Free Gel Cream. I have extremely dry skin with signs of aging. LOVE the brands, but absolutely no personal match. Then add in a black eyeliner, broken Manna eye candy and my choice of an Oribe Texture Spray.

I should listen to Liz and go with the curated box. LOL I was looking forward to a surprise.

  3. I got the smashed up Manna Kadar, and some “lavender scalp oil” that had leaked all over everything in the box. And smelled clearly rancid. Box fail. The itsy bitsy Benefit brow pencil is useful and I will use the Hyrda C gel sample, so there’s that, though wouldn’t have paid $10 for them.

    • Whoops make that smashed up Manna eye shadow stick.

  4. I just quit Birchbox, and would have loved the curator box. Happy for everyone. So far people seem pleased.

  5. That Murad mattifier WORKS!!! I’ve been using it for about two years now.

  6. I didn’t get the curated box because I really wanted the Oribe from the pick one item choices…even though I haven’t gotten my box, I’m have box choice regret now.

  7. I didn’t get the curated box, but I got a Mellow cosmetics lip paint in the color “New York,” which is a burgundy. I would love to swap for more if anyone doesn’t want theirs, but I can’t find any on the swap site in that shade. I only see “Tehran” on the swap site.

    • I haven’t received my non-curated box yet but if I were to get this shade, I’d definitely be interested in swapping.

    • I have the mellow nude color,if you’d like to swap.

  8. I had Beta & got a completely different box – but I found it bizarre that on the info card it listed all my samples as “FULL SIZE” when it’s quite obvious NONE of them are…?

    • Birchbox always does that. It doesn’t mean that your samples are full size; they are telling you how much the full size is worth. :/

  9. This was a good curated box from Birchbox. This month’s box from Birchbox is better than Ipsy and Sephora for this month.

  10. The Davroe Ends Repair is probably the best subscription box find I have gotten possibly ever. I have very long, very thick, very very straight hair and this product worked perfectly to tame frizz and make the ends appear healthier, however it is not a thick product and was not noticeable as many products are on my light blonde hair.

    • I loved the Davroes product- great smell, velvety texture, perfect item! I also loved the light baby powder smell of the Davines body wash. Two great finds in this box- very happy!

  11. I actually really liked my box this month. Not every product worked for me, but I’m glad I got to try them. I really love the Benefit Boi-Ing concealer ( sample will last a long time and the color was spot on). The coola Rōsilliance bb cream seemed oily and not the right color, but I’m glad I got to try it out. My Manna Kadar sample fell out of its tube, but Birchbox gave me a $5 credit.

There needs to be a moritoreum on Manna Kadar products for a bit.

  12. I agree and loved everything in this box!!! I especially love the SPF matte primer, L-O-V-E that stuff!!! The mascara is awesome! Great volume, love the curling aspect and I like the lip stain. Can’t wait to use my hair items!!!

  13. I got a second sub for BB, and for second one I chose curator box. Happy to receive it. My first sub, I asked to be totally surprised and I got Smashbox primer (again), MannaKadar (again), Amika shampoo and conditioner and Vasanti face rejuvenator (whatever it is). Not bad either

  14. I got this one and I love it! I agree the Davroe Ends Repair is a great size!

  15. I’m excited to get this box for the hair product and body wash and mascara. I have dry skin, even in summer so the mattifier will be on swap. Overall happy to try some new things!
