Birchbox replied to my Facebook post saying to PM them so they could look into it. I did two hours ago. Will update if they say anything helpful.
Someone else commented on my post that they had the same problem, though. I suspect that it’s a site issue rather than a stock issue.

I had the same issue for an order I placed. I emailed and I’m waiting for a response. I thought I was crazy , I know I added the promo and then it was gone . Hopefully they can send to me because my order shipped . 🙁

I placed an order and gave them the order number, and they placed a second, free order for just the extra Birchbox. Both have shipped. I would message them on Facebook or Twitter.

I just got a reply that said to place the order, reply with my order number, and they would make sure the mystery Birchbox gets sent out (since that’s what it really is as opposed to 5 extra samples).

I just tried this. I thought I’d stock up on Acure facial wipes and a Miss Jessie’s product that I love (Quick Curls), plus I just ran out of ABH Brow Wiz.
They don’t carry Miss Jessie’s or Anastasia Beverly Hills anymore 😭 Anyway I put $40 of Acure stuff in my cart plus the mystery sample pack, and it told me the code MYSTERY was invalid. I remove the MSP in case you couldn’t take advantage of and use the MYSTERY code, but it still said the code was invalid 😡
I guess Birchbox wants me to shop at Target instead, since they carry Miss Jessie’s and Acure.

The actual Birchbox web site promotes it as “Spend $35+, get a free Mystery Birchbox with any purchase”. I ordered things I’ve been wanting because I love the idea of getting a mystery BB. I’m hoping for deluxe samples and not just foils.

The last time I got a mystery birchbox, the samples were primarily for thick, curly hair. Mine is thin, stick straight, and only holds a curl for an hour, no matter what styling treatments I use. Plus perfume (gives me a headache) and at least one other totally useless thing to me.
AND the birchbox didn’t even have a fun pattern, it was just a solid peach color. Yawn.
