Now, onto the items!
Appeal Cosmetics Ultra Shine Liquid Lipstick in Nude - Value $21
This pinky-nude lip color had a thin, non-sticky texture and applied easily with the doe foot applicator. It was not shiny like the info card showed, but more of a semi-matte. I wasn’t a big fan of the way it looked applied. It was a bit cakey and really accentuated the lines on my lips. It did not dry down like many liquid lip colors, and though it claims to be long-lasting, transferred onto anything that touched my lips. It had no detectable fragrance which is nice because I try to stay away from fragranced lip products. You can see it swatched below.
J. Cat Beauty Triple Crown Baked Eyeshadow in Grape Gelato - Value $5.99
I don’t typically wear pink eyeshadows, so I was a bit apprehensive about this shadow trio. Once I blended everything in, the colors were pretty and very springy. These aren’t super pigmented and it took several layers to get the color to stand out but they did blend easily. I ended up wetting my brush and got more of a foiled look. You can see swatches and the full look below.
Manna Kadar Paradise Pearlized Blush - Value $19
This is a peach-pink color with just the right amount of shimmer. But, wow, this blush is pigmented! I ended having to blend it out with some powder. My skin tone is light and I only needed one tap of my brush to pick up enough product. This would be pretty on an olive skin tone that is at least a few shades darker than me. Initially, I thought “This is a small size for the price,” but quickly realized it will last a while.
Be A Bombshell Metallic Eyeliner in Blacklisted - Value $6
I use liquid liner all the time so I was excited about this smoky metallic liner. Unfortunately, the only good thing about it was that once it was applied, it stayed put. The applicator was hard and the liner dried so quickly on the wand that I was having to dip it every few seconds. The end result was not as smooth or opaque as I like. I think there are much better liquid liners out there and I probably won’t pick this one up again.
Blinque Eyelashes False Lashes in Dazzling #503 Sweetpea - Value $3.49
Ugh, fake lashes. We love them and hate them all at the same time. These were no different. They are 100% Remy human hair and I found them surprisingly easy to apply. Luckily, I had a tube of eyelash glue handy because they do not come with any. They were way too obvious for me and didn’t look natural at all. I prefer a more wispy look. You can see a photo of my look with and without the lashes below. I ended up taking them off after an hour because they felt sharp on the edges. These will go in my costume makeup stash and will be perfect for Halloween.
All of the items swatched from top to bottom: eyeshadow trio, blush, eyeliner, lip color.
The makeup look using all of these products except for the lashes. I think it is soft and pretty and I will definitely play around with these eye colors more.
The same look but with the lashes applied.
A detail of the eye look.
Verdict: Sweet Sparkle’s “Hues of Beauty” was a fun box and allowed me to try some shades I wouldn’t normally pick up for myself. It is nice to have a mix of some higher priced items with some more affordable brands. I also like that all of the items this month are cruelty-free and, as always, full-sized. The value of this box totals about $56, which is over double the cost of the box (which includes free shipping).
What do you think of the this month’s Sweet Sparkle box? Have you tried any of these products?
