Sunday Subscriber Survey time! This week's subscription box question is:

What subscription box got you hooked on subscriptions?

For me it was Birchbox. I started subscribing to Birchbox in 2011, and I thought it was amazing to get multiple beauty products in the mail for $10 a month!

In my experience, Birchbox was sending more full-size products in the early years. When I got a Laura Geller full-sized blush in one of my first boxes, I couldn't believe the value compared to the cost! Not only did that get me addicted to subscription boxes, but it also prompted me to create multiple Birchbox accounts so I could get several Birchboxes a month!

What box got you addicted to subscriptions? (Or, if you aren't addicted yet, what are you looking for in that dream box?)

Well, It started with Birchbox years ago, and MSA liked my post on Instagram. Then I subbed to Allure Beauty Box with a discount offer, FFF, Popsugar, BOTMC, 1 Pusheen Box, I get Target boxes for kicks and now BeautyFix! WHAT SHOULD I GET NEXT???

A long time ago, (early 1970’s?) I noticed an ad in a woman’s magazine for something called, “World of Beauty Club”. The first box was $1 then one would be shipped every three months. They were less than $10 each. Each box contained about five full sized items. Later another one came out called Cosmotique. The price was about the same but along with the four or five full sized cosmetic, every box had a full sized perfume. My sister and I were young wives and mothers so getting quality cosmetics was a treat. We subscribed off and on for several years then forgot about them as we entered the workforce. A few years ago we remembered them and wondered what became of them and if there was anything like that now. I searched the net and found a chat room discussing them. There were a few, but many people had really bad experiences. A while later I found this site. It seemed much more promising. I believe Liz did all of the reviews at that time. I subscribed to Birchbox. I was a little bit disappointed because everything wasn’t full sized, but the box included chocolate! Since then I’ve watched as the variety of boxes has grown and Liz’s has blossomed and gotten more informative. Congratulations, Liz! I know that you have worked hard and you deserve this success.

I started with Birchbox and New Beauty test tube. Birchbox I did for two years but it had little value and lots of foil packets so I cancelled. Wantable was amazing for years and I wish MSA would go back to reviewing the makeup box.
I quickly spiraled out of control after that: ipsy, Glossybox, popsugar, fabfitfun, Netaporter, Oui Please, Goodbeing, Test tube, Mommy Mailbox, Allure, Beauty thrills, Benevolent beauty, Sugar bash, stitch fix, Love goodly, a few other health food ones, Target, Walmart, MeMe box, Pür,….I’m forgetting a few, but you get the point, lol. This is compounded by the fact that I’m also a professional makeup artist and get tons of gratis and boxes from the department stores.

BTW what ever happened to Starlooks?

Can’t forget Total Beauty! And Little Lace box, and Vegan cuts, like I said too many to remember!

Birchbox was my first, followed by ipsy and julep and the rest is history!!!!! 😁

It was either Birchbox or Julep that got me started. Neither of which I receive anymore. I attribute my addiction to MSA and Liz (who has a great style)!! I’ve run the gamut over the past two years. Dropped a lot and gained some that I will forever loyally subscribe to. Thanks, Liz. I have tried completely switching over to non cruelty cosmetics and skincare. I’m loving So Susan, Benevolent Beauty, and Love Goodly. But I still get FFF and PS just for the heck of it!!

Because I divorced a stingy man and couldn’t have children I can not remember the last time I opened a gift of any kind. Subscription boxes are my birthday and Christmas gifts every month!!!

IPSY!!!! I still love it!

Birchbox was definitely my first and my gateway into subs.

And, for the last 2 years for Christmas, I have told family to look at MSA and find a subscription they like and I now get that for them for Christmas. They are loving it.

Birchbox in 2015. I saw an ad on TV and was looking for better quality makeup without spending a fortune. I searched the reviews online and came up with MSA and then added more boxes! I check MSA daily now, LOL! Yes, I am addicted now!

Barkbox, actually. I kept seeing the ads for it and thought my pup would love it. Shortly after I found FFF, so I’d say those two were what started it all for me.

Ipsy for me! I think there was an ad for BirchBox that popped up on facebook. I started looking for reviews and found MSA! I looked through previous months and decided on Ipsy – and I still have it 4 years later!
I did the same comparison on MSA when I wanted another one – compared Glossy and Boxy and went with Boxy.

This is a great site for anyone who wants to know which sub would be best for them!

My first subscription box was Jewelmint. I LOVED the mystery boxes. They are now defunct 😥. Then Birchbox then I found MSA and I have tried about 43 different boxes. I am now down to 3.

Oh I remember Jewelmint, I used to be obsessed with YouTubers showing off their Jewelmint and Little Black Bag purchases. What ever happened to them? Good thing I wasn’t an addict then or I’d have a closet full of jewelry and bags I don’t need.

Barkbox…. I started to look forward to the boxes so I decided I needed my own….My first box was Allure Beauty box. Then it was all over for me. I currently subscribe to 6 boxes. I blame it all on the dogs.

I was an early adopter of Birchbox, but the one that really got me interested in trying multiple subs was PopSugar.

My first box was Allure, not sure why, I accidentally come across to it, then it lead me to MSA site and it started …..)). Play by Sephora, Ipsy (was on waiting list for two months), GlobeIn. As of today, i am 24/7 on MSA site and a subscriber to 14 boxes. My favorite is Beautyfix and Boxycham (even that I canceled in May but plan to re-sub in June). I have very routine line – home, kids, work- and subs are just highlight of my life. It bring some excitement , surprise and mystery. Also, I met truly incredible, generous people here, like Monique, she is my absolute example of generosity and kindness.

Just like some commenters have stated… it wasn’t any particular box that got me addicted, it was MSA!!!!! (well, and YouTube unboxings of various boxes)

my gateway was Glossybox back when they had the really, really nice high end generous samples from SKII, etc. then I added Beauty Fix, Ipsy (since dropped), Sephora Play! (also dropped), the occasional Target box, Pusheen (love this one). I was sad to see 3BBox leave us since I do like to sample Asian skin care and have discovered some great items. Recently got Pink Seoul to try and was pretty impressed.

It all started one year ago in April 2016 with Birchbox. From now on, I had Serendipity (unfortunately, lost money on this one :/), Sephora Play!, FabFitFun, Love With Food, and a couple more 🙂

FabFitFun got me hooked. Still my favorite

The Target toilet paper box. Never laughed so hard at marketing in my life! I still cherish the memory.
