The Monthly Mystery Box by Jamminbutter is unlike any other subscription box I've experienced. You literally don't know what you're going to get (for better or worse). The strange thing is, sometimes the items in the box are totally useful. Would I have gone out to find them for myself? Not necessarily. But having them is actually kind of handy! There's also a chance that you'll win a giant prize each month like the 3D printer and Segway mentioned on this info sheet!
There's also a card with a secret code—head to 13deals.com to find out what your code is for.
The company also offers a mini box if you want something a bit smaller.
The first thing in the box is a coupon for Hello Fresh, which is a popular food subscription box. I suppose if you're already subscribed to a meal kit subscription box like this one, this is less valuable to you, but if not, this coupon is a good excuse to experiment with such a service. Already a subscriber? Pass it along to a friend!
Mustache Baking Mold - Value $6.94
Funny story with this pan—I actually got one of these for my mustache-having uncle a few years ago for his birthday! It was a good gag gift and a fun excuse to get in the kitchen and bake! The box has some ideas for what to make in the silicone mold. The "ice sculpture" suggestion definitely made me laugh. Note that it's a big pan—about 17 inches long!
Eternal Back Stretcher Pro - Value $29.99
I've never seen a gadget like this before. I don't suffer from back issues, and I tend to be pretty flexible, so this back stretcher isn't something I'd go looking for on my own. It's about the size of a throw pillow and is meant to support your back while also encouraging it to find its natural curvature (rather than hunching forward, like many of us do at our desk jobs).
There are two pieces—an I-shaped bar and an O-shaped panel. The ends of the panel tuck into slots on either side of the bar, causing the panel to bend like a bow. Depending on which slots you stick the panel into, the panel curves more or less.
Both pieces of this tool are made from really stiff plastic. Getting the panel to fit into even the lowest setting slots took some serious strength. I suppose that speaks to its durability, but it is tricky to set up!
The best part, to me, is that there are little nubs along the length of the device. They don't move or anything, but they feel good pressing into my back, like a massage.
Dominos Double Six Modern Classics - Value $3.00
The next item in the box is this retro box of dominos.
I've never played dominos before, but now that I have them, it could be fun to pull them out during a get-together or a rainy evening in. There are rules printed on the inside of the box lid, too.
The dominos have a nice weight to them and a vintagey black and ivory color scheme.
Mastercraft Boa Constrictor Strap Wrench - Value $6.99
The next two items in the box felt right out of an as-seen-on-TV section, but that doesn't mean they're not super handy! This strap wrench can be adjusted to fit a number of jobs. I'm far from handy, but I do find myself in a pickle from time to time when I need a certain tool and don't have one in a pinch. So while I might not get a ton of use out of this wrench, I feel like I should hang on to it for hardware emergencies!
It's a pretty cool tool, too. The belt is made from super-thick rubber that creates a loop at the top of the device. The handle has a good grip on it, and the plastic it's made of seems pretty sturdy.
Shinju Blade and Ceramic Peeler Set - Value $9.90
Next up is this knife set, which includes a handy kitchen knife and a peeler!
The knife and peeler both feature ceramic blades, which according to the package, don't rust or peel and stay sharper longer than steel.
I don't know a ton about knives, but I definitely need new tools like this in my kitchen! Both products feel pretty solid, if not super high-quality. And I really appreciate that the knife comes with a cover. I can drop it into the drawer with my other utensils and not worry about hurting my hand by accident.
Verdict: This Monthly Mystery Box by Jamminbutter was pretty interesting. For $24.99 (plus free U.S. shipping), and I got almost $57.00 worth of products! That's pretty huge. Now, these aren't the highest quality items, nor the kinds of things I would've picked up at the store for myself. That said, they're all pretty handy, or at least fun. What I don't use, I'm sure I could gift. This box is definitely a luck-of-the-draw sort of thing, but I've been shocked at how much I've been enjoying this box!
