Chocolat Moderne: The Lover Avant-Garde Bar - Value $8

Our first sweet was a white chocolate bar filled with insane taste mixtures from Chocolat Moderne.

Amazon-Prime-Surprise-Sweets-February-2017-0009

This bar has absolutely earned its Avant-Garde name. It's impossible for me to describe the filling taste - it's caramel with passion fruit and cardamom. It's a bit of a flavor explosion combined with white chocolate. For me, it was interesting/not-bad but probably one I wouldn't reorder.

Three Tarts: Raspberry Marshmallows - Value $9.50

These were my first gourmet marshmallows from my surprise sweets boxes!

Amazon-Prime-Surprise-Sweets-February-2017-0012

The box contains 10 marshmallow bricks. These are really tasty! I was a little worried that the raspberry might be a bit overwhelming, but it was subtle enough to be tasty and last with a great aftertaste.

Albina City Nuts: Candied Pecans - Value $5

The last full-size treat is a bag of candied pecans from Albina City Nuts.

Amazon-Prime-Surprise-Sweets-February-2017-0017

I knew I'd like these the minute I open the bag to the delicious scent! These are candied with some simple honey and organic cane sugar - but it really pops the flavor of the pecans. If you love pecans, you'll enjoy these as much as I do.

B.T. McElrath Chocolatier: Salty Dog Bite - Value $.70 on Amazon

I received the same bonus item in my first-ever box in January, so I knew what to expect from this little dark chocolate bite.

Amazon-Prime-Surprise-Sweets-February-2017-0020

Amazon-Prime-Surprise-Sweets-February-2017-0021

Each bite is filled with butter toffee and sea salt. It's a nice taste mixture against a dark chocolate. I love toffee, so this little bite was always going to be a winner.

Verdict: This month, my value comes to around $23.20 (not factoring in any shipping cost). The value of each box seems to sit right in the $22-27 range - so you're getting value for your $18 box, but if you hate one sweet, that value my drop off. This is our third time reviewing the box, and I've been excited to try something new each time - so for me, while the monetary value isn't a home run, the chance to taste test random sweets is pretty great.

I finally got my dash button and ordered a box it’s coming tomorrow. I wonder if I’ll get this one?? Hmmm…

This is the new Sephora Play in terms of FOMO and jealousy.

I’m so jealous of everyone who has received buttons. I wonder what makes Amazon determine who gets an invite. I signed up the day that you mentioned it for the first time. I’ve been an Amazon prime member for 4 years now and regularly make purchases. Hmmm…I wonder if it’s a geographical thing. I live in Eugene, Oregon. Has anyone from here or Oregon in general received a button? Where do you live if you are receiving them? Maybe it’s a big city thing? I’m probably putting way too much thought into this but gosh darn it I want a box of sweets!

Quick follow up – I re-signed up again when I saw this review and got my invite yesterday. My button should be here tomorrow. Ridiculous excited about this!

HA! I am right with you. Long time Prime Member, signed up in the beginning of January and still haven’t received an invite. I am in Madison, WI so I was thinking the same thing about larger markets. I have also put lots of thought into this because my love of sweets is strong!

Ditto. I live in Knoxville Tn. I imagine they have a limited number of slots for a button holder (?), and someone like Liz would get an invite because she has CLOUT! 🙂

Nicole R

Lol, I know…right!?!?! I’m starting to drive myself a little crazy trying to figure out how to get a box. But it makes me feel better knowing I’m not alone.

Zo

Button arrived today and set it up so fast. I was hoping to have the box on Saturday but nope, have to wait for Monday. It’s not like I even need candy but I’m still super excited.

Do you live somewhere with USPS delivery of Amazon stuff on Sunday? You might get it a day early if you do.

No button yet for me. Oh well.

Marissa

At this point I’m just upset about this. Signed up when you first posted about it and STILL don’t have an invite! I have been prime for years and spend probably $100-300 a week on amazon. I want delicious sweets too :'(

Michelle

That chocolate bar is beautiful!! That said this doesn’t seem like a great deal to me.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

I signed up right away, also and have yet to get my “invitation.” I’ve been a prime member for several years and order all the time, so apparently that doesn’t matter!

Heather

We’ve gotten 3 boxes, all different, and have been happy with all of the contents! This box is less about high value for your money, and more about discovering small batch sweets that you wouldn’t find elsewhere. If you bought similar items on Etsy, you’d be paying just as much if not more with shipping.

I would think you would get more goidies in an 18 dollar box. I feel like its a lot for a little.

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

This box would have been an $18 total miss for me, which would have been even more problematic since it would not have even helped me with my chocolate craving! :/ Now that would have become an emergency situation!! 😉

ME

I signed up the 1st time you mentioned it – received my button last week and my box this week. Honestly, I’m not too thrilled and doubt I will order again. I received a small bag of chocolate popcorn, dark chocolate sea salt chocolate wafers, salty dog bite sample (same one you received in this box) and vienesse crunch toffee by sweitzer.

Zo

I signed up the day you first posted about the dash button and finally received the invitation email this week. The button will be here tomorrow and you can bet I will have that bad boy set up in 5 minutes with the first press. Can’t wait!

Reply ButtonReply

Christine

I signed up when I saw the first review. I got my email earlier this week to purchase the button. It arrived today.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

How long did it take for you to receive your invitation? I signed up the minute I saw your first review. This box is right up my alley.

Reply ButtonReply

michelle

I signed up a month ago and still waiting… I buy from them all the time too. Loyal prime member..

Chelsea Robbins

I signed up for the button on Jan 2nd, just looked back in my email to confirm. I’ve never gotten an email to join. I just clicked the link above to go check out the sweets page but got a message that my invite has expired!! If you submitted a request a long time ago and still have not heard from Amazon, yours probably expired, too.

We signed up the instant we saw the program launched – we got our invitation within a day or two. I’m not sure if they’re just testing it and only opened it to a small number of people, but I think a lot of people are still waiting.

There was an almost-all dark chocolate box that you reviewed previously which I would have loved! This box… all “no” for me personally. I think it’s too big of a risk with no customization unless you have a household with varied tastes!

Reply ButtonReply

Eric Cadman

Yes – and this has been our most adventurous box yet. I wouldn’t be surprised, if this box is successful, to see customization in the future.

Reply ButtonReply

Dea

So Eric, I cannot customize? Example: I don’t eat caramels. Can’t opt out of some types of candy? Please weigh in. Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Eric Cadman

Hi Dea – there is no customization for this box.
