Trunk Club Plus Size Subscription Box Review – January 2017

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. If you buy something, MSA may earn a commission. Read the full disclosure.

Trunk Club is a clothing styling service for both men and women. Subscribers work closely with their stylist to find a selection of pieces to try on at home, and they receive a trunk shortly thereafter. Trunks can be ordered as often as you like, so you can try it once, or have a trunk sent to you quarterly or monthly. Or even more frequently! There is a $25 styling fee which is credited towards whatever you decide to keep.

Trunk Club is a Nordstrom company, and they send similar brands that range in the $75-300 range. In the style profile, you can choose your preferred price range for each category (ie. $50-100, $100-200, or $200+)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Cost: $25 styling fee, credited towards any items you choose to keep, plus the cost of whatever you keep

The Products: Clothing, shoes, and accessories hand-selected by your stylist for you to try on at home

This packet was also included in my trunk. So first, a little more about how Trunk Club works. When I signed up, I took a pretty lengthy style questionnaire online. Then I was matched with a stylist, Kelly, who asked me even more about what I like and what I was looking for via an online chat. Based on this information, she selected five items for me to try on at home. She then sent me a link to preview all my items! This month I decided to try everything she selected.

This is a note from my stylist, Kelly. She explains why she chose the items she chose, but what’s important here is that she actually was available to chat online beforehand with me, and she references our discussion. I love this level of personalized service!

This is my invoice. It lists the items I was sent and the cost to keep each item. My $25 styling fee will be deducted from anything I decide to keep. There is also a reminder to provide feedback on their web site or app about how well each item worked for me.

On the back of the invoice are instructions for returning the items I don’t want to keep. I can drop my box back off at any UPS location, or I can schedule a free pickup through the Trunk Club app!

These items were also in the packet. When I’ve finished repackaging the items I don’t want to keep in the box, I just put this return label on it and use the tape straps to tape it back up! So convenient!

Raglan Sleeve Mesh Top by Bobeau – Cost to keep $49

I never would have picked this out for myself, but now that I’ve tried it, I absolutely love it! It’s true, I am partial to dark colors, but I’ve never had any type of raglan shirt that looked good on me. I’m seriously thinking I should keep this one.

Stripe Knit Jacket by Sejour – Cost to keep $99

This jacket is kind of perfect. It’s a knit material, but it’s still pretty sturdy and has structure. I didn’t think the light color (or the horizontal stripes) would work on me, but looking at the picture, I can’t really see why not. I like it!

V-Neck Sweater by Sejour – Cost to keep $79

This sweater is a super soft acrylic blend, and my husband really likes it. Unfortunately, I don’t like it. I think it’s too long, and this aqua color has traditionally been one of the most magnifying colors on me. I might be biased from previous bad experiences with aqua though, I’m not sure.

Knot Front Top by City Chic – Cost to keep $69

I like this chiffon top! It’s professional enough to wear to work, but just a little sexy. It’s a good length for me, too.

Peasant Top by City Chic – Cost to keep $69

I really like the design and the idea of this second chiffon top, and white is probably my favorite light color to wear. I wanted this to work really badly, but it just doesn’t fit right on me. (That’s the shirt sagging!)

Verdict: This was another great package from Trunk Club! I specifically asked for tops, and Kelly delivered some really good choices. I consider three out of five wins really pretty good, and I think that’s what I have here. I also love trying new things, and I was so pleasantly surprised this month by the mesh top. I am becoming a big fan of Trunk Club!

What do you think of Trunk Club? Have you tried them before?

  1. I think you are beautiful! I agree with the previous respondents that alterations are required. I also think it’s important that we but out fits. Being plus sized myself, I try to avoid horizontal stripes.

    • Awwww thank you Lydia! You are too sweet.

  2. I think some sleeve alterations would help you if the shoulders fit. Do you know if Nordstrom will alter it for you if you bring it back? A good seamstress can save an outfit from looking frumpy to perfection.

    • Thanks for the tip Judith!

  3. The mesh top looks amazing on you – you have to keep it!

I really liked everything except the last white top just because it didn’t fit quite right.

I think your stylist did a great job on this one! And you look great Anna!

    • Thanks Randi!!!

  4. I really like that aqua top on you!! I think it elongates you and with a nice pair of white capris…. Fabulous. I would wear the jacket with it too (IMO). I did vote return on the black chiffon but really looked at it again and think you should KEEP IT. OH and the mesh top I’m really digging it. I have box envy. Me wants.

    • Lol! Thanks nina!

  5. If you have a Nordy’s card, they waive the styling fee 🙂

    • BOOM! Thanks kendra!

  6. Great review. I liked the fit of the jacket but think a bright color would be better. I bright red would make that jacket pop on you. I also liked the aqua sweater on you but for the price I would like to see cotton or linen blend.

    • Thanks Connie!

  7. I love the knot top on you. The color is really nice. I also liked the peasant top until I read your comment and went back a second time and saw the sagging. What a shame! Thank you for bringing these videos every month. As a plus size woman I like to see that there are options out there.

    • Thanks Tammy! Agreed.

  8. I think you are right about the blue top… it just doesn’t scream “keep me.” It looks fine, but it seems very basic for the asking price. I love the peasant style top, but I see what you mean that it doesn’t fit correctly. The black chiffon top is amazing! It’s sooo flattering. I love the raglan sleeve shirt and the jacket- especially together! You got some AWESOME stuff and I’m so happy to see another review from you!

    • Thanks Shaunna! I’m happy to be reviewing them for you!

  9. I thought everything looked great this time EXCEPT the black shirt. To me, it looks like a ghee?? (hope that is correct). It looks like you are on the way to karate class. LOL

    • I agree. The blue sweater you can wear with leggings.

    • Lol, I thought the same thing about the karate class. The blue shirt looks great! The color and fit match you beautifully! And the jacket too. I love your reviews! 😊

      • Awww thanks so much Lunalee!

    • Thanks y’all!

  10. I think the light blue sweater looks stunning on you, and the fit is fantastic. Keep imo!

    • Wow, thanks Jess!

  11. ANNA. I’m obsessed with that city chic chiffon top! I think it’s my absolute favorite thing you’ve ever gotten in a box. Keep it!!

    • I agree! I was actually surprised to see so many votes for “Return it.” Maybe that’s partly because Anna said she didn’t like it? I personally think it looks great on her and wouldn’t mind having one of my own.

      • Thanks y’all! Wait, are we talking about the black one or the white one? Lol
