So Choix is a new way to try and buy makeup where we bring the makeup counter to you!” So Choix is a makeup sampling subscription service that sends you hand-made samples of brand name, beauty counter products. Each month, subscribers have the options to choose all or a few of their beauty samples or to be totally surprised. FYI - Choix now offers a “No Subscription”/a la carte option for those that want to try a few things without the commitment.

All the samples they send are hand-made from authentic full-size products and brand new sample containers. They use high hygiene standards and never even touch the product itself. This is a process which allows them to send completely uncontaminated products to you, which I really appreciate considering that the lipsticks and products sitting on some stores’ shelves have been touched and poked by hundreds of other people.

You can click here to learn more about how they make their samples.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

GlamGlow Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer – Full-size Value $49 for 1.7 oz

This is a new moisturizer from GlamGlow, and it has a dewy, shimmery finish! This stuff smells amazing and is made to add a universal nude glow to your skin. All of GlamGlow’s products have a TEAOXI/infusion of a specific ingredient, and this one has Golden Root in it, plus botanicals and vitamins to hydrate, brighten, and clarify. GlamGlow says this “blurs, reflects, and enhances your complexion.”

I love this moisturizer! I have dry skin so I love the extra glow and dew I can get from makeup and skincare, and this one does a great job.

Here’s a look at the moisturizer swatched, unblended. It really blends out to be just a nice glowy touch – perfect for under foundation and concealer.

Chanel Double Intense Ultra Wear Lip Color, Ever Red – Full-size Value $37

I love long-wear liquid lipsticks. This one is really nice! The formula is light and goes on smoothly without drying lips. But this lip color also comes with a clear gloss to wear over it once it dries. It works great! It lasted literally all day on New Years and I didn’t even need to touch up after eating. I’m thinking I’ll try this in a more everyday shade.

Clinique “Cheek Pop” Blush, Ginger Pop – Full-size Value $23

This is a gorgeous blush! It’s a very natural-looking color on, with a good amount of color payoff. It’s not very powdery so it doesn’t cake or look dry on my skin. I’ve wanted to try Clinique’s “pop” blushes since they came out and I’m happy that I like this so much.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator – Full-size Value $42

This is another product I’ve been curious about since its release: it’s a stick-form illuminator from Marc Jacobs. The cream stick formula is interesting to me because it’s less messy than liquid highlighters but more dewy/luminescent than powder ones. I love this! It’s convenient, very pretty, gives a gorgeous, dewy highlight without being sparkly, and a little goes a long way… it’s pricey, but so, so tempting to buy full-size.

Also, it didn’t come to me with gouges in it… That happened from my nails when I tried to open it. Fail.

Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer, Ivory – Full-size Value $70

This concealer is a lot darker than it looks online, even though it’s the lightest shade they had. It’s a shame because the formula is creamy and hydrating and has some good coverage. It’s just not one I can use.

Here are swatches of the highlighter, blush, concealer, and liquid lipstick.  I’m really happy with everything except the color of the concealer.

Sorry for the car selfie, but I realized I forgot to snap a picture before going to my New Year’s Eve party. I’m wearing everything here! I really love this blush shade and the lipstick stayed on all day and felt great. I know it might look a little uneven in this photo, but in person, it was really even and looked great. I can’t wait to try it in an everyday shade and never need to reapply!

Verdict: This month of So Choix let me try some products I’ve been wanting to check out for a long time, and find some new favorite products. I am seriously having so much fun with my So Choix subscription! I’ve been able to try so many brands that are new to me and/or aren’t sold anywhere convenient near me. I love that they have new releases, too.  It’s hard to do an exact cost-breakdown for this box because of the hand-made samples, but being able to try so many different brand name cosmetics and skincare products plus getting 250 points ($5 store credit) every month feels fun and worth it to me, especially considering my own lifestyle (toddler mom, living far from any kind of access to any of these).

What do you think about So Choix? Have you tried their service before?

I normally order or sign up for a month and then cancel right after because there are only 5 +samples that I really want to try before I die… Lol… I love the idea but for me a month once in a while is good for me. I do love when they throw in extra goodies… It’s those little things that keep me coming back. Their points add up quickly to when you do reviews too. I ended up getting 2 sample holders that has the mirror which is such a great really nice and needed when I get the powder samples. The plastic case that holds them normally ends up with me popping one or two out on to the floor or in the sink….. Anyway after reading your amazing review Haley makes me want to head over to see if they have the Tarte Tape Concealer in my shade yet…. I want to try it out really bad….
Pss… Your makeup looks Gorgeous and your skin looks so healthy and has natural glow too…

Oh yeah- I forgot about that Tarte Tape Concealer! It shockingly wasn’t available during Tarte’s last 30% off sale but I really want to try it too. There’s so many shades that I’ve got to try out more than one color I think.

I really like this sub and think the samples are a decent size, possibly even comparable to other subs minus the super pretty but ultimately cluncky packaging waste
and unlike other subs you actually get to pick EVERY sample….doesnt get any better in my opinion…except it does!!!….you can customise when your samples are sent, it doesnt have to be monthly!
However, im a little disapointed because I also picked out some items i wanted to try out for new years time (like the beauty glow stick!!) but i placed my order late (dec 25th) and still havent recieved it 🙁 … so i had to go into sephora to play with stuff there this time. Odd because in the past they have been super fast. :/

First off, I always LOVE your reviews, Haley! But, I wasn’t sure if you got the e-mail that So Choix sent out that said this, “Starting January 1st, So Choix samples will be accessible to members only.

This means that we will no longer have our $5 trial size samples available for a-la-carte purchase to non-members. In order to purchase So Choix samples, a subscription will be required, but we have 2 awesome options to choose from!”

So, anyone who isn’t a member in some way (Petite, Monthly, or Yearly) won’t be able to purchase samples ala carte, anymore. 🙁

I actually just signed up for So Choix and received my first box yesterday! I loved it! It took them a little longer to get it sent to me than what they say is “normal”, so they included a few extra free samples to go in my box. Their customer service has also been amazing so far. The e-mail I sent them regarding the delay in my shipping was replied to quickly and they followed up with every e-mail sent after that.

There was also a handwritten note in my box explaining why one of my samples wasn’t in there (it had become out of stock by the time my box shipped) and explained why they included the sample they replaced it with.

So, basically, I am trying to say that so far, I love this sub! If they continue this kind of service, then I will cancel one of my Play! subscriptions and stay with them for a long time!

I love me a good red but for my daily bold colors I generally do mauves and browns. 🙂 also – I totally get you with the queue. Mine has a crapton of products in it. I’ve had “surprise” boxes like you said where you don’t remember what your next 5 in line are, but I usually have seen some kind of product around or think of ones I’ve been interested in for a while. I do wish their queue felt less clunky. Maybe it’s my browser but when I drag and drop to re-order I have to drop, scroll, drag and drop, scroll… it doesn’t just make the page scroll up as I’m dragging, if that makes sense. It’s not terribly painful but it is time consuming.

I just tried this sub last month. I actually like it and was happy with size of the samples. I got to try some very expensive stuff that I never see in subscription boxes.

WOW! Ya look beautiful girl! Perfect colors for sure- I’d go for that red in a heartbeat. I really like this sub too. I stopped it in Oct but I like summer makeup collections more than winter/ holiday ones- so I’m thinking another month or two and I’ll resign.
Great review- THANKS!

Haley Faye

Thank you, Trisha! I agree – I like summer makeup collections more too. More tinted moisturizers, more dewy/glowy looks, more multi-tasking products, too, it seems… I love it all but summertime is more fun and carefree makeup time for me! Plus I feel like I can pull off bright/bold color eyeliners then too! So much more color to play with, I feel.

That lipstick IS a daily wear color for me. I think I will add it to my queue. I like the idea of the gloss — so many liquid lipsticks are drying.

I already have the Clinique blush in full size and like it. I also think the lightest CdP concealer isn’t the right color for me, having tried it in the past. I actually have no idea what is in my queue right now (just that there are about 6 months’ worth of items) so it is kind of like getting a surprise.
