Bear & Hare Snow! by Emily Gravett - Value $13.82 on Amazon (retail price $16.99)
Yay, a book by Emily Gravett! Emily Gravett makes such whimsical illustrations and stories. I’m a huge fan and this Bear and Hare book was perfect for December. My son and daughter both loved the sweet friendship of Bear and Hare and their adventures out in the snow.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss - Value $8.49 on Amazon (retail price $16.99)
It’s always nice to get a classic Dr. Seuss book and this one is a Christmas mainstay. The remade cover of this Grinch book is a shimmery deep red that’s so festive on our bookshelf. No matter how many times I’ve read about the Grinch both at home with my own kids and at school with my students I never tire of the great rhymes and the sweet lesson that maybe Christmas means more than just presents and ornaments.
The Spectacular Tale of Peter Rabbit by Emma Thompson - Value $17.41 on Amazon (retail price $20.00)
This is a stunning version of Peter Rabbit by actress Emma Thompson. Emma Thompson has taken the beloved character of Peter Rabbit and created her own original stories. Peter sneaks off to the traveling fair and of course trouble ensues. This is the third Peter Rabbit tale that Emma Thompson has written and I think I now need to purchase the other two to add to my collection. Included with the book was a CD of Emma reading the story and we loved listening to her voice.
Over the River and Through the Wood by Linda Ashman - Value $10.46 on Amazon (retail price $14.95)
Oh, how I loved this book! From the framed family portrait endpapers to the feel-good story it was a huge hit. Over the River and Through the Wood is a modern take on the beloved song. Numerous families are each traveling to grandma and grandpa’s house for an unspecified holiday. Some are traveling by plane, boat and even hot air balloon, but along the way problems arise and all get picked up by a huge horse-drawn sleigh for the final leg of their journey. As the aunts, uncles, and cousins are reunited the love they all share is evident. To me, the very best part of this book is that all kinds of families are represented. As a librarian serving a diverse population I strive to fill my shelves with books to which all children can relate and this book is a perfect example.
Verdict: The value this month was over $50 and is well over the cost of the box as usual! We continue to be so pleased with our Lillypost box each month. The books are always well curated, beautifully wrapped and represent a variety of topics, authors, and illustrators. I highly recommend this subscription to all book-loving families with young kids.
