Julep-January-2017-0008

This box came with a fold out sheet detailing the beauty item for the month and the new colors launched.

Now, onto the items!

Julep-January-2017-0005

First, Julep usually includes a bonus item like candy in every box! This is a total flashback candy item to my youth!

Julep Nail Polish in Belle - Value $14

Julep-January-2017-0018

This polish is a sheer iridescent shimmer. It's great for layering over different base coats, or you can go two coats for a more full-coverage look. (Two coats pictured in lower photo.)

Julep Nail Polish in Gabby - Value $14

Julep-January-2017-0015

This polish is a dark teal creme, and according to Julep, it has a  "ghost shimmer." If there is a ghost shimmer there, it's a pretty weak ghost - I'm only seeing a high-shine creme!

Here are both shades on:

Julep-january-2017-0021

(One coat of Gabby on the left, two coats of Belle on the right.)

These are both high shine polishes (yay!) and I'm happy with both selections. Belle is my favorite, though!

Julep Boost Your Radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Facial Oil - Value $36

Julep-January-2017-0012

This is one of my favorite subscription box discoveries of the month! It's a light, moisturizing oil that feels fabulous on my skin, and it absorbs pretty quickly, too. (Plus it has a light, sweet, citrusy scent!)

You can use this day or night in place of a serum, and you can even add a drop or two to a liquid foundation for a more dewy finish.

Julep-January-2017-0007

And this box also included a coupon for $10 off a $25 purchase!

Verdict: I'm happy with my nail polish selections this month, and really blown away by the beauty item for January. What did you think of this Julep Maven box? Which items did you pick this month?

Wow, I’m really impressed with Julep this first month. I received the 12 piece polish gift, so I decided to try out some of their makeup. My 12 piece set came immediately with a 50% off so I order their blush stick and the Julep polish of the year. They arrived within a week and are beautiful. For my monthly box I picked out a beautiful eyeliner and two of the eyeshadow sticks. My boxes arrived immediately and had a sample of the cleansing oil.

Why did I wait so long to join? Anyone have any all time favorite please share, or any tips for deals. I’m debating on try a lip color from them to.This community has been so wonderful and I’ve learned an enormous amount from you all. Thanks gang you all rock, especially you Liz!

I got the same box as you, Liz. The sheer color is also meant to be used to “transform” your creme colors. We put a coat on top of the green, and it’s really pretty! We’ve also tried it with a couple other colors, and they all look really cool

Thanks for the tip – I will need to experiment with it! 🙂

I got that 12-piece kit and it’s absolutely lovely 😊 I skipped this month as I bought the 10-piece mystery deal and the glycolic scrub.

I have to say I’m so impressed with Julep. The polishes I’ve tried so far are stunning and don’t chip like some of the more expensive brands I’ve tried. And they’re made in USA which is so important to me.

I’m so sad I didn’t try this brand sooner.

In your description of the cost I didn’t see the coupon code for the free box that you mentioned in the title of this review. Is that the “welcome gift ” that you mentioned at the end?

Liz Cadman

Yes, that’s correct. Sorry about any confusion!

I’m seriously in love with this face oil. I got the cleansing stick too. Also a really great find. I’d been taking a break from Julep because I got over saturated with polishes, but I signed back up again when I saw the oil.

I feel ya on the oversaturation with Julep. I am really starting to feel burned out by them. I love, love, love the product (the polish) but their colors seem to be lacking originality lately. Give me some holos! Give me bolder and brighter colors! How about some fun top coats (some of my favorite polishes from Julep are my confetti top coats).

So I’ve skipped quite a few months, although I did take January for the face oil and have really been enjoying it. One thing that is super nice about being a Maven is being able to add these expensive items to your box. I mean the oil for Joe-Shmoe who goes onto the site to buy it is almost twice the price I paid for my box and I got a polish and thinning drops in addition to the oil. You can’t beat that deal!

Same. It sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave that oily shine. It sinks in as well as a moisturizer. I’ve had some bad experiences with face oils as a oily skin girl but I love this oil from Julep.

I just signed up on the 27th (which I see is the billing date for the month). Does anyone know if I will receive January or February as my first box? Thanks!

Monique

I signed up last month and asked them if I get sent a choice with my first box. They said that normally the first box is sent out automatically, but they gave me a credit for February so I could choose my own products. So I waited the extra couple of weeks. They did send out my free 12 piece separately, so the wait didn’t feel as long. Thank god I did. They were going to send me TWO eyeliners and a lipstick that is not my shade. When in doubt..email them.

You might be disappointed to hear this, but your next box will actually be March. The window for picking February items closed about a week ago (20th – 24th of each month).

So you won’t be selecting your box until the end of February for a March delivery.

I am OBSESSED with that face oil! It makes my skin look and feel so good. Plus it’s going to last forever since you only use a couple of drops at a time. Definitely one of my favorite beauty box discoveries of all time.

Linda

Yesss!! I feel like all of their beauty stuff lasts FOREVER! Have you seen the size of those blush sticks??? I got the face cleansing balm when it 1st came out and havent put a dent in it, their liquid lipstick is soooo pigmented and long lasting i think mine wil become a family heirloom, orbital pans are enormous….and as a maven i feel like its drug store prices for products that are comparable to really high end lines.
The only things i feel are grossly overpriced (even as a maven) are polishes and the shower body oil. I looovvee the polishes, but only once have i never added one to my box. I usually just get them on sale. And my trick with the body wash oil is to mix it with a gentle body gel like j&j baby wash, cetaphil, or the almond french brand one…makes it turn milky when mixed which i think looks extra cool 😁. I didnt take a box this month bc i feel like they are on the brink of dropping a foundation, and i only have 1 box credit left…but if that oil is around when foundation comes=== dream box!

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but if/when they release the Foundation, you’ll probably notice you can’t do a custom maven box with both the Foundation and the Face Oil. You’ll have to pick one as an add-on to your box.

I tried to add the Face Oil & Lip Oil in the same box and it wouldn’t let me. It automatically changes your selections once you pick a “hero item”. Just like if you were to pick only polishes (tops & bases included), you’d get a selection of nail decorations after picking. I thought it was totally weird that it did that.

Not sure if it’s because I pre-paid for 6 boxes (reduced rate of 16.66!), or this is always something they’ve done. Although my box last month had no cards or candy in it. Not sure what’s going on there.

Kelly

I was thinking that too about the foundation but now I can’t remember why I thought that. : ) I only remember being excited about it. Lol.

Liz Cadman

Yay! So glad you love it, too! I’m definitely going to grab more next time Julep has a sale or add-on discount! 🙂
