Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review – January 2017

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. If you buy something, MSA may earn a commission. Read the full disclosure.

Birchbox Man is a monthly grooming and lifestyle subscription box for men. Each month, you’ll receive 3-4 sample size items to try along with another lifestyle item that you can select. The selection process opens about a month before shipping and, typically, allows you to pick 1 of 3 selection items.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Birchbox Man

The Cost: $20 a month ($16.25 a month with annual subscription)

The Products: Men’s grooming and lifestyle products.

Ships to: US only

Each box comes with a card detailing the inspiration around the box and lists out each item in the box.

W&P Carry On Cocktail Kit – The Old Fashioned – Value $15

Each month, you’ll be able to choose one of your items. Typically, you’ll have 3 choices of men’s lifestyle items. This month, I chose the Carry On Cocktail Kit.

Birchbox valued this kit at $15 – but the W&P site listed it at $24.

All of your items are in a tiny little bag.

It comes with everything you need, minus the alcohol, to craft 2 Old Fashioned Cocktails once you get your little bottle of bourbon on the flight.

Ursa Major Morning Mojo Bar Soap – Value $3-5? based on $14 full-size value

My value is really a guess based off of the 5oz full-size. There is no size listed on the sample bar, but I’d say it’s about the size of the soap you’d get at a hotel.

Ursa Major is one of my favorite brands, alongside Das Boom, that was discovered fully through subscription boxes. This bar features peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary – the small is strong and is sure to give you a kick in the morning.

R + Co Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste – Value $3.18 based on $28 2.2oz full-size item

There was only one hair product item in my box this month – and it’s a dry shampoo paste.

I’m used to the dry spray and have never tried a paste. Typically, I don’t like the texture that a dry shampoo spray adds to my hair – and the paste was no different. With all of that said, I still use it when necessary even if I don’t like the texture, so this is good to have around.

Olivina Lip Balm – Value $4

I got the Juniper Mint flavored lip balm – but the card seems to indicate that it may be possible to get one of the other flavors available.

In the winter months, you just can’t have enough lip balm! This is pretty basic and doesn’t have much of a flavor for me. Overall, I do like it and I’ll definitely use it.

DTRT Skin Saver Ceramidin Cream – Value $11.70 based on $39 50ml full-size item

There are two items from DTRT (Do The Right Thing) this month.

The first item is a facial moisturizer. It doesn’t have much of a scent but did work really well – this is definitely a sample that I’ll use up entirely.

DTRT Skin Smoothing Trio – Full Size $39

The last item is a 3-pack of single-use samples from DTRT. I’m starting to like this brand a lot, so getting a 3-pack of mini samples will be fun for me to test out more of their line!

Verdict: I’ve been enjoying Birchbox Man more and more – so I’m happy to see it in the mail pile every month. The monthly selection is a great feature as well – typically, the value of those items almost, if not fully, cover the cost of the box and everything else becomes bonus – almost always taking the risk of the box!

What do you think of the January Birchbox Man?

  1. Great selection, why can’t the women’s box have a “carry on cocktail kit” in her box, we like our cocktails too.
