My box included a one-page flyer promoting “One Stop Holiday Shopping.” And I couldn’t agree more that these six options would cross several people off my gift list!
I also received a booklet that beautifully elaborates on the six different Monthly Clubs subscriptions.
A newsletter was also included, describing each brewery for this month: Kannah Creek Brewing Company and Ipswich Ale Brewery. I am not familiar with either brewing company, so this will definitely come in handy as my husband, a friend, and I try the beers.
Now, I am by no means a beer connoisseur, so I was so happy to see such detail about each beer. It really helped in appreciating the brewery’s process and ultimately what we liked or disliked about each beer.
The first beer we tried is a citrusy 5.5% alcohol content American Pale Ale. I don’t usually drink pale ales, but really enjoyed this beer! It was stronger than anticipated, but you can absolutely taste the orange and grapefruit zest, along with a bit of the pine they describe. According to Kannah Creek Brewing Company’s site and the newsletter, this beer has won home brew and world beer cup competitions and I can see why.
Yay to Microbrewed Beer of the Month for sending another type of beer I don’t normally try but really like! This red ale has a 6.2% alcohol content and packed with so much autumn and winter goodness. The beer is smooth but you can taste caramel and hints of cedar. This was also my friend’s favorite out of the bunch.
Before receiving this box, I didn’t know what a Session IPA was. Simply, they have a lower alcohol content than traditional IPAs. This one, in particular, has a 3.9% alcohol content. Upon smelling this beer, grapefruit is apparent once again. It is a very smooth beer and while tropical fruitiness comes through, we did not enjoy this beer as much as the Standing Wave Pale Ale.
Lastly is this month’s hands down favorite beer! This oatmeal stout has a 7.0% alcohol content and is one of the best any of us have ever tried. You can taste a smooth blend of caramel, chocolate, and coffee. I want to drink this for dessert after a nice dinner – it’s sweet, but not overwhelming.
Here’s a comparison of all the beers. From left to right: Ipswich Ale Brewery S.I.P.A. (Session IPA), Kannah Creek Brewing Company Standing Wave Pale Ale, Kannah Creek Brewing Company Vertical Drop Robust Red Ale, and Ipswich Ale Brewery Oatmeal Stout.
Verdict: This was another great box from The Microbrewed Beer of the Month Club. For $42.95 a month (if you include shipping), you receive 12 beers, which breaks down to $3.57 a beer. While not a bargain, you would likely pay more for each beer out at a bar or sampling at the brewery itself. And I like how this subscription brings local and craft-brewed varieties straight to your home. 3 of the 4 beers were seriously good and I’m already trying to figure out how to get more of the Oatmeal Stout! We all enjoyed sampling each beer and now I know a few people to gift this subscription and the 5 other Monthly Club options this holiday!
