Bright Cellars just launched a monthly cheese subscription! (Bright Cellars began as a wine subscription. You can find reviews of the Bright Cellars Wine Subscription here.)

Since Bright Cellars in based in Milwaukee, they specialize in cheese from Wisconsin.

When you sign up for a membership, you take a “taste palate quiz” to determine your unique taste profile. Your monthly cheeses are then picked for you based on your quiz answers.

If you’re ever sent a cheese you don’t love, the Bright Cellars Concierge will help you select a free replacement that will ship with your next box.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Each cheese comes with its own info card.

I also received a print with a little information about Bright Cellars’ selection process.

Miavorno 2 Year Old White Wisconsin Cheddar (7 oz) - Value $8?

My first cheese match-up is a 2-year-old white Wisconsin cheddar. (I couldn’t find this cheese or the next one online, so I’ve estimated the prices based on similar products.) It’s smooth and creamy, and the flavor has just a touch of sharpness. I tend to prefer my cheddar really sharp, so this is maybe a bit mild for my particular palate. I think I’ll most likely use it to make grilled ham & cheese sandwiches.

Miavorno Cranberry White Wisconsin Cheddar (7 oz) - Value $7?

This cheese is fairly similar to the first one I received, except that it contains cranberries. It’s mild and a little sweet, and I think this would be a great addition to a holiday cheese board. (The cranberries are perfectly festive for Thanksgiving!) I also think this cheese would be fantastic on leftover Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches!

Sartori BellaVitano (5 oz) - Value $7.75

My favorite cheeses tend to be nutty and rich, and this one was basically made for me! It has delicious little crunchy bits in it (like you might find in Parmigiano Reggiano or aged gouda), but it’s also creamy with a buttery mouthfeel. I LOVE this cheese.

Pine River Swiss Almond Spread (7 oz.) - Value $3.50

The last cheese I received is a spreadable one that’s made with sharp cheddar, swiss, and almonds. This is not that kind of cheese that I usually buy, but I ended up really liking it! It’s tangy and a little sweet, and I thought it was great with crackers and fruit.

Verdict: I had a lot of fun with this box, and I think the BellaVitano might be my new favorite cheese! Looking at the cost of this box, however, I have to say that I think it’s a little pricey for what you get. (I feel I could easily go shopping at my local cheesemonger and pick out cheese for a lot less.) It’s also a lot of cheese, but with the holiday season right around the corner, I think this is the perfect time of year to keep some extra cheese on hand for entertaining. If you’re interested in subscribing, I’d recommend signing up with our link to get 50% off your first box.

This is really a very bad deal even with 50% off the first box. I thought there would be artisanal cheeses from speciality places I wouldn’t easily come across myself. But the 4 cheeses I received are readily available at regular grocery stores at only $4 each! I got Belgiogioso Asiago available at Walmart for $3.97 at the same size, Limberder retailing for $4.98 and Castello Gouda available at Meijer for $4.59. The max value of these cheeses is $20 so it’s not good value or access to anything exotic or gourmet. Also the box came in a destroyed package in a plastic bag with an apology note from the post office so that’s probably not the sellers fault.

I subscribed for two months, very excited to try new cheeses!! My boxes were filled with cheeses I could get at local stores (I live in northern VA), except one excellent quark the first month. The boxes were both packaged on Monday of shipping week, and arrived over a week later (they were not actually delivered to USPS for shipping until the Friday of shipping week). They arrived in horrible condition and made me sick the second month. I was so disappointed. Great concept – horrible practice. Had to cancel my subscription. I did find the company who manufactures the quark – they deliver out of state too!

Darn you Linds! My mouth actually started watering when I read about the Cran/Cheddar on a turkey sandwich–Drool is not an attractive trait! I worry when the cheese sent is not listed and unavailable to research, it makes it hard to compare costs or order if wanting more. I am wondering what profile choices influence their selection of cheese? Did you actually choose NUTS as your snack choice? Also, your food pics are the best on this site, they always look professional.

Cheese is like my favorite thing. But the calories! And living vicariously is just not the same thing…

White cheddar is my fave, too! I’m obsessed with Milton Creamery Prairie Breeze. In addition to amazing flavor, it has these calcium crystals that give it a fun, unique texture. I discovered it at a wine tasting, too! Truth be told, I always look forward to the snacks more than the wine! Haha! Too bad this box is so overpriced. I’d love to discover new cheeses, but I can do it for less at a local grocery store.

I love white cheddar!! I had an amazing one at a winery in Estes Park, CO, it was AMAZING! We ate the entire block while drinking wine lol.
