sg-beauty-box-october-2016-mask

The White by Josie and Hue (2 oz.) - Value $20.98 USD

This kaolin and bentonite clay mask is easily mixed with water into a paste and then applied to the face. I left it on for 10 minutes and then rinsed it off. My skin felt clean and smooth. Josie and Hue also suggest mixing the mask with other liquids depending on your skin type for varied effects. Oily skin: Water, Witch Hazel or Rose Water. Dry Skin: Heavy Cream, Honey, Apple Cider Vinegar, Sesame, Almond or Grapeseed Oil.

Coffee Scrub by JoeSCRUB - Value $5.00

There is nothing quite like a good shower scrub in my opinion and coffee scrubs are one of my favorites. I hardly ever drink coffee, but I love the smell of it. This scrub came in a pretty, gold, resealable waterproof pouch and with a wooden stick to help scoop it out. It smelled invigorating and the coconut oil and sweet almond oil left my skin feeling soft all day long. JoeSCRUB recommends using it on wet skin, then turning the water off in the shower while you allow it to sit on your skin for 5-10 minutes before rinsing it off. I’ve never tried this technique before with coffee scrubs and it worked well! I’m glad to see they sell this scrub in larger pouches because I can see I’ll need to buy more soon.

Tied Down Nail Lacquer by Deco Miami (0.17 oz.) - Value $11.18

This oxblood color is so on point for autumn this year. I’m going to bring it to the nail salon the next time I go get a pedicure. This polish is 8-free which is awesome if you’re looking to keep harmful chemicals out of your beauty routine. It looks like this bottle (0.17 oz.) is slightly smaller than the one the Deco Miami website sells (0.19 oz.) and this color is also currently sold out.

sg-beauty-box-october-2016-eye-cream

Cool as a Cucumber Eye Cream by Touch Me Skin Care (0.5 oz.) - Value $22.99

I wasn’t a fan of this eye cream. When I opened the jar, it actually had formed a “skin” on the top similar to pudding. It smells like a gin and tonic to me and I think it’s because the cream contains juniper berry plant oil. Rather than leaving my under eye area smooth my skin felt sticky and my finger dragged across the area as if the product left behind a residue. I believe this is from the Aloe Vera which is the main ingredient.

Feed Your Shine by Yarok (1 oz.) - Value $27.20

This hair serum added shine to my daughter’s hair and had an herbal chamomile scent. Only two drops was all it took to see results. This small glass bottle will last for quite some time.

Candy Floss Lip Scrub by Sudsatorium (0.88 oz.) - Value $5.71

Oh, Candy Floss Lip Scrub I do love you! This lip scrub smells like a cross between cotton candy and bubble gum. It is made with only organic ingredients and it leaves my lips flake-free and richly moisturized. I will definitely be buying more of this when I run out. And I have to say the Etsy vendor’s name “Sudsatorium” is pretty cool too!

Verdict: I am thrilled with my first S&G Beauty Box! Every single brand they sent this month was new to me, and I always love discovering new brands. It’s so nice to see a beauty box branching out to discover new companies. I loved the mix of products from masks and scrubs to nail polish and hair serum. Other than the eye cream I will use every single product and the value is outstanding. I came up with a value of over $93 which is fantastic for a natural beauty box.

This looks like a great sub! I’ll need to keep this on my list for when I cancel some others that aren’t natural or that joyful for me. Thanks for the review!

That lip scrub looks almost exactly like the Bubblegum one I purchased at Lush awhile back…. but at a far better price. Even though I can’t remember how much I paid, I know it was far more than $5!

I’ve been making a list of subs I’d like to start in January, and I had already put this one on my list to try. Next year, I’ll mostly be focusing my subscriptions on the natural/vegan/cruelty free boxes as they are the ones I get most excited about. I’m hoping to see future reviews of this box to solidify my decision. 🙂

Little bit surprised at the value given for the clay mask. I’ve purchased bulk bags of kaolin clay from amazon for the same price. (Last year I did homemade masks and scrubs for Christmas gifts, and I also made a coffee scrub. I got requests for more this year!) This box looks like it has a lot of homemade items in it, which I’m sure lots of people will appreciate!
