Awaken Box is a new subscription service that delivers handmade global artisanal goods and supports global charities.

"Our mission is to awaken hearts and minds to the needs of our neighbors across the globe and to support artisans in third world countries who are trying to sustain a business for themselves to simply survive." That's a noble mission. Bravo!

This card was included this month, describing Reaksmei Products in Cambodia, our artisan group for August. It also has some vague information about this month's donor / charity, a filmmaker involved in The Hotline Movie. It also lists the items I received this month.

This is our recipe of the month, Pakon Char Poat Koun. It's a yummy-looking shrimp dish with vegetables!

This scarf is lightweight and beautiful, perfect for early fall! These scarves are made by university students involved in Reaksmei in an effort to help low income community members.

I made the mistake of opening this box with my mother nearby. She totally snagged this headband! It's okay, though, she wears them all the time, and she loves all things Southeast Asia. It's very pretty, and it looks amazing in her white hair!

I love beautiful handcrafted chopsticks, and these are just lovely. I also love elephants! These are a total win! They're almost too pretty to use.

I love this bracelet, too! It's so unique! I just adore the dark red enamel. It's on a stretchy cord, but it seems nice and sturdy.

Verdict: This was my second box from Awaken, and I think they did a fabulous job! I like that they dropped their price! I also think they did a much better job this month of explaining what is meant by "donor" and who made the items in the box. I like feeling like a purchase I've made is supporting something important. I think the items this month were beautiful, too! No values are listed, and I can't find anything for sale online (which makes sense in this case), but I think I definitely got a lot for $30. What a great box!

I have subscribed and received both the July and August boxes. I love every item so far and I have no problem with the added extras. Each item is very lovely and useful. The customer service is very friendly and accommodating. I love mostly that this is a subscription box with a true mission. Kudos to the Awaken box!!!

I am going to try it for next month. I hope the box is equally as good. I think even if the bracelet was discontinued, the cause is a good one.

What a fun box! I would use everything in the box, and love that the chopsticks came with a recipe. Seems like a good balance of items they include. Might have to try this one out.

Great review, glad they dropped the price. The cookie lee bracelet seems completely off in this box. Cookie Lee was made in China and is no longer in business for over 2 years. The bracelet is pretty though and the value is great. I just wish they would not have placed a discontinued made in china item in this box. Seems to take a way from the curation and makes this box less special.
