If that’s true I will use everything except the lipstick. Good box for me 🙂

one thing that is a plus for me even if the sizes are small is—i can go and buy them ! with my ipsy and birchbox i receive some samples that i like and would like to buy more or a color that’s better on me or something like that. well with some of the online only/imported/indie/etc i’m stuck to ordering online. why would i want to pay s&h for one lipstick or eyeshadow when i can run to the store? of course i’m lucky i can get to major stores and sephora in ten mins so i’m have an instant gratification /patience issue i guess lol but i am more likely to to do that than order something i cant look at in person first.

I think Sephora playbox is the best the products are always good, small or not there are legit., I use to get Ipsy but some of the samples I received started to smell bad, I don’t trust Ipsy’s products at all, if your a Beauty Insider at Sephora you get points that add up for your subscription.

I feel the same exact way. Even if the samples are smaller at least they are from legit high end brands. I had ipsy for almost 2 years and really got tired of the crappy brands. I almost feel like people judge this box too harshly simply because it’s from Sephora. Put any of these samples in another subscription and people would love it.

Reply ButtonReply

Felisa

Yes…..this! I hated Ipsy except for the cute bags. Birchbox was just ok. With Sephora I love the brands so much more. Plus, I’m a perfume junkie and love that I get a sample of that every month.

Reply ButtonReply

Casey

I’m so tired of people hating on this box; I feel like I need to defend it!

Okay, yes. The samples are rather small. But they are of high-end products. I would rather have a smaller sample from a well-known brand than a full sized product from a company I’ve never heard of. I’m not familiar with the majority of brands Ipsy sends out and don’t feel as trusting that they’ll always be safe to put on my face.

Even though the sample sizes with Play are smaller, I have yet to finish one completely since I started subscribing. I am just started to finish samples from other boxes I received in May. At this rate, I will never need to buy another mascara, moisturizer, cleanser, exfoliator, eye cream, blush, etc., etc.

And the most important fact – it’s ten dollars. Are you really going to miss 10 bucks? I won’t. I could buy a $60 moisturizer that will maybe last 3-4 months, or I could get an endless supply of smaller samples AND get to try new products.

Speaking of new products, maybe you don’t like something in a particular box. Simple: swap it or donate it. Maybe you even dislike an entire month’s box. -Gasp! Again: swap it, donate it, or even sell that baby on eBay to someone without a subscription and make a profit.

So by all means, cancel away if this box isn’t your cup of tea. But I personally love it, and I know I can’t be the only one.

I concur!!! My husband complimented me on my hair the other day. The smell and how curly it looked…I can thank the Ouai spray! Never would have discovered it and the sample is so generous it will last awhile!!! LOVE Sephora PLAY!

Rosamunde

Well said Cacey!! So it took a month to get off the waitlist, big deal. I enjoy every bit of my Play Sub (and my Allure, Ipsy & Scentbird subs too)! I mean the postage just to mail an empty box is almost $10 & they send me stuff inside??? Heck yeah!! So I skip a lunch or dinner out once a month, or pass on yet another cute top that’s on Sale & get my beauty subs instead. (I have a very tight budget.) I love that I stumbled across MSA!!!❤. It’s definitely an addiction for me just reading the reviews & discovering new subs. Especially the past few weeks, as I’ve been mostly immobilized & homebound after an auto accident 3 weeks ago. Thank goodness for the Internet, Amazon 2 day delivery & the Internet!! ??

Agree !!! Even though you do not get full size items the values are true values. People actually spend those prices for the products in play. The products in Ipsy or boxycharm I do not find to be true values as the products can typically be bought at a high discount or they are from brands no one buys anyway. I also don’t understand everyone complaining about sample size, that eye balm will last me at least a month, a mini eyeliner will last months, the eyeshadow will last months (does anyone ever in finish an eyeshadow?). Plus I would rather try high end samples than full size products from brands I have never heard. I’m done my rant and I loved that eye balm from last month :).

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna

I agree with you! I’ve been subscribed since the first box, and there’s been something usable and interesting for me in every box. For instance, the Sephora brand makeup sponge/blender – got to try it out, learned I hated that type of application, and didn’t blow 20 bucks on a Beauty Blender, plus got some other samples.

My one critique is I wish they would mix up the makeup selection a bit and/or provide lip colors that are more universal – I don’t wear bright pink or red lipstick, so the Bite lipstick in hot pink wasn’t for me, but other than that, I’ve enjoyed the boxes so far. The Ouai wave spray alone was worth the $10 for July’s box.

I think people are missing the point in that these are high end products, it would cost an absolute fortune to send full size items out for $10. Also, the complaints about seeing the same products across subscription boxes – obviously this is going to happen when a company is launching a product, they’re going to place their samples with well known subscriptions.

Christine

Girl, I 100% agree! The people getting upset that they charge the card before the box is sent shouldn’t be upset or surprised. When you sign up for the box that’s exactly what they say will happen. I also don’t care if I see spoilers before I can skip because that’s part of the fun and point of a sub box! Not to mention if you use the products sparingly as directed they do last a long time! I love trying all sorts of amazing things I may not have thought to try or buy on my own. And for 10 a month it’s totally worth it. I love Sephora Play and have never been disappointed. Liked some boxes more than others but it’s always high end amazing WELL KNOWN brands! I don’t like Ipsy or Birchbox as I know virtually nothing about any of the products they put in. Sephora forever! Lol

Any update on the spoilers?

I’m definitely cancelling after I get this months box. The fact that they charge your card the first of the month, but don’t ship until very late in the month is annoying. They should not charge until the package is ready to go. Add that onto the fact that we never see spoilers until it’s too late to skip. Also, the itty bitty samples are not worth it. I like subscription boxes because I go on cruises often and I like to take samples with me. Sephora samples don’t last even a week. Too frustrating.

This month will be my third Sephora Play box. I was so excited. As soon as I heard about Sephora creating a box I went to sign up for it as I live no where near a Sephora. I was wait listed for what seemed like eternity. I swear the cloud parted and choirs sang when I got my email informing me my number had come up.

I’ve been severely disappointed with Sephora’s subscription box. Never would I of imagined that Sephora’s samples would be so tiny. I havent been wow’d by anything I’ve gotten in the past two months, heck last month as a few here have mentioned one of my samples wasn’t even a full sample. I’ve seen babies sneeze and produce more fluid than what came out of that tube.

I’ll be ending my subscription after this box. I signed up for Boxycharm last month, received my first box within a week of subbing and was far more pleased with the items I got. Five, full size products for 21 bucks verses the 11 (with tax) I pay for Sephora crumb teases. I truly am bummed about it as I was looking forward to trying brands that are exclusive to Sephora but I’ve decided my money is better spent with Boxycharm.

Rachelle

I agree, after being on the wait list for over a year I was so excited to receive the first box. It came, I opened it, what a disappointment! The next two boxes have arrived and with the exception of the Kat Von D eyeliner this month, I honestly want to send it all back. I am also disappointed in the little white bag that accompanies the products each month. It is make-up, honestly, I don’t know anyone who would choose a white bag to store colorful products! I just cancelled my subscription so a new spot is open! I don’t even mind that the products are small in size, it is the selections I have received that I do not like. This box and Glossybox have been the biggest disappointments compared to the others I receive.

Kay

“I’ve seen babies sneeze and produce more fluid than what came out of that tube.” Lololol! And “crumb teases.” BOL! No lies detected here. So funny!

Kay

I’m so glad I canceled last month! I only did 2 months, and both were lost in the mail because of a problem with the shipping label. To their credit, they replaced each one with a random box of samples which were sooo much better than the Play! boxes. When I finally got the first box in the middle of the following month, I was like “Wha?!” They took samples to a whole new tiny level. The box is only $10, but so is Ipsy that has some deluxe and full-size products.

Reply ButtonReply

Cammie

Yes I am about to cancel too, I am sticking to my Ipsy bag. At least I get full size products well at least 2 out of 5 of the items. Been with Ipsy 2 years now. Sephora samples are small, hate I have to wait till end of month to see what I am getting. Ipsy lets you know within couple days of them charging your card.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna

To be fair, they used to charge around the 9th of the month – I’ve been getting the box since the first month – and I typically received my boxes between the 18th and 20th of the month. They changed the charge date in the spring, around the time it opened up to a wider subscriber list, so it may be that they charge earlier to know how many boxes will be sent out and have more time to put them together. Birchbox is similar, they charge the 1st of the month, not when the box is sent out.

The box picture shows white bottles around it so it looks like a liner (we Seeger putting liner on obviously, mascara, lip stick literally cause it looked like a stick product, skincare product and nail polish? Or hair product cause she’s touching her hair in the picture. Who knows anymore and I agree all the themes are the same and pretty much the same products just different brands. I bet cause Sephora just launched a bunch of stuff don’t doubt one will be in it for sure.

LMAO! Your comment actually made me laugh out loud.

I was getting impatient too (especially in the last few days of August). But now that they’ve already charged my card, I’ve made peace with it. I hate not having been able to make an informed choice, but I’m stuck with this box either way now, right?

I think it seems like a good month. It all looks useful to me. Looking forward to spoilers.

I think a nail polish might be featured. Maybe a julep nail polish?!? I’d love to see that. Side note, I feel like the themes are the same each month, not sure why but it all feels the same.

Reply ButtonReply

Apark

I hope not Julep. I am not a fan of that nail polish. It chips within hours of me applying it and it’s never as opaque as I want. I’m going to hope for Formula X.

Reply ButtonReply

Kelly

I’ve been thinking the same thing about the themes!!

Raychel

I really hope our anonymous insider gets the inside scoop soon ? I love knowing the spoilers for the month early on and then dreaming about them and how I am going to use them for weeks until they arrive lol

YES! I’ve been checking for spoilers ever since I received this month’s box

Agreed!!! ??

it is totally the Kat von D tattoo liner, they are pushing that hard in the 500 pt box, and she just redid all of the lock it concealers

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna

I’d be surprised/annoyed if its the Kat Von D liner, that was in the March box. I’ve been subscribed since the first box, and I haven’t seen any repeats yet.

Reply ButtonReply

Khaleesi

I hope so! I love my Kat Von Danielle liner, but it died so would love another one without actually having to purchase it 😉

Reply ButtonReply

Christina Kim

I would be SO HAPPY if it was a black Kat Von D liner!

Khaleesi

Not Danielle.. ?

Autocorrect can be so wrong, so harsh sometimes lol

Just so people interested in this sub know, I just received a different box than the one showing on my account page. When I emailed customer service, I was told that what shows up on your account page is not guaranteed to be what you receive. I got the box w/ the Caudalie. My account shows the other box. Also, I had emailed to find out what happened to my box, as it was shipped on the 12th. On the 19th the shipping date changed to the 22nd. CS kept telling me it would arrive on the 22nd after I already said it didn’t arrive on the 22nd. Then changed to the 26th. Cancelling!

Reply ButtonReply

Kristen

My box came very late last month as well! It said it “shipped” on the 12th but did not arrive until the 24th. I was tracking it and it went all over to different post offices, very weird. I have not been that impressed with the boxes so far. This box doesn’t seem exciting to me at all, and honestly I’m very close to canceling. I have gotten so many products that I’ve received in the past as freebies or with points. Getting a little annoyed.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica Nelson

so I had an issue with mine not receiving a sample listed in the box, I emailed them and they sent me 100 point reward as a consolation. They should give you a reward as well if you let them know what happened!

Reply ButtonReply

Melly

Idk, but I do recognize the model in the images and video from America’s Next Top Model, haha!

Dana

Does anyone know how to cancel this box? I’m not really loving it. I’ve been hesitant but I just don’t think it’s worth it to me. Any help would be appreciated. Btw I did look on the play! Site but couldn’t find how to cancel. Need help!!

Reply ButtonReply

Kia

I’ve been really underwhelmed with all the boxes I’ve gotten from them. I’m considering cancelling but wanted to see what was in the box this month. I know it says deluxe sample sizes but holy cow they are tiny. I get Birchbox and Ipsy too and their products are much better sizes. I know they aren’t always as high end but I like that I get at least 1 full sz product and can get more than 1 time use. I did like that last month the products were able to be used together but they were just so tiny. Am I just spoiled by my other subscriptions? Also I’ve been thinking of cancelling all 3 and getting Boxycharm instead.

@Dana – You might have missed it under the FAQs, but here’s Sephora’s policy for cancelling the subscription:
Q: What is the cancellation policy?
A: “You may cancel your subscription at any time by following the instructions on your My Account page or by calling Customer Service at 1-844-PLAY-HLP. As of May 1, 2016, cancelations must be made before the first of the month to affect the current month’s box. If you cancel after the first of the month, you will be charged for and receive that month’s PLAY! by SEPHORA product box, which will be your final one. For example, if you would like to cancel and not receive the May box, you must do so by April 30. There is no cancelation fee, and we’ll be sorry to see you go!”

(If you sign in to your Sephora account, go to My Account, scroll downward to Play by Sephora section, and you’ll see the “Update or cancel subscription” link.) HTH

I think the lipstick looks like one of the new MAke up Forever ones. They just relaunched their whole lipstick line, so that would make sense.
