“Blue Royalty” Matte Blue Lipstick (full size) – Value $14.99

Every month so far, Glamorous Chicks has sent an email (at varying dates ranging from the end of the previous month to a week or two into the current month) asking subscribers to pick three items from among certain categories (covers most of the makeup on their site). I chose this for two reasons. One, I figure there’s no point in subscribing to a box like this if you don’t go for the crazy colors once in awhile, and two, I was really in the mood for blue everything the day I chose this. It has a little bit of a purplish undertone to it, which you can see in the swatch on my arm. In general, I find their lipstick formula to be pretty good – long lasting and non-drying.

Cosmetic Glitter in “Caribbean Blue” (5 g) – Value $14.95

I usually use the glitter from Glamorous Chicks in manicures instead of on my eyelids (glitter shadow seems a bit dramatic for my regular job at a law office…). I think this color is just beautiful.

Shimmer Powder in “Teal” (2.35 g) – Value $14.95

More blue! I actually chose a slightly different color (“blue diamond”) but I guess it was out of stock. I have to say, though, that I think this alternate color is beautiful and it’s actually one of the closest colors to my original choice they make, so I’m happy. (Substitutions happen sometimes. This is a small company and things go out of stock. But they do a good job of choosing alternates when that occurs.) I think this will be a good accent color for me, and I do really like the formula.

Absolute New York Makeup Cleansing Tissues with Fresh Aloe Extract (33 count) – Value $3.99

The sign-up page for this beauty box indicates that sometimes you will receive other brands of beauty products. They do have a little alcohol in them so be careful using them around the eye area, but they have lots of nice plant-based ingredients as well. This brand is new to me (apparently it is a sister brand with Nicka K New York) plus wipes are definitely useful and I was almost out, so these came at a good time.

Da Vinci USA 100% Human Hair False Lashes (#46 black) – Value $2.41

I haven’t got the faintest idea of how to apply false lashes (was recently told in an online forum that Sephora offers a class in this?). But, these do fit with the overall style and aesthetic of the Glamorous Chicks Cosmetics site, and they’re only a small fraction of the value of the box. Plus I was probably overdue for some false lashes as it has been several years since the last pair I received in a subscription box…

Here are swatches of, from top to bottom, the glitter, the shimmer powder, and the lipstick. No primer under any of them, and just swatched with my finger or directly from the lipstick tube.

I’m not really wearing Goth face powder here. I just had to use the Photo Booth app on my laptop to take this photo since my husband wasn’t around to take one with the camera. Anyway, this is what the lipstick looks like when it’s on.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $51.29 for this month’s Glamorous Chicks Beauty Box. That is pretty good for a $25 beauty subscription box! Naturally I am happy with the makeup items as I selected them (or in one case, are very similar to an item I selected). If you think this is a site you would order from often, the subscription is probably a good deal – they sometimes have purchase limits on items from their shop and the subscription would be a good way to get around that, and to get the items for a little less, as well. I find the formulas of the cosmetics to be pretty good and the pigments and colors are so fun to work with. I also like that they really seem to want their products to work for women with all different skin tones based on the foundation colors and models on their site.

I’m digging the blue. I have a couple “crazy” lipstick shades and they definitely make me feel adventurous when I wear them. Also…good mood boosters!

I love that you go outside the box and order all these fun colors! I have always wanted a blue lipstick, but have no clue where I would wear it. That blue eye shadow is stunning!

Thanks. I figure there is no point in always getting “normal” colors of makeup with this box (I do sometimes, though). It wouldn’t really showcase the possibilities!

You can also have fun with it. I see the colors and glitter being classy Halloween goth! Even if just handing out candy
