This is the info card that came in the package, listing out all the contents.

When I signed up for Cairn, they asked me to do a huge questionnaire for customization purposes. It asked questions about the types of outdoor activities I like, and I chose hiking, camping (car), backpacking, and yoga. They had loads of options, though, like rock climbing, moutain biking, fishing — just about everything I could think of! They also asked a few lifestyle questions (kids? dogs?) plus basics like t-shirt size.

All this leads me to believe that contents may vary from subscriber to subscriber, so if you subscribe but get different things, please let me know!

Go Move Yoga Mat Sling by Manduka – Value $20

Hooray for yoga mat slings! This is a really nice one, too. You can control the grip so that it doesn’t slide around on the mat or let it unfurl in transit. I love it!

Yuni No-Rinse Body Cleansing Foam – Value $8

I’m pretty impressed with this little cleansing foam. It absorbs quickly, has a light, fresh scent, and does not leave a sticky residue. It has neem and aloe in it, which are both great for the skin, too.

Manduka Yoga Mat Wash – Value $5.71

I have about 700 bottles of yoga mat spray waiting to be used, but this one might be my favorite scent of all of them! I love the fragrance of both ginger and lemongrass, they are so energizing!

Bounce Protein Energy Balls – Value $5.96 ($2.98 each)

These little snacks are relatively low in added sugar, high in protein, and fortified with mixed tocopherols (natural vitamin E), so I gave them a try. The vanilla almond one tasted amazing! It tasted like marzipan! Yummy! My husband had the lemon coconut one. He said it was good but not lemony enough. I suspect it would have had to have been an actual lemon for it to be lemony enough for him, though!

Usually we get an envelope from Cairn with lots of coupons in it, but Cairn recently switched to a card with all the promo codes printed on it. That’s so much more handy and eco-friendly!

Verdict: We love our Cairn subscription! That being said, I think I’m going to go back and change my questionnaire to remove yoga from my list of activities. I think both of the yoga products I got this month were great, but I already get yoga boxes, and I need my camping and backpacking swag from Cairn! This month’s value adds up to about $40, which is great for a $25 box, and is about what I’ve come to expect from Cairn. Their values are consistently good!

Do you subscribe to Cairn? What are your outdoor activities? What did they send you?

  1. I got totally different stuff for camping/backpacking. I love these cooking tongs they sent and they come apart to double as a spoon and fork. Also a little spice canister for backpacking. Something I wouldn’t have bought but I have already used it and it was nice to have salt and pepper and seasoning in a lightweight pack.

  2. This month was my 2nd Cairn box and I have my preferences for camping, disc golf, and hiking type activities. I got a totally different set of items than you!

    August 2016 included:
    BlackStrap Daily Sleeve
Light my Fire FireSteel Scout 2.0
onXmaps Roam App Membership (1 year)
    Chapel Chaco Bar

It was better than my box from last month, so I cannot complain 🙂

  3. August 2016 my first box. I received Hydaway collapsible bottle, Skratch powdered drink mix (one) and fruit chews, Inova LED squeeze light (10 hour) clips to your jacket, a sample tube of Aloe Up Pro 50 sunscreen and discount codes for 20% off of Hydawaybottle, Skratch and

  4. I signed up for Cairn to get outdoor hiking and camping items. Last month, I got a box of trail running items. At first I was disappointed because they were items I already had or had tried. I updated my profile after that and put only a few interests – camping, hiking, and horseback riding (would love to see what they send there!) Meanwhile, I did more trail running than hiking/camping and managed to use EVERY item from my July box. My June box is still half used. My August box has a water filter, some stretchy cords, a fire thingy, and snacks. I subscribe mainly to build up my outdoor stash. I do really appreciate the coupons they send and that their online shop has items from other interest boxes.

  5. My box was COMPLETELY different, likely because I listed rock climbing as an activity. Got some rock climbing chalk (new brand, so interesting to try), a chalk bad (already have, as would most climbers, but I can give this to my son), and a caribiner (can always have more, but I will be checking out the brand for quality). Together, these are much more impressive and added up to more value (I think) than the box reviewed here. In general, I”m neutral fan of the monthly boxes, but I have been BLOWN AWAY by the quarterly Cairn boxes.

  6. My August Cairn was completely different. I don’t have yoga on the list, which is good, since like you I have straps and pad sprays already. This month I got a flat picnic kit (cup, bowl and plate that pack flat and you fold and snap together), three round snap containers that open one handed and will be good for small gear, spices, soap holders. There was also a silicone food-grade tube (great for mayo but also for sunscreen, camp soap) and a tiny clip on multi-tool. Not my favorite box but I’ll use it all and love Cairn.

    • This is the exact same box we got. It was only my second month, I was kind of disappointed, didn’t seem up to par for the box I saw prior to joining.

  7. This was a fun review to read. The Bounce foods sound really good. Looking online they seem to have a bunch of good flavors. Now to see if I can find any locally to get singles!

    • I’ve seen the bounce balls at Trader Joes before, in case you’re still looking!
