Evergreen Falls by Kimberley Freeman – Value $10.99

Book Summary from Amazon:

From internationally bestselling author Kimberley Freeman comes a captivating new novel about a scandalous attraction, a long-forgotten secret, and a place where two women’s lives are changed forever.

It’s 1926 and Violet Armstrong is a waitress at the grand Evergreen Spa Hotel, where Australia’s glitterati are spending a winter vacation. Among the guests who remain are Sam and Flora Honeychurch-Blacks, a wealthy brother and sister ensconced in the hotel for an extended stay. Violet and Sam have an attraction that is as passionate as it is forbidden as the hotel closes down for the winter season. When a snowstorm moves in, trapping them all, no one could have imagined what would unfold. The group must let their secrets be buried by the snow, but all snow melts, exposing the truth beneath…

Eighty-eight years later, Lauren Beck takes a job at a café in the Blue Mountains, built as the first stage of the Evergreen Spa Hotel’s return to grandeur. There she meets Tomas, the Danish architect overseeing the project. As their budding relationship grows, Lauren discovers a series of passionate love letters dating back to 1926 that allude to a whirlwind affair—and a tragic secret. Lauren begins to unravel this long-forgotten mystery, but will discovering the truth finally make her brave enough to take a risk that could change her entire life?

Inspired by elements of her grandmother’s life, Kimberley Freeman has created a complex tale of mystery, heartbreak, and love that will keep you guessing with every twist until the very last page.

Black Tie Market Champagne Bubbles Lathering Sugar Scrub – 2.5 oz Value $5

A sugar scrub inspired by pink champagne?! I love it!

litcube-june-2016-scrub

The scrub itself is gentle, I like the scent, and I was happy to see that the fragrance used is phthalate free!

litcube-june-2016-candy

Sugar Daddy Milk Caramel Pop – Value $.50

Each box always includes a “snackable.” At first I thought this was just a random candy selection, but apparently, the Sugar Daddy candy was invented in 1925!

litcube-june-2016-magnet

Great Gatsby Quote Magnet – Value $2.95

litcube-june-2016-pillow

Great Gatsby Quote Pillow Cover – Value $19.95

I like that they are thinking outside of the box with bookish items! This pillow case is definitely unique. I’m not sure if it goes with our home decor, but Buckles seems to like it!

Verdict: As always, I think the curation and theme for this box are excellent. In my opinion, LitCube really is the master of the theme as far as book boxes go The value for this box comes out to about $52, which I think this box is still a good deal for $30 a month plus shipping.

  1. As a reader and an English teacher, I’m really bothered by the fact that the quote on the pillow is attributed to *The Great Gatsby* while it’s actually from the short story “The Sensible Thing.” Maybe I’m being a bit anal but I don’t really want to use or display something that is inaccurate. It makes me wonder what other inattention to detail is slipping through the cracks at LitCube and other subscription boxes. Does LitCube’s founder check items carefully? Is she familiar with the tests used as inspiration for each box? I emailed her concerning the pillow cover but got no reply.

  2. I love LitCube and agree they have the most interesting book box out there!

  3. I love Kimberley Freeman!

  4. This book looks like a cute read. I think i will have to add it to my to read list!

  5. Love Lit-cube! Always-nice curation! Loving Buckles too?!

    • Thanks! Buckles is my go-to photo prop 🙂
