Dia & Co. Subscription Box Review – July 2016

Dia & Co. is a monthly clothing styling subscription service for plus sizes. When I signed up for the service, I filled out a fairly in-depth questionnaire about my likes and dislikes, my size, my price range, and other questions that might help my stylist. Every month my stylist sends five pieces for me to try out. The service fee is $20 per month, but that fee is applied to any item I decide to keep. Additionally, there is a 20% discount if I decide to keep all five pieces!

Check out our Plus Size Clothing Subscription reviews to see all the different subscription box options!

FYI – My items are reflective of my style and price preferences, so your package from Dia & Co. may be completely different!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Dia & Co.

The Cost: $20 Styling fee (Pay for whatever items you keep minus the $20 credit)

The Products: 5 plus-size clothing items selected for you based on your Style Profile.

Ships to: US Only, shipping is free both ways

Good to Know: I now have first-hand experience, Dia & Co. DOES price match! So if you like something and want to keep it, but find it for less somewhere else, Dia & Co. will sell the item to you for that price.

This is the note I received from my stylist this month, Stephanie, explaining why she chose each item. Spoiler alert: Stephanie is getting really good at this.

This is the invoice for the items they sent this month. It shows each item and the cost to keep, plus the cost of the items totaled. Then at the bottom it shows the total with the styling fee credited and the 20% discount for keeping all five items. The discount this month would be $75.38 if I kept all five items. That’s a deep discount!

Fashion to Figure Floral Kimono – Cost to Keep $34.90

Kut from the Kloth Catherine Boyfriend Shorts – Cost to keep $79

I really liked the cut and fabric of this kimono, and I liked the way it looks on me, but I just wan’t wild about this pattern. I had to send it back. The shorts, on the other hand, were perfect. They fit like a dream, perfect wash, perfect amount of distress, loved them, kept them.

Skyler Dress by Madison Leigh – Cost to Keep $78

I guess I just don’t like any orange tones on myself. I also have already asked Dia & Co. to stop sending me sleeveless and cap sleeve items, so I made a point about this when I went back in to rate my items. I didn’t like the fabric either, it was kind of stiff, synthetic material. This dress had to go back.

Delancey Top by Oddi – Cost to Keep $48

I love this top! I love the colors and the pattern, and I just absolutely adore the detailing on the back. Plus here are some more views of the shorts. That’s my kitty, Shadow, by the way, photobombing.

Kyra Top by Oddi – Cost to Keep $37

This was my favorite piece in the box! It arrived just in time for the 4th of July, and it was perfect. I loved the colors and patterns! I also prefer the feel of nice, natural fabrics, and this top was super soft.

VerdictDia & Co. is one of my favorite subscription boxes! It’s true that it took a month or so for them to get my style down, but lately they have been sending me lots and lots of good stuff. I kept three pieces this month and would have kept the kimono if I liked the pattern more. I also love that Dia & Co. kind of makes me step out of my comfort zone and try new things. It’s awesome!

What do you think of Dia & Co.? What pieces did you get this month?

  1. I’ve tried Dia several times now and I just haven’t had much luck with them. The clothes you got were cute, but I’ve had that dress experience with their clothes several times…very cute out of the box, but the quality is awful–cheap. Their prices can’t be beat, but I’d rather spend more money and get quality pieces that I’ll be able to wear for several seasons. I’ve had a lot more luck with Plvsh Style, but I still feel the need to try these guys out every once in a while! Thanks for modeling everything, Anna. It really helps to see each piece on a real body!

  2. Thank you so much for modeling the clothes!! I really like the items you received. I think it all fit you and conplimented you nicely. After months of boxes and extensive feedback on my part (which included a Pinterest page with almost 200 pins), I gave up on Dia & Co. They consistently sent sleeveless clothes (refuse to wear), $60-$75 black leggings (in what world??!!!), and rarely sent me anything reasonably priced. Seeing your clothes and price point makes me want to give them another shot but it was such a hassle and several $20 down the drain.

    • Laura-

I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Dia too (you can see part of my most recent struggle in the comments below). I sent a long email to customer service and requested a serious consult with a stylist before my next box. They really seem open to working with customers. So, maybe try that?

      • Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

  3. You look great modeling everything Anna! So pretty. I really love seeing a real person in the clothes. Thank you!

  4. After everyone’s feedback yesterday, I took some time out to write a fairly lengthy email to Dia & co. expressing my frustration. I got a reply this morning (about 16 hours later – really good turn around IMO) and wanted to share it with everyone:

    Hi Jessica,

Thank you for reaching out and I’m so sorry to hear that you haven’t had a consistently wonderful experience!

I was just reading through your feedback and your styling profile and I know we really did miss the mark here. This is obviously the opposite of the experience we want you to have, and your items were not as personalized as they should have been.

We’d love the chance to turn this experience around for you, so I’ve credited your account $20 to cover your next box’s styling fee. I’d be happy to set up an email exchange with one of our senior stylists so we can really dig deeper into your personal style and what you’re looking for in your next box!

Again I really cannot express how sorry I am if some of these boxes have been let downs for you. As a young company we take every criticism and piece of feedback very seriously, and are constantly looking for ways to improve, so we truly do appreciate your comments. I hope we’ll have this chance to make this up to you. I’m here to help, so please do not hesitate to get back in touch with any questions or concerns.

  5. OMG I got some of the same items. I agree with you that the dress was described as “red”, but I saw it more as orange, which I hate. Oddly, I LOVED the dress on me and although you didn’t like it, I think it looks terrific on you. I’m weird about my arms, so I used a turquoise-ish cardi from J Jill that picked up the subtle light blue and it worked great. That kimono is awesome, I wish they would send that to me. I signed up for another box which is arriving this week; I specifically asked for jeans but i don’t see them on my “item” list….hmmm. Only my second box from them so we’ll see how it goes. You look beautiful!

  6. I have so much to say but I’ll keep it short! First, my hat’s off to you Anna for modeling. After reading your reviews all this time, it’s great to finally see you & I think it really helps a lot of people to see the clothes on a REAL person! 🙂 Also, you are so pretty and the clothes look great on you! Also- your cat is awesome mirroring your pose! (It’s almost like she’s magic?) We get a two-fer 😉
Personally, I never wanted to show my legs (sturdy piano type) but a couple years ago I said to myself- I want to wear cute capri pants & skirts! So now I do- and I don’t think anyone cares! Now they’re a staple in my wardrobe and love wearing them.
So that said, the sleeveless dress looks fantastic on you! I realize the fabric/color didn’t work for you, but I hope you wear sleeveless in the future because a lot of people here including me think you rock it! (ps. maybe you could carry a lightweight scarf as a wrap, or lightweight sweater- just in case.)

  7. Style wise I really like the kimono, shorts and tee. They are all really cute!

The top with the cutout shoulders looks great on you (I,p personally, stay away from cutouts because I am super short and those things never seem to line up on me right). The sheath dress actually looks good on you – you just look miserable in it. ;-). And I always think no matter what someone else thinks you have to like the way the clothes look and feel or it just won’t work.

I really like the black tank you are wearing with the kimono. It looks like it has an interesting texture.

  8. Can I be weird for a sec and say that your butt looks really cute in those shorts?

thanks for modeling them, I think we’re similar sizes and builds so it really helps to see what the clothes look like on!

    • Asha, I was thinking the same thing but I wasn’t bold enough to say it!

  9. I love that Shadow was facing away from the camera just like you were in that shot. Too cute! LOVE the shorts, kimono and tops. I may have to give Dia another shot.

    • Me and Shadow looking away together was my favorite part, too. 🙂

      • Shadow was sitting there, thinking “wut we looking at?” – such a cute picture!

  10. You looked great in everything. The dress cut was perfect for you. I’m funny about my arms showing too, but that dress worked well on you. I’m happy to see that you try them on for us. I’m about your size and it really helps to see how an item flatters a shape like ours. They did a great job picking your items.

    • Thank you Bonny!

  11. Um, Anna, that dress looks amazing on you!!! Everything looks great, actually! 🙂 Love when you guys model the clothes for us!

    • Thank you H! I think it’s a rule that every woman has to have some part of her body she’s unhappy with, right? 🙁

  12. I like the orange dress on you! Also, all the best cats are named Shadow. 🙂

    • Thanks chris! We inherited Shadow from our neighbors when they moved away, and she had some cool Sanskrit name before, but we are so dumb we always thought she was being called Shadow, so that’s her name now. 🙂

  13. I love the gray shirt in the last photo, it’s super cute!!

    • Thanks! It’s actually light blue? But I guess it does look greyish in the picture.

  14. Cute cute cute 🙂

    • Thanks Krista!

  15. Thank you for modeling the clothes it makes the review so much more fun because we get to see how the clothes actually look on. You’re so pretty! My favorite is the Skyler dress, it’s a beautiful color, very flattering on you. I’m curious what shade foundation you use my skin tone and hair color is almost identical to yours, we even look alike! We even share the same name! 🙂

    • Forgot to add that it’s too bad you didn’t like the dress I think orange does look good on you.

    • Thanks Anna! That’s so funny! Please don’t laugh, but I have really sensitive skin and I’ve tried every foundation on the planet… the only foundation that doesn’t cause me problems (for whatever reason) is regular old grocery store Maybelline. Buff beige. In this picture I’m using the kind that comes in a stick. LOL!

      • Thank you for your reply I’m going to try it! And I’m actually glad to know it’s from Maybelline, I love their eyeshadows. It’s funny, I’ve tried ALL the drugstore brands in search of a good match for my skin tone EXCEPT Maybelline lol! Keep up the good work I love reading all your reviews.

  16. Ugh. You are so lucky. My july box was a hot mess. 2 long-sleeved tops, a long sleeved BLACK maxi dress, and black wool slacks. Seriously. I kept one of the tops because it was cute and I didn’t want to lose the $20. This is maybe the worst box I’ve ever gotten.

    • Oh no! I’m sorry! If you email customer service and complain, they will send you a “make-up” box…

      • Sadly, I tried that. They told me “no do-overs”… I had a similar problem with a box last fall. I’m actually planning on emailing and requesting another phone consult with a stylist. I put a lot of energy into my pinterest board and they don’t seem to look at it.

    • Where on Earth do you live? Winter clothing?

      • Las Vegas. I’ve made multiple notes in my profile to NEVER send me long-sleeves or black clothing. I can handle a 3/4 in the cooler months, but that’s about it. I also have an entire Dia pinterest board dedicated to fashion and my wants. Not to mention multiple notes that I’m spending all of August in Thailand, so “please send light, tropical weight fabrics and pale or pastel colors for my travels.”
Seeing Anna’s box (which is amazing!), makes me even more frustrated. I just sent them a super-long email.

      • I mean… seriously. I would have killed for the shorts, kimono, and dress in my box. If they would have fit, I would have kept all 3 pieces, packed them up and called it done. Now I have to actually SHOP for travel clothes!

      • I’m sorry Jessica, that is really frustrating. You should kick it up a notch with their customer service, for sure. If you have things on your Dia profile like, “Never send long sleeves,” and they send them anyway, I think that qualifies as an error on their part that they need to make up for. Good luck…

    • I think it is really hit or miss with this company and with which stylist one gets. I have gotten a box twice; once about a year ago and once last month. Both were almost opposites of what I asked for. I wish I could send a picture of some of the atrocities sent. I asked for bright colors, got black, gray and olive. Asked for no tunics, every top I received was tunic length. Especially in my second box, after complaining about the length of the tops, you would think they would have made a bit of effort, but nope. Tunics. I also received work pants in the summer (I’m a teacher, and requested shorts and skirts). The thing is, I love shopping for other people, and this company sounds like it could do so well, if they just paid attention!

  17. Anna, you’re gorgeous!! I can really see you settling into the modeling thing, and I think it’s absolutely fantastic! Rock on with your bad self! Thanks for a wonderful review. That last outfit is, indeed, perfect for you!

    • Thanks Sarah!

  18. Great review! You look fabulous in everything and I love the evolution of your facial expressions in these photos: afraid of the camera then silly then sexy vixen (times two!)

    • LOL! Thanks Annie!
