The Revisionist #1 - Value $3.99
When I do a Blindbox review, I read the first 5 or so pages of a comic to get a sense of the story. This one was one I couldn't put down. I highly recommend it from this group - it was my easy favorite of the month!
New series! How far would you go to save reality? Martin Monroe is The Revisionist—a time-traveling assassin tasked with repairing our fractured timeline. Forced to place his trust in his estranged father, Martin will have to overcome his troubled past to save the future—but can he live with his decisions?
Hillbilly #1 - Value $3.99
I like the graphic work of this title. The story was pretty interesting right from the get-go as well - I'll be finishing it after the review, but I'm not convinced that it's my type of comic just yet. It's almost like a distorted fairytale - which sounds pretty awesome as I say it to myself.
An Appalachian fantasy epic that tells the story of Rondel. A lonely figure who wanders the hills among witches and magical creatures as a folktale hero to those that dwell in this gritty dream world.
Midnight of the Soul #1 - Value $3.50
This was one that didn't hold my interest at all. I wasn't a fan of the story or the graphic work, so I doubt I'll continue.
It's 1950, and Joel Breakstone, former GI and liberator of Auschwitz, is seriously damaged goods. He hasn't exhaled a sober breath in five years—until the sheltered life he's created for himself unravels and he begins the long night that will change his life forever.
Cryptocracy #1 - Value $3.99
I'm putting this title into the category of titles that I assumed I'd really like, but didn't grip me. There were several original sketch variant covers inserted randomly for subscribers - did you get one?
For time beyond memory, the Nine Families watched from the shadows, believing themselves shepherds and manipulating whole societies as they saw fit. Nothing happened that they didnt observe or control. Outsiders knew naught of the Families, much less threatened them. Until now. A blend of The X-Files and Marvels A.I.M.!
Jade Street Protection Service #1 - Value $3.99
The artwork is gorgeous in this title...a little like Paper Girls (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) in the art department. The story was interesting as well - I'm not sure if it's really my type of storyline - but I'm going to finish the issue.
In this new series that mashes The Breakfast Club with Sailor Moon, Kai, Saba, Noemi, Divya, and Emma are (bad) students at Matsdotter Academy, an elite private school for magical girls. When they all meet for the first time in a totally unfair detention, these punk rock witch delinquents cut class and discover the fates Matsdotter has in store for them are even more sinister than they suspected.
BlindVariant: Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything #1 - Value $3.99
This is a title that I've already purchased and read - I'll read anything in the TMNT/Ghostbusters comic lines - it's pretty good, of course, this issue is simply setting the groundwork. I love these variant covers! It will go along nicely with my past TMNT variants from Blindbox!
You could have received Bebop or Rocksteady with each being limited to only 250 copies.
Verdict: I'm always excited to unbox Blindbox Comics each month! I tend to think of comic subscriptions like a sampler subscription box. You're gonna get deliveries where you love it all, and deliveries where you don't like more than you do like. This is the latter for me, but I'm ok with that, I know it's the risk to trying to find a new title. That being said, I'm extremely excited about The Revisionist - and if you'll excuse me, I'm about to buy issue #2 on ComiXology!
