I cancelled my subscription over a week ago — the points system thing and I really didn’t like my July box. But I had 230 points and I was saving them for something I really wanted. So I got the Mass Appeal box because of the full sized products, added the BBSHOP coupon for free shipping and paid with my points. Ended up spending $0.00! So proud of myself! LOL

With the last bit of my points from the July box, I got the mass appeal for just under 5 bucks, which makes me happy, as the summer Target boxes haven’t appealed much to me. I love that lip balm! And now my points are done, my sub ends in September, and that’s it, pretty much.

OMG. I just got an email from Birchbox to tell me that my Chrome bunny that I used the code to get with a $50 purchase is no longer in stock and I will not be receiving it. But it said don’t worry you will not be charged for this item. Well no kidding it was a bonus item that I specifically use the code for. On top of that they aren’t even offering any type of replacement item. Another d-bag move by Birchbox. They suck.

I got this same email about the bunny, a couple of hours AFTER my order was delivered to me missing the item. Classy. I don’t even know how that’s possible because they shipped my order the day I placed it and was sent 2 day shipping which means they just didn’t have the item in stock when I ordered and didn’t bother to update their website and then didn’t bother letting people know until it was too late. It seems silly but it was the last straw and I cancelled my subscription with them after 3 years. It seems like every single order I place with them lately has some sort of issue (missing items, damaged items, missing gwps) and while their customer service is nice, I’d rather deal with a company that doesn’t screw up to the point that I have to contact their CS department every single time I place an order. Not sure if I will ask for a different GWP (nothing else looks good) or maybe I will just return the entire order and buy the stuff elsewhere. Ah well, at least this cancellation will give me a chance to use up my sample overload. If you contact them let me know if they offer a replacement!

The same thing happened to me with a different gwp a few months ago (including the “don’t worry – you won’t be charged” message). I emailed CS and they sent out a different gwp of my choice separately from my order. Granted, this was before the Great Birchbox Crumbling of June ’16, but they *should* still be willing to do this if you contact them. Good luck!

I usually get pretty stoked about the CEW boxes. Last year’s prestige box was awesome, it had a full sized NudeStix in it that I use all the time, marula oil and some other stuff. Even the drugstore version last year was pretty good; it had a mascara, burt’s bee lip crayon, cleansing wipes, moisturizer, etc. I liked that in the past they had a good variety of products. They literally are all skincare products aside from the cream blush sample. How many skincare samples of the same type of product could one person need? They really should have varied up the products. And yes, agreed to the person that said they are tired of dime sized amount of SuperGoop sample. BB doesn’t seem to be on their game at all.

Argh, BB is really getting money grubbing as of late. I was able to get the 1st box for $7.32, which includes the $5 shipping they are charging with my points. After this, I am done with BB. Can’t even get points for reviewing items and all we get are sample sizes.

Last year I got both boxes and they were great. This year the mass appeal box is a great deal if you want the Olay mask, but I already have more night cream than I can use. I need some Micellar water, but I can buy that for less than $15. I am disappointed.

Natalie

Big nope for me. BB is going downhill fast which is so sad. July was an absolutely terrible box for me, and a foil pack was one of my 5 samples, plus no more reviews, plus these terrible boxes, plus pending mystery items… What is going on?!?

I’m kinda on the fence with these. They both seem slightly overpriced for what you’re getting.

Also, similar but different topic – I placed an order with Birchbox on Friday, and found that I couldn’t use points and get free shipping even though my total over $50 after deducting for my points. I think you can’t use points for add-ons, but are you not allowed to use them and still enjoy free shipping on orders over $50?

In the end, I removed the masks box ($20) and just left the one item I can’t find cheaper anywhere else since I was going to pay for shipping anyway…

Jen

I think the first box is a great price. That sleeping mask is $25 at Target.

Reply ButtonReply

Barbie

Urrgg Jen! You were supposed to agree to it wouldn’t look so appealing! lol

🙂

I hadn’t noticed that it was full size, I think you’re right. Too bad for my bank account! 🙂

Emily

Am I the only person who is sick of miniature SuperGoop samples?

I still seem to get a sample every other box! I want new items! Not the same thing month after month. I thought I was the only one.

Reply ButtonReply

Amy BB

No you are not! Here is a dime sized portion of suntan lotion….you are welcome….

Amanda

Can we talk about the mystery pack being out of stock?! I’m glad you mentioned it here as I’ve noticed it for a few days now. I hope this isn’t another thing they get rid of. The mystery pack may be hit or miss but it always keeps me looking forward to it.

I’m confused. Does Birchbox sell all these drugstore brands now? Why would they put out a box of something they didn’t sell on their site? And do a worse job than Target?

Reply ButtonReply

Angie B

My thoughts exactly! I was excited upon seeing the Mass Appeal box and then had to remind myself, this is BB, not Target and although this would be a great deal for $5, at $15, it’s not worth it for me personally.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

Seems I’m in the minority here, but I love the first “drugstore” box. That sleeping mask retails for $25, and I’ve been wanting to try it. And the Simple Miceller is another I’ve been wanting to try – and that’s $6. I love that lip balm too. The others are just added bonuses. I cancelled by bb sub, but I had 22 points. Using the free shipping code (thanks) and my 22 points, I got this for $12.80. That’s pretty damn good in my mind. Just a bit more than a birchbox, with a bunch of full size items I love. Yes please.

Katie

Win for us though, we get to save our money and invest it in a better box that hopefully thinks we aren’t boring.

If you only want one box, use code bbshop for free shipping!

Reply ButtonReply

Maria

Thank You ! My 2nd account wasn’t ace and so with Your code and my Last points I was able to grab This box for $6 and be done with birchbox once and for all !

Reply ButtonReply

Julie E

Is this on anything or just these boxes? Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Melanie

I think everything but, I’m not sure! I just know it worked on this box!

JillA

Aces always get free shipping.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

I’m Ace and I don’t always get free shipping. ???

Khaleesi

I used my points to get the Mass Appeal item…2 full size items! Love it plus the nose strups, I’m sold 🙂

janet

Wow, these two boxes suck! Last year’s were wayyy better. No thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

$18 for samples. Birchbox did you see Target’s recent boxes? Guess not.

Reply ButtonReply

Sherry

Oh no…. birchbox what are you doing? You should be setting an example for all other subscription boxes. This is not good! The first box should only be $5 and I personally wouldn’t buy it for that. The second box isn’t bad except $18 really? For samples? ?
No there’s isn’t even a full size product. I wouldn’t waste my money. What a disappointment!!

Reply ButtonReply

Mandy

This is a good eye opener for me…I need to cut quite a few sub boxes! I can go into my swap stash and pick out several of each of these items. Yikes! I think I just had a swaptervention! ?

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

The first one seems like items you’d get in a Target Beauty box for $7!

redwoods301

I love, love, love that SuperGoop! spray, but it’s been everywhere this summer & I have 3 sample sizes now. Amuway, hard pass on both boxes, neither is impressive this year.

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

Big step down from previous years. Easy pass.

Reply ButtonReply

Amy BB

*Yawn* A chapstick? and the prestige samples are so very tiny…no thanks….

Reply ButtonReply

Joy

Underwhelmed. Easy pass.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

Tempting, but the prestige box samples are teeny tiny.

Reply ButtonReply

Jess

Right? And for almost double the cost of a regular BB but with only 1 extra sample. I must be missing something. That’s more then an alure box, and this month had glamglow, La Mer and Estee lauder.
