aroma-getaway-jun-destination

This month's destination is Hawaii! I've never been, but I bet it smells amazing!

aroma-getaway-jun-info

This is the inside of the little information leaflet that was included, detailing the package contents.

aroma-getaway-jun-candle

Gardenia Waimea White Gardenia Scented Palm Wax Candle (4 oz) - Value $5

Gardenia is my absolute favorite fragrance of all. It's perfect. I am so happy to have received this! It's a very true essence.

aroma-getaway-jun-tea

Hawaiian Iced Tea Packet - Value $1.15

This looks delicious, but I'm trying to cut the sugar out of my diet. I will miss sweet tea, for sure!

Waikiki Teakwood Tiki Set of 4 Tea Lights - Value $3.50

These don't have a very strong scent to them at all. It's nice, just very light.

aroma-getaway-jun-spray

North Shore Surfer's Paradise Room Spray - Value $7?

By the Bay Botanicals does have this fragrance listed, but not the room spray version, so I'm guessing at the value. This smells like a pretty typical "ocean" scent you might find in a candle shop.

Maui Pineapple Plantation Car Freshener - Value $2?

They don't have the car fresheners listed, either, so this is another guess. I was really hoping this would smell like real fresh pineapple, but it smells like a pretty typical fake pineapple scent. It's not a bad scent, but I had to take it out of my car, it's just too hot for that scent.

aroma-getaway-jun-snack

Mauna Loa Macadamia Nuts - Value $1

Yum! I love macadamia nuts! They're the perfect snack.

Hawaii Mango Lip Balm - Value $3.25

This lip balm is definitely soothing and moisturizing. The scent is pretty natural and not overwhelming. This is good stuff!

aroma-getaway-jun-guide

Oahu Revealed: The Ultimate Guide To Honolulu, Waikiki & Beyond - Value $12.71 on Amazon (retail price: $18.99)

Wow, this looks like an amazing guide, and it would be perfect for someone who is actually going to Hawaii! As someone who is not going anywhere this summer, this just makes me sad, though. I never understood the point of the guide books they included in Escape Monthly, either. Didn't Escape Monthly end up going out of business? In any case, I think a book in a travel-themed box is a great idea, but it would be better if the book had the same setting as the destination, or was about something that exists or happened in the destination. That would make for a much better staycation, in my opinion.

SPOILER ALERT: Aroma Getaway is going to The Wild West in August!

Verdict: Aside from the guide book, which I don't really "get", I think this was a great little package from Aroma Getaway. The scents selected this month were all very relevant to the theme, and they smelled great, although some I preferred more than others. The value adds up to about $36, which clears the cost of the box but does not seem to quite make the $45 promised. I could be off on my guesses, though, so I'm not sure. In any case, if you like different fragrances and travel-themed boxes, this might be a good pick for you!

Thanks for the review. With this being our first box, the things you’ve pointed out are things we will consider for future boxes – like the guide books. When it comes to curating the box consider will it fit the theme, will it fit in the box, can most or all of the products be locally sourced to the destination, and will subscribers find it worth it? When it comes to value an average box does come to $45 when shipping and handling is factored in but hope all find the range of $33-$22.95 is fair for all we do include in the box. Again thank you so much for from everyone. We will take to heart and consider for future boxes! Safe travels!

I completely agree with you on the guidebook. I don’t get it. I love reading about places; send me a book about the history of Hawaii, with cool pics, facts and stories, but a guidebook? I’m never going to sit down and just peruse a travel guide for somewhere I’m not going.

Bingo. Thanks Annie!

I may be in the minority but I actually liked reading the guide books in escape monthly. I learned a lot about various destinations that way. The only thing in this box that seems appealing is the guide book. The rest just doesn’t seem very high quality.

Ugh, I never understood sweet tea. But I come from a part of the country where it it doesn’t exist. I don’t like to drink anything with sugar in it because of the way it makes my teeth feel.

I could use the car air fresheners right about now. My car stinks from taking Nyx to the vet every week.
