Before receiving the box, I filled out an online questionnaire about all the different types of activities Kevin and I might enjoy. My consultant, Jessica, also called me to go back through the questionnaire and dig just a little deeper. Talking to her helped me realize there were probably more activities we might be open to, and it also gave me the opportunity to tell her what activities were out of the question for us and why. There were a LOT of activities on the list!

About a week later our box arrived. Jessica had our date all planned for us! We were going to lunch at Houston’s, followed by a painting class at Painting With a Twist! We just had to pick a date and time!

This was our included voucher for Painting With a Twist, valued at $70.

This was our voucher for Houston’s, valued at $75. One interesting thing about this voucher is that it was from Giftly, which means that to redeem it I had to go online and enter my code. The funds then went on my credit card for the date.

We each got two little cards to fill out and give to each other in the little envelopes. One card is for a little love note, and the other is to make your partner a coupon good for a free service of your choosing. Wink wink. This inspired me to write a song called “Love Coupons” for my husband which will obviously never be performed again.

We also got this awesome Love Candle that I somehow managed to refrain from writing a song about. You burn it for 30 minutes, let it cool, and then you can use the warm wax as a massage oil.

From here I could have booked the reservations myself, but Jessica instantly emailed me and asked me if she could book the date for us. Of course I said yes and told her which painting class we wanted. I also told her we would have to do dinner instead of lunch because of our hectic schedules, but that was no problem. Jessica was awesome, by the way!

Here we are arriving at the Painting With a Twist Studio. It’s called that (I think) because it’s a BYOB painting studio. Additionally, the studio was right next to the restaurant so we could relax with our drinks and not worry about cars, Uber, etc.

Here’s our class!

This was our setup. They had the easels, canvases, and paints all ready for us. We provided the Terrapin Peach Famhouse Ales. They were delicious!

This was the painting we were copying in our class.

This was our instructor, Scott. He was very high energy, and just a little bit goofy, while still very competent and encouraging.

At this point I had to put my camera away for a while to paint and drink beer.

This is my husband’s completed painting. It’s so professional looking! He’s so talented. I love that guy.

This is my completed painting. I was getting a little sloppy toward the end, but Scott said it was very “brushy and energetic.” Now my husband won’t stop using that phrase to describe me at every opportunity.

These are the guys who kindly re-parked our car from one side of the lot to the valet area. Thanks guys!

Here we are headed into Houston’s.

This is the bar area. We didn’t go into the bar, but it’s just so lovely I thought I would include this picture.

This is the dining area. We had a great booth seat over by the windows.

We started off with these pretty cocktails. Houston’s is a little spendy, so we decided to just get one each, and at this point we really didn’t need any more anyway. I got the Jackrabbit (left), which was a tequila / grapefruit / mint concoction, and Kevin got the Bee’s Knees, which was a honey / gin / lemon affair. Both were absolutely delicious and very well crafted.

We got the smoked salmon appetizer, and the salmon was of superior quality. It just melted in our mouths. The chef’s dressing was a really tasty accompaniment.

My husband is the world’s leading expert on French Dip Au Jus, and he said that without qualification, this is the best one he’s ever had. That’s huge, y’all.

I had the Thai Steak & Noodle Salad, and it tasted amazing. The basil stood out among a sweet hot sauce with the perfectly seasoned and charred steak. The flavors were complex but completely well balanced. We actually started feeling like yokels because all we could talk about was how good the food and drinks were. Houston’s is a nice restaurant, but it’s not really fancy, it’s more like corporate fancy. I hadn’t been there in over a decade, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I didn’t expect it to be soooooo gooooood!

Bonus! Houston’s has live jazz nightly! I noticed when we arrived that there was a Brazilian bossa nova playing over the PA, which was nice, but then shortly into our meal this trio started up. What a nice touch!

Verdict: Our date from Date Nite Box was awesome! We were all giggles and cuddles like newlyweds the whole time, and it was so fun to explore new activities and venues with my husband. We had a fantastic time! If you include the probable value of the candle and love coupons, the value comes out right around the cost of the box, but this doesn’t include the value of the concierge service, the booking, and the planning. Plus it’s a surprise! Those things are all subjective, so you have to ask yourself what value that might have for you. We really enjoyed it!

What do you think of Date Nite Box? Is this something you would try?

Pre-paid vouchers for your dinner and/or dating events, plus an optional, complimentary date-enhance pack (a few goodies to keep the fun of the date going).

This looks like so much fun! Your painting turned out great. That salad looks delicious!

I live close to the Huston’s test restaurant/kitchen. Although the menu changes to test new plates, the one item that is always available is their french dip. There would be riots in the streets if they ever took it off the menu. Anna, your husband is right, it is the BEST!

I like that this sub is about an actual date instead a “let’s do crafts” night like that other one. Personally, I have enough time to plan my own dates but if I didn’t this might be something I would try.

Hi everyone! Thank you for all the kind words, and I’m sorry there was no picture of us! To clarify, this box was sent to us free of charge to review. This is a typical date they would provide, but since we didn’t pay, I can’t put it into gold, silver, or bronze. The difference is the number of dates you get. At the gold level, you get one date every month for $159. At the silver lever, you get one date every two months for $89 per month or $178 per date. At the bronze level, you get one date every three months for $69 per month or $207 total. I hope this helps!

What a great date night! If that was something they planned for me and my husband I would have been pleased. The food looks delicious and I have done those painting classes before and they really are fun. I actually have the painting hanging in my home office. Great review and it appears your “consultant” did an excellent job.

Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa…Where is the Kevin and Anna picture?! Are you kidding me?
Sorry, you did a good job and the review was interesting, different and informative but…
*sniff* no pic?
Also, as messy as I am with any painting project, art or no…. I would’ve eaten first, then off to paint!

Anna great review, what a fun box! Do you and your husband partake in the date box monthly? What subscription price range was this date?

This was our first! I hope they send us again some time!

What a fun concept! And also a great review! It seems like they really thought of everything! You and your husband seem like a very fun couple…I love how you slip little tidbits about your love for music into your reviews! I cracked up just thinking about a ‘love coupons’ song.

Lol! Thanks Jordan!

I’m confused by the pricing also. And would also like to know if this was one of the free blogger boxes and what level it was.

Your review is good but incomplete and left me confused as others said

What level is this box? Also, I don’t understand the pricing on the website. Like the Bronze one is $69 per month, but its for a quarterly date. So are you paying $69 for the one quarterly date or are you paying $276 ($69×4) for the 1 quarterly date? Also, did they send you this box for review or did MSA pay for it?

It looks like fun and a great idea and something I am interested in trying, but I am confused by it.

Hey Anne, I looked on their website and you pay monthly to get 1 bi monthly or 1 quarterly date. You do get a “pre-date box” for the months you don’t have a date which they value at $20. So it looks like you pay monthly no matter what its just a matter of how much you can pay each month as to how often you get a date box. No matter the level the site did say that the date they plan is valued at 150+.

Great review, Anna! My husband and I love going to Houston’s for dates and I always get the same noodle steak salad that you ordered. It’s so good!

Thanks Jessica!

This was a great post, I loved your personality coming through, and the box looks really cool too.

Thanks Krista!

I’m not going to lie I would have loved if the box came with the BYOB to bring.

Brilliant idea!

Awesome review Anna! Looks like a really fun idea.

and “At this point I had to put my camera away for a while to paint and drink beer.” completely cracked me up 🙂
Both paintings are so good too! I seriously had to scroll back up to the original after I read that the one was actually your husband’s – he is really really good! and you are of course too!

The drinks look delicious!

Thanks Randi!

How funny my family and I were just talking about Houston’s the other day. None of us have been in like a century. We kept confusing it with Houlihan’s. Houlihan’s had excellent food, a little pricey, but very delicious. It looks like it was a very fun date night.
