upset birchbox customer. My 2nd month subscription and my 2nd damage box. Both came in damage product all over the other items, and had to wait close to a month to get a replacement for just that one little item. Did i mention it happen on both the boxes june and july. I also chose an item from the “sample choice” and didn’t receive it. Was just useless to download the app from my phone. personally ipsy and boxy charm have better packaging and products. NOT DUPLICATES.

I have two birchbox accounts. I think I’m going to try the milk makeup sunshine oil. I have never heard of that. It looks interesting. I have very fair skin, it would be nice on to have when going to the beach or lake.

so to clarify (this is going to be my second month of a year long sub…not sure I’m not cancelling) but I digress. I definitely don’t like the box they are showing all of. I could use some mascara, so if I pick a sample then what is the rest of my box? Will it be stuff from this box that they show or will it be picked for me according to my preferences? For some reason I’m not understanding their set up.

Each month you get three options. 1: Pick the “curated” box and receive the samples shown. 2: Choose one of the “sample choice” options and the rest of your box will be a surprise. 3: Choose nothing and have the whole box be a surprise. Hope this helps. I had to figure it out on my own Lol.

I’m not excited about mascara because I have fake eyelashes on but my little sister loves it so I will just be saving it for her. I think I’m going to go with the curated box. I’m not excited about this months box but I usually find a product or two that I end up liking each month. I’m disappointed about the points change because I was saving them up for some unknown future purchase but it looks like I will have to spend them now. I bought the yearly subscription on black Friday for $90 so I’m not sure it’s worth trying to cancel and get some of my money back.

So I’m a little confused…if I currently have 95 pts and I’m able to snag the 50 pts for next month’s box, after they change the point system I’ll have $14 I can use towards a purchase?

I have two accounts and was close to reaching Ace status on my newer one. I’m absolutely swimming in Dr. Brandt products. . .many have come from Birchbox. I’m not excited about the curated box or the sample choice, but I think I’ll keep my Ace account and cancel the other. $20 a month is too much to spend now that I won’t be getting review points. Really, the samples just aren’t worth $10/month to me but I always felt $5 (after review points) was a fair price. Especially since I’m very happy with Sephora Play and Allure.

Dianne

I’m over Birchbox. At least I’ve only invested 2 months in them. Maybe one more just for the last points. My other subcription box is Boxycharm is the best.

Reply ButtonReply

Kimberly

Uhh… blech on all the choices. Using my accumulated points after this month and I’m out. Will look for another box. Too bad I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning. I have to wonder if they got ahead of themselves in part because of their own review system. On all the reviews when it asks where would you purchase I always select birchbox. Ummm, because of points people. Wouldn’t pay retail there.

Marion

Does anyone actually want any of these? Mine will definitely be going up in the swaps board since I only wear waterproof. Which one should I choose?

Reply ButtonReply

Amy

For heaven’s sake, four different mascaras and every one is black.

Reply ButtonReply

Words from the wise for people with naturally curly hair above 3b – the Living Proof Styling Milk is trash! It will dry out your curls and make them difficult to work with because it has like no slip and doesn’t moisturize.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristy

Thanks for the tip!

It seems like we always get mascara samples that are not waterproof in summer!!! I remember I got mascara for last summer, can’t remember year before that, but I’ve got so many non-waterproof mascara samples that I just can’t use and gifted away.

And as for the curated box, I’ve got Dr. Brandt and Living Proof samples in my last 2 sample boxes, I guess I will just choose nothing and then cancel it after my July one arrives.

Reply ButtonReply

Miriam

Oh good, a mascara! We never get those in sub boxes. Do they somehow not know or do they just not care? Why must every single sub box send oodles of black mascara/eyeliner and nail polishes (not black)? There are so many amazing beauty products out there, why not something different? I know I know, preaching to the choir.

Reply ButtonReply

BriM

I got that exact same dermabrasion in this month’s BB and the Smashbox X-rated in my Ipsy last month. And Ipsy seems to be sending more mascara in July too. So it looks like either way – curated or random or sample choice — I’ll probably get a duplicate sample of Smashbox or Dr Brandt.

Ive never tried the sunshine oil and have heard good things about Living Proof so that’s a plus. And I love that it’s more skincare than makeup. But over all…this does not at all excite me.

I may cancel, spend my points and see how BB evolves in the future.

Reply ButtonReply

Joan

I am glad I canceled! I don’t need anymore mascara.

Reply ButtonReply

Steffy

This, and I don’t understand NON waterproof mascaras during summer. Completely useless in the current 102° heat where I am. Was there an overrun of deluxe size mascaras at the manufacturers recently or what?, lol!

Reply ButtonReply

Desiree

Well, looks like I’m one of the few excited about this box lol I’m choosing the curated box, for sure!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I agree, Desiree. I’m excited about the curated box. And with all the people who are unsubscribing, hopefully the curated box won’t be sold out by the time we get to make our choice. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Maria

I’d be happier I’d BB carried more stuff that I use regularly. Like Philosophy’s Help Me or Keihls Cream with Silk Groom or the Too Faced and Tarte lines. The most convenient Sephora is in a JC Penney so it’s small and it’s easier to order items that I don’t have to test out first. I’ll stick around because I still like to try out new stuff.
With that said, I want to add that my Spring Beautycon box had “They’re Real” as did this months Sephora Play box. I won’t be choosing it this month.

Reply ButtonReply

Elena

This is soooo blaaaaah. Yet another mascara and NONE of them are waterproof. How hard is it to include one waterproof item?? It’ freakin summer:( I’m gonna ride off my gifted sub until December and not renew. If the company don’t collapse by then of course:D My only hope is that they’ll have less customers and will be able to allocate the best samples to everybody who stayed trying to make them stay longer…

Reply ButtonReply

EC

Their plan is to get rid of the sub completely in the near future so I wouldn’t count on that happening. When the CEO labels the sub boxes as boring and says their #1 goal is opening brick and mortar stores to compete with Sephora and Ulta, it’s not a good sign of future sub box improvements.

BelleB

I’m so tempted to cancel now but the July box will be my 20th. Does anyone know if you get a special coupon/code for your 20th box? I’d like to have a coupon to use with my remaining points.

Reply ButtonReply

Mew

This month was my 24th box and I didn’t get a thing for it. Didn’t even know it WAS a thing :-/

Reply ButtonReply

EC

My understanding is they eliminated all discounts and point perks except GWPs, including anniversary rewards. I doubt you’ll see any extra points but you could get lucky if your date is before the new policies go into effect at the end of July.

Reply ButtonReply

Latasha

I don’t even know if they will still be doing those. They disabled all the other coupons. I think bob is trying to stay afloat at this point and cutting whatever they can.

Reply ButtonReply

Maria

Actually, I got one for my 21st box.

Reply ButtonReply

carey

I think Play opened up subs again today….I got an email on an account I signed up for months ago with saying it was time. I’d go in now and see if the invite is open for you. I managed to get lucky a few months ago with just randomly checking. Good luck folks…

AS far as birchbox, I am doing what everyone else is, July is my last box, getting my last 50 points and cashing out my $20 in points and calling it done. lol
I chose the random box last month and it was horrible, no idea what to pick this round, probably will go with one of the mascaras and the rest mystery as the curated box I already have everything from already since I’ve been subbing for years

The NEXT question should be what are you spending your last points on?

Reply ButtonReply

Mew

I think I will have $15 for mine. I had 62 products on my “Wanna Try” list so… i’ll probably throw in an extra $10 and get the Gimme Brow they never sent me for last month. That’s if I decide not to cancel tonight.

Reply ButtonReply

molly

all 5 of my emails including the one I already have play on got invites yesterday

Reply ButtonReply

redwoods301

I have nearly 300, after this next box, I’m getting Good Genes! If possible, I’ll cancel after that, since I re-subbed in May!

Reply ButtonReply

Vera

I think once I review July’s, I’ll have about $30 of points. I’m thinking of getting Benefit’s Dandelion Dew and maybe a Lipstick Queen lipstick.

Reply ButtonReply

Steffy

Dandelion Dew is great, love it. Just be careful if you travel or plan to carry it with you… the tube inside mine came detached from the cap & wouldn’t pump out – luckily I caught it before it sunk and reattached with minor mess/hassle. Just a friendly Fyi if you travel with it, it’s more fragile than it looks! 🙂

Latasha

I was going to let ,y annual sub run its course through September since it was prepaid but after seeing this I just could not. I chatted and cancelled for my remaining months to be refunded. I only have 69 points so I knew it wasn’t worth it to stick around. I wish them luck as they revamp without me.

Reply ButtonReply

Barbie

Oooo, I know one item we’re getting in our July BB….MASCARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I think the curated box looks good. I haven’t tried most of the items in it including that particular brand of mascara.

Reply ButtonReply

Katie

Everyone is saying that you they are getting rid of the points system? I thought that we just can’t get over 50 points per box any more? Can someone help me out because I’m canceling if the points are completely done with, that’s the only reason I haven’t canceled.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen J

After July 11, you can only review up to five more products, for a total of 50 points. You cannot receive any more points for reviewing products after you have received those 50 points. You will only earn points through referrals or purchases in the shop from July 11 on.

Reply ButtonReply

AshKay

I assumed it was 50 points at a time. 50 ever is just crazy.

Ragan

Starting next month, you can get 50 points for reviews EVER.

You can still earn points by making purchases in their shop and by doing referrals. Points expire after six months for everyone (even Aces).

Reply ButtonReply

Katie

That they are**

Reply ButtonReply

Melanie

Does anyone know if your account needs to be active in order to make purchases and use your existing points? I’m so over Birchbox and feel bad because I recommended them to my cousin the weekend before their “big announcement” and raved about their point system. I’m ready to cancel both my accounts. There’s too many dupes! And the boxes this month aren’t that cute. Yes, I’m weird and box design is a very important factor to me!

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

Nope, you keep your points if you cancel and you can still use them as long as it is before they expire.

Reply ButtonReply

Melanie

Thank you!

Dianne

Curated box looks like scrapes. I got smashbox in ipsys bag last month. Didn’t play just have benefit also. The Other mascara I wouldn’t want. The boxs look ugly. I’ll pick smashbox. This box would be my third and last.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

Yep, sephora play had the benefit mascara in the box this month.

Reply ButtonReply

Steffy

Yep!
