BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. It’s one of our favorite subscription boxes – our dog loves it, and we’ve gifted it to dogs in our extended family as well!

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the small size (our dog weighs 14 pounds). Check out Ragan's review of this month's box for large dogs!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon June 2016 - box sniffing

It looks like Buckles is really good at taking photos - but he was all about investigating this box!

I will say - he has some patience for us taking pictures!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon June 2016 - toy

Panda's Pocket Knife - Value $12

Buckles favorite toy this month was this little swiss army knife. Both toys were a bit oversized for him - but he was able to make due with the tools that are sticking out of the side.

This was a keeper for him. He's played with it a bit more in the house, too.

The Pan-Demonium Plushie - Value $10

This was just a little bit too big for him to really play with. At first, I assumed the bacon and eggs were attached with velcro - but they're stitched on. The entire base of the pan is a great big squeaker - which would be great if he could actually bite down on it.

Naturally - he gave it a shot, but this one will be gifted.

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon June 2016 - treats

Bison Cookout Cookies - Value $6

Unfortunately, these are sold out on the BarkShop! Buckles absolutely loved these things and they're now our go-to treats.

Of course, you have to get the Buckles' action shot into the review!

Mutt Mallows - Value $8

This was another favorite treat this month. It's more of a dessert treat, they are almost like a vanilla macaroon - and they smell really good!

Buckles was not interested in waiting for us to finish photography. These are the backup treats this month!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon June 2016 - chew

Crunchy Duck Chew - Value $4

The last item was a duck chew. We typically don't give these to Buckles, but we let him try it out this month. I assumed he'd love it because it really smelled bad - but he really didn't want anything to do with it.

Verdict: We love BarkBox - and every family member we've bought it for also loves getting it every month! We are primarily running on only BarkBox treats at this point, which is great, so it's awesome to have them re-filled every month. On top of that, Buckles has really been loving the toys lately - this month was a bit of a miss on the toy front, but the bacon and eggs toy is easily gifted.

I have a yorkie and this is my first box and I am so annoyed! All the toys I got the frying pan, toilet paper roll, and smore are so big he cannot even pick them up!

My Shih Tzu is very picky. She wouldn’t eat the campfire nor the marshmallow treats. She didn’t give but a little sniff at the frying pan. She loved the duck chew and the beef pretzel chew in the baseball pack but only one or two toys (smaller squeakie toys) have peeked her interest in the last 6 months. I think it is a good deal if your dog loves toys & is not picky about treats. She enjoys getting the box in the mail (something for her) but once open & digs through it she loses interest. My neighbors’ dogs have benefited from this subscription and can’t wait to see what Kona rejects every month!

Oh Cheryl, I’m so sorry. I know you are excited when the Bark Box arrives and would love to have her share in the excitement! I have two dogs – luckily Mindy loves every toy and none of the treats and Sandy would devour every treat the day they arrive. 🙂

I have two subs one for a large dog one for s small dog (I have four dogs). This is the first month we’ve had the smaller sub and I’m completely disappointed. Two of the toys are the exact same as in the 40lb box and our little dogs can’t play with them at all. The third toy (we got the really good free third toy promo for both) is the skillet which is also too big.

I love Barkbox but they need to figure out that a 10lb chihuahua can’t play with the same toy as a 40lb dog.

I love the toys we get in our BarkBox, but for some reason my dog is starting to reject a lot of the treats they give us. I’m trying to figure out what the offending ingredients are. 🙁 Does anyone know if you can request treats without certain ingredients? I hate to cancel the sub.

Hi Nicolle,
I think if you contacted BarkBox they would definitely try to work around your dog’s preferences! They have been so helpful and quick to reply every time I have contacted their CS. Let me know your experience, Alyce

Buckles, I look forward to your reviews. Cute theme as usual. I get the medium box. We got a plush flashlight and a s’more’s toy. My dog loves both and they are still in one piece. We got different treats which I put in the freezer because we aren’t finished with last months yet. We also got the duck chew. She hasn’t had it yet, but I’m sure she will love it.

Our 28 pound herder cannot get her mouth around the flashlight or squeeze it for sound. Too bad, so cute, and she tried so hard to play with the toy.

I got the same box, my dogs loved it my neighbors 8lb Maltese loved the new toys too, she had no problem picking up the pan and running with it.

Emily

Aw, Buckles seems to be taking this review very seriously!

Lydia

I love that frying pan! The toys I got this month were a plush flashlight that my dog inexplicably loves (considering it’s too hard for him to squeak it), a bear, and a plush roll of toilet paper – I get a “bonus toy” every month from a promotion a few months ago and cannot recommend it enough. I got entirely different treats as well, except for the crunch duck chew. I love the variety they have between boxes… even though I want the frying pan. 🙂

Me too! I don’t have a dog and have no reason to get this sub. I just wanted to see the puppy!
