LIL BEAR BOOKCLUB APRIL 16 - items 1

Jack and the Beanstalk by George Bridge - $10.99 on Amazon, ($14.99 retail)

The artwork in this book is unique and interesting!  I definitely feel like there’s a lot to look at, which is good for my kid while I read it to him.

LIL BEAR BOOKCLUB APRIL 16 - items 2

This version is a little different because Jack’s mother, while not along with him for the adventure, is still involved with it with him. I thought it was fun that it’s a slightly different take.

LIL BEAR BOOKCLUB APRIL 16 - items 3

Buddy the Junior Conductor - $0.01 on Amazon ($5.99 retail)

This book is about kid dinosaurs (clearly, one named Buddy is the protagonist) and their exploration of a train.

LIL BEAR BOOKCLUB APRIL 16 - items 4

Buddy and Tiny have little jobs they have to do to earn their junior conductor hats. It’s a cute book!

LIL BEAR BOOKCLUB APRIL 16 - items 5

Animal Wonder (Everyday Rhymes) - $6.99 on Amazon ($15.95 retail)

This book has pretty illustrations and poems about different animals.

LIL BEAR BOOKCLUB APRIL 16 - items 6

There’s also a spot on each page to push and hear the poems read. It’s not an annoying voice, either, which is nice.

Verdict: I like Lil Bear Bookclub, and I appreciate that they aim to encourage family bonding and learning/reading with books. Children’s reading and literacy is something that is really important to me! I like the idea of getting “surprise books” for you and your kids to get excited about. However the value is hard to estimate. As you can see with the Amazon prices, you can get loads of children’s books for dirt cheap online, not to mention free from libraries (although getting to the library and then also remembering to return them might be a bit of a pain, it’s important to patron libraries and keep them open!). So, really, I think the concept and surprise of Lil Bear Bookclub is one you would have to want/enjoy more than be looking for a good deal.

Thank you for the library plug! As a librarian, I love seeing patrons coming in to get books for our youngest customers; however, I firmly believe that it is very important for kids to have books that they own as well-a personal collection to love and read over and over. So do both-buy some and get some at the library. Love your reviews. Keep up the great work!

I got the same box, it was alright, but I was aiming for younger board books. Last month’s looked perfect this month was more of a miss for me personally.
