The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeny - Retail Value $26.99 (On Amazon for $16.19)

Book Summary from Amazon:

Every family has its problems. But even among the most troubled, the Plumb family stands out as spectacularly dysfunctional. Years of simmering tensions finally reach a breaking point on an unseasonably cold afternoon in New York City as Melody, Beatrice, and Jack Plumb gather to confront their charismatic and reckless older brother, Leo, freshly released from rehab. Months earlier, an inebriated Leo got behind the wheel of a car with a nineteen-year-old waitress as his passenger. The ensuing accident has endangered the Plumbs' joint trust fund, “The Nest,” which they are months away from finally receiving. Meant by their deceased father to be a modest mid-life supplement, the Plumb siblings have watched The Nest’s value soar along with the stock market and have been counting on the money to solve a number of self-inflicted problems.

Melody, a wife and mother in an upscale suburb, has an unwieldy mortgage and looming college tuition for her twin teenage daughters. Jack, an antiques dealer, has secretly borrowed against the beach cottage he shares with his husband, Walker, to keep his store open. And Bea, a once-promising short-story writer, just can’t seem to finish her overdue novel. Can Leo rescue his siblings and, by extension, the people they love? Or will everyone need to reimagine the futures they’ve envisioned? Brought together as never before, Leo, Melody, Jack, and Beatrice must grapple with old resentments, present-day truths, and the significant emotional and financial toll of the accident, as well as finally acknowledge the choices they have made in their own lives.

This is a story about the power of family, the possibilities of friendship, the ways we depend upon one another and the ways we let one another down. In this tender, entertaining, and deftly written debut, Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney brings a remarkable cast of characters to life to illuminate what money does to relationships, what happens to our ambitions over the course of time, and the fraught yet unbreakable ties we share with those we love.

Yay! This book has been everywhere in the press over the last month or two - I can't wait to read it!

Zkano Organic Striped Socks - Value $16

Cozy Reader Club definitely gets the cozy part of this box down every month! I don't know why but I love getting socks in subscription boxes - these are great!

Grey Ghost Bakery Lemon Sugar Cookies - Value $5

My husband recently fell in love with Halo Top Lemon Cake ice cream, and these were a perfect accompaniment! Here is a better look at the cookie:

They are "hand-topped with pearlized sugar and baked with candied lemon zest!"

Jasmine Pearl Tea Company in Jasmine Peony - Value $6.50

I loved this tea. It's different than other green teas I've tried, and now I want to sample more from the Jasmine Pearl Tea Company!

And this box came with the perfect tea accessories:

Beaded Teapot Tea Infuser - Value $15

This is the cutest tea infuser I've ever seen! Here is a closer look:

Bee Local Honey Sticks - Value $10

I prefer to drink my tea unsweetened, but these will be good for guests or anytime I'm craving something sweet!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $68.50 (that's with the discounted Amazon sale price of the box). I think that's an OK value if you sign up with the $10 off for life coupon ($55 a month). Make sure to sign up before May 1st to get that deal! Cozy Reader Club is still on the high-end in terms of cost for a monthly book box, so it probably isn't for everyone, but I think they do an excellent job delivering on their promise of what you can expect in a box, and everything felt special! This box is definitely about the experience!

I always use honey sticks in my tea. They’re much less messy than using a honey pot. However, it looks like the sticks are $4 for 10, not $10. I was really shocked at the $10 price at first! I just buy the 5 for $1 sticks from the natural foods store, and I love getting random flavors–ginger and orange are the best!

For me this is pricey for a monthly subscription. I just cancelled my BOTM subscription due to my dislike of the cheaply printed BOTM editions. I have Muse Monthly which includes a book and tea. I’ll keep comparing the two of them and decide whether to keep MM or switch to Cozy Reader.

On another note, Halo Top ice cream is delicious! My current favorite is strawberry!
