Story Surprise has posted this on their blog and social media:

An Open Message to Story Surprise Customers and Fans;

First we would like to thanks you for all of your support. We launched our service about two months ago and experienced and immediate and overwhelming response. The feedback we got was very positive and it was clear to us that we had hit a nerve with our mission of supporting literacy by making high quality children’s books affordable for everyone.

After two months of service we have concluded that in order to keep up with the demand we are going to need to bring in more inventory and gear up to support more customers than we had originally anticipated.
To give us some time to get this in place we are going to pause selling and shipping books for the time being with the goal of resuming our service in very near future.

If you have paid us any money, or signed up for our service with a promotional offer, we will refund you in full, and any books we sent you are yours to keep and enjoy for free. No more books will be sent and no further charges will be applied to your account. You will see the refund applied to your credit card no later than 3-31-2016 date.

We hope to leave you with a positive impression of StorySurprise so that you will rejoin us when we resume operations. If you have not yet used StorySurprise and are interested in trying our service when we relaunch, please click here to leave us your name and email address and we will contact you with a special offer at that time.

Thanks you again and we will see you soon!

I've yet to see a subscription box come back from "paused," but I hope I'm wrong on this one!

This is a shame, I hope it really does come back. We loved the first month, and the girls were both saving up to pay for their own to continue on, so hopefully they’ll still have the chance 🙂

This is not a surprise at all. The site was a disaster with no account access and people were signing up for multiple free offers. My kids were not impressed with the Feb box as it seemed geared more towards boys.
How can we delete our information?

We loved our first Story Surprise. I hope they return because I would sign up for the year. My son brought the book he received from Story Surprise to school to be read to the class because he loves it so much.

I really hope they come back soon!
I really liked it so far – my son has only gotten 1 book, but I thought it was neat.
And $10 is very reasonable so I would have continued after the free months ran out.

I loved it and was signing up for a year. Glad I did not. Check your accounts and remove your info!

I am sad to learn the news. I tried the 3-month promo and received Feb book for my son and we loved it, but wondering when the March book will ship. I am afraid too many of us signed up for the promo… I really hope they will come back because I was planning on continuing on…

Oh no!! My kids loved getting their books last month 🙁 With Story Surprise they can both get their own box and it not cost daddy an arm and a leg. I truly hope they do come back ??

I’m not surprised with the number of free boxes they were offering. I hope they have learned something and are able to bounce back!
