PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Smoothing Blowout Spray - 1 oz Value $4.90

This spray is designed to add volume and shine while protecting your hair against heat damage. I like the PARLOR line a lot. All products from the line are safe for color-treated hair and are free of sulfates, parabens, and gluten. My favorite part of the line is probably the scent! For me, I didn't see a significant difference in volume, but I think my hair looked healthier, and it definitely smelled great!

MILK Studios Lip Color in C.R.E.A.M. - .014 oz Value $3

This may be the tiniest lipstick sample I've ever come across! It's pretty cute:

birchbox-march-2016-milk

The pigment is good, and the formula is moisturizing. The color isn't perfect for me, but it is pretty good. (Swatched below.)

Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio in Filter - .04 oz Value $12.40

This trio is designed to give you a shade, contour, and highlight option. It was one of the main selling points for me on the curated box this month, and I'm so happy to see that it is about half the size of the full-size version. It should last me a while!

Wilma Schumann Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads - Value $3.60

I've tried lots of different eye pads thanks to subscription boxes, and the results for me are usually the same - hydrating, refreshing, but no real noticeable difference in the appearance of my undereye area. The same thing happened with these eye pads. They get really good reviews on Birchbox, though, so they definitely work for some people!

Here is a closer look at the Smashbox Eye Shadow Trio:

birchbox-march-2016-smashbox

Here are the shades swatched with the MILK Studios lipstick:

birchbox-march-2016-swatch

I love how wearable these shades are - I think this is my new go-to eyeshadow look!

birchbox-march-2016-kiehls

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream - .25 oz Value $4

This is a decadent cream, but it absorbed pretty quickly. No fragrance too, which I always like in my skincare products!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $28 - I think that's great for a $10 box. (And I'll get $5 back in Birchbox shop points for reviewing the samples). My favorite thing about picking the curated box this month is the Smashbox sample - it's worth more than the $10 box alone!

I’m so over BB. It used to be my favorite but NOT ANY MORE!! Ugh. All I get are repeated items and I got the currated box this time only because I use that smashbox but otherwise the box was a joke. Lipstick… Smallest ever! And the eye pads ripped my skin off. I am so upset. I emailed them yesterday and April will be my last box. I turned around and subscribed to Allure, hopefully it will be better. I already get Ipsy and I’m never disappointed so hopefully I will like Allure. I always liked having one makeup one skincare but BB has totally let me down the last like 4-5 boxes. 🙁

This is the first time I requested the curated box, and I was really disappointed. The lipstick sample was a joke (ridiculous size and very cheaply made), and IMO shouldn’t have been counted as a sample. And my Kiehl’s was half-empty. Those were the two items that really made me want this box. So this one was pretty much a bust.

Watch out for those eye pads! They really stung, almost instantly upon putting them on. I don’t have sensitive skin, but I could still feel the stinging sesnsation hours after wiping it off. Lots of reviewers on BB saying the same.

Box Twins!!? Listen~ I wrote them to let them know my Smashbox was, well.. smashed?!! While I was at it, I let them know that I had received a free BB, (because I had spent $50+, during that special sale) and the, “The Balm” sample was empty… I just asked if they could throw another “The Balm” sample in my April box, since I’d always wanted to try it. (that’s all I asked of them) Guess what they did?? They literally OVERNIGHTED me a brand new free Birchbox & separately sent a new Smashbox Trio, as well! I mean.. C’mon! Birchbox has THE BEST customer service! Hands down!!! On top of that, they put $5 in my acct… ?Seriously.. I will NEVER leave BB. Plus, with all the codes & specials they have daily, I now try & purchase a lot of my makeup/skincare, I’d usually get at Sephora, etc. through Birchbox! They’re pretty amaze-balls!!!! ??#teambb xo

My Smashbox trio was also cracked and I even sent a picture to them and was told they were out of stock and gave me 50 BB points. I was ok with that until I now read this…now I am pissed…I wish companies would be consistent so others do not feel ripped off. This makes me want to dump them.

I got this box last week, and the Smashbox eye shadow was open and had shattered and spread all over the box 🙁 That eye shadow was the deciding factor in my getting the curated box. I contacted Birchbox asking for a replacement eye shadow, and they replied the same day (Ace priority?) saying that they were sending a full replacement box (special Ace service? I’ve never gotten a full replacement box for a broken item before). It shipped a week ago and still has yet to arrive, but it should be here by Saturday. They said they’d try to give me the same thing but couldn’t promise it, so I’m really hoping for the curated box so that I can get this eye shadow! I’d also be happy to have a second Kiehl’s cream; I use any heavy duty facial moisturizers on my 5-year-old son, who has keratosis pilaris on his face 🙁

On my other sub, I didn’t choose a sample or a curated box. I am getting:

-Blocki for walks – that’s 3 perfume samples out of 5 boxes for this sub, and I asked for minimal perfumes in my profile
-treStiQue Color & Smudge Shadow Crayon – hopefully in a color I can use
-Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow – I *love* Marcelle products, so I’m looking forward to this
-PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Volumizing & Texturizing Shampoo and Conditioner
-Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser – not complaining about this

It isn’t Ace priority at all. My very first order with BB was for a LE box. I didn’t realize until after the order was placed that I could have gotten the free sample pack. I emailed them right away to see if it was possible to add it but my order had already been processed. They sent my free sample pack and a couple additional samples OVERNIGHT! Their customer service is amazing, all sub companies (well, companies in general really) could take a few tips from them!

Reply ButtonReply

BonBon

Wow you both received awesome customer service. I had an item completely missing. I emailed and they said they’re out of that item and only gave me 50 points. My niece had a damaged product like you and she got a brand new box with 5 samples and 100 points! I was really disappointed in my own experience.

?????

OMG! I wrote almost the same thing, then went back & started reading comments and saw yours below mine. LOL!! I swear to you~ Birchbox is an amazing company! It’s most definitely “customer first” orientated! That’s pretty hard to find, consistently, now days! Kudos to BB!! I don’t think I’l ever not be a BB subscriber/customer! Makes my heart smile.. ??

Rebecca

Wow, your experience beat mine, but overall I’m still happy with their attempt to rectify the situation. My replacement box shipped on the 9th, but it went from TN to IN and has been in a holding pattern in Atlanta since Tuesday (I live in SC, about 5 hours away). I’m hoping it’ll arrive tomorrow!

But yes, I have had solid customer service with Birchbox from Day One. My very first box included an eyeliner that had no cap – not off and floating around the box, just missing completely. The eyeliner had “drawn” all over the box and all my other items. I requested a replacement eyeliner, which I was told would be shipped but never was. After a week, I submitted another customer service request, and they apologized and shipped one out, as well as gave me 100 Birchbox points. So I had a bit of a rocky start with Birchbox, but since then it’s been smooth sailing! Their deciding to just send me a whole new March box is pretty cool 🙂

Kay

I just feel a little sad about Birchbox sample sizes sometimes because the box is about the same size as Allure and Allure packs their boxes with products! They arrived on the same day this month, so I couldn’t help compare… However, Birchbox’s reward system is one of the best, customer service is excellent, and they come up with LE box and Value Kits that we can get a good deal. I paid for year sub during Black Friday, so my box is about $7 and I get $5 back in points, so not a bad way to sample new products. I tried Parlor spray this morning and I like it! I see a lot of negative comments about Parlor products and I wonder why. But I don’t really use a lot of hair products in general so…

I really liked a couple things I got. The stainiac is great and so subtle, love it. And I got the tre’stique eye shadow crayon in pine. I’ve never bought/got a color like that and I really like it. My box didn’t even come with tissue paper in it this month. It looked kinda sad when I opened it.

Reply ButtonReply

Rebecca

Ok, so that wasn’t just me! My non-curated box didn’t have tissue paper in it, either, and I thought it looked a little, well, chintzy. There was just a thin layer of black foam on the bottom. Maybe it’s better for the products to have the foam as opposed to the tissue paper? My curated box had tissue paper.

I got that TreStiQue crayon, too. The color looks cool, but I’m not quite sure if it’ll work for me. I’d rather trade it than try it and end up tossing it because I don’t like it, you know? When I have a minute, I plan to Google it and see what I think 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

BonBon

Rebecca, ipsy has a little video. They use the same exact color for a smoky eye, with gold and black. It looks really pretty! That pine color is good for today, st pattys day! Lol. I found the video on YouTube, tre’stique eye shadow crayon is what I searched.

Rebecca

Ha, I started typing “dark green eye shadow” into Google, and “dark green eye shadow brown eyes” came up as a suggestion. Lots of pretty pictures. I think I’ll give it a shot for something different!

Kim

i loved the parlor spray. Wasn’t too sure I would like it. I gave long wavy thick hair and it detangled my locks ! Eye shadow was a nice! A quaility brand. The Browns didn’t were true and not reddish hued. Lipstick was small but color was ok. Eye pads will try at spa . The creme is great for my sensitive skin. Will put this in my travel kit if I can get it open. Tee hee

I had the same issues as everyone else, it seems. The teeny lipstick broke as soon as I tried it, and it took me FOREVER to get the Kiehl’s open. I don’t ever complain though-for ten dollars, I get to try things without shelling out money on “mistakes.” And this time around, I absolutely fell in love with the Parlor spray. I immediately ordered the full size with my points. To me, that’s a sample box doing it’s job!

Reply ButtonReply

KathyB

I had exactly the same experience! As soon as I tried that lipstick, it broke and fell on the counter. I put it back in the tube, but it fell off again. I thought about trying to get a little container…kinda like the Kiehl’s one..to smash it up in. Not sure if it’s worth all that trouble though. And speaking of the Kiehl’s…I thought I was going to have to get my husband to open it for me! It was so tight on there…ridiculous. Love the stuff though..first time I’ve tried it and I was really happy with it.

I thought the lipstick was an ugly color and the collagen pads were useless (scientist here), but really liked the other three items, so it worked for me. I don’t whine about sample size because Birchbox is, per definition, a sampling service. Their goal is to get you to buy the full-size products from them. If the sample lasts more than a month, why would anyone buy a full-size? The samples are big enough for you to make a decision re purchasing.

Emily

My lipstick also broke immediately, but I sort of crammed it back together and am using it and liking it. Great texture and color for me. Worst packaging ever, though, and the plastic bag seems incredibly wasteful to me for a company that claims to be eco-friendly. What is that about?

I was excited about the Smashbox, but it’s sooo pigmented that on my pasty skin the darker colors just make me look unhealthy or like I’ve been punched. I want to get my hands on the violet palette.

Jenny

I laughed so hard at the size of the lipstick sample. I think it should have came with 2 colors like a recent Sephora reward. I’m thankful to have it though.
I mainly got this box for the eyeshadow trio (now the 4th one in my collection).
The Kiehls is a nice touch.

Debbie S.

I can’t get the Kiehl’s open! My lipstick broke immediately, but I do like it a lot. I haven’t been thrilled with BB since I started receiving it 4 months ago. This has been my favorite box though.

Rookala

My lipstick broke off immediately, too, when I tried to apply it. What a waste, right in the trash.

nana

I was sort of “blah” about my box (my review will be up on my website tomorrow). I got a Cargo eyeshadow duo which would have been great if it was not made in China. I got a different type of Kiehl cream, which is OK but as I don’t suffer from dry skin, sort of on overkill for me. then I got a lip stain which would be great for people with anemia (I’m not one of them), an oriental perfume sample (not my thing) and the Number 4 shampoo & conditioner.

So all boring stuff. I’m enjoying Glossybox so much more – I think when I’m done with all my free Birchbox boxes (bought with points), I’ll quit Birchbox for good.

Man after this box I went ahead & canceled!! & I tell you it felt sooo liberating!! No regrets whatsoever. Seriously it seems like their samples get smaller & smaller! When I saw that tiny lipstick it was the last straw! I love their point system but the way I look at it with the money I spend on the sub I can subscribe to a better more worth it sub like allure! Therefore bye bye birchbox!

Bella

I really liked my box too. I loved the lipstick even being so small. Loved the texture and formula. I’m still using my little sample. Need to but reg. Size. ?The eyeshadow is bomb. Been using it everyday this week. Blow out spray was used on Sunday and my hair still looks great. Great box.

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

I’ve only tried the lipstick. It is so tiny, but I love the color on me. Looking forward to trying everything else.

Reply ButtonReply

Mary Ann

The tiny lipstick broke as soon as I tried it, BB is sending me a replacement. Also, I love the Kiehl’s cream. It is thicker than most creams I have found and so far my face is looking much more moisturized! I did use up some BB points and got a full size Kiehl’s cream! I have really like it!

Reply ButtonReply

Ruby

I wish I didn’t get the curated sample, ugh – the lipstick sample is the tiniest one I’ve ever seen and is a great disappointment

Reply ButtonReply

LBB

That lipstick sample was ridiculous.

Reply ButtonReply

Masha

Overall, I really liked this box but the MAKE lipstick broke as soon as I tried to apply it. Definitely doesn’t make me want to buy anything of theirs!

Reply ButtonReply

Miccarty

The lipstick shade wasn’t great on me either, but I am glad to try the eyeshadow formula. I like the pinkier shades they have so if I like these Browns I may buy the full size in other shades. I love that Parlor spray. I got that from birchbox in another order – maybe the blow out box or as a mystery sample, and was surprised to like it so much, so I ordered the curated box for that!

Barbie doll lipstick broke the second I applied light pressure to put it on! Most pathetic sample I have ever received.

AGREED!!!

Now I’m going to have to try to get one of these for my daughter’s American Girl Doll!

AnnaS424

Hahaha! I referenced Barbie on my review of that lipstick on birchbox.com too! It didn’t break on me (yet), but that’s cuz I had already read up on all the reviews on Sephora about how easily it breaks. Even though I like the color I wouldn’t pay $22 for it!

I got the curated box this month too and am pretty happy with it. I like the Parlor spray, haven’t tried other items yet – maybe I’ll try the eyeshadow tomorrow 🙂
And yes, that had to be the smallest lipstick ever!
