Cairn is a subscription service that delivers outdoor gear every month. They bill their service as "Your Monthly Box of Outdoor Discovery." There have been so many good weather days this winter that we have barely slowed down on our outdoor activities!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

cairn-feb-quote

When I signed up for Cairn, they asked me to do a huge questionnaire for customization purposes. It asked questions about the types of outdoor activities I like, and I chose hiking, camping (car), backpacking, and yoga. They had loads of options, though, like rock climbing, moutain biking, fishing -- just about everything I could think of! They also asked a few lifestyle questions (kids? dogs?) plus basics like t-shirt size.

All this leads me to believe that contents may vary from subscriber to subscriber, so if you subscribe but get different things, please let me know!

cairn-feb-luminoodle

cairn-feb-luminoodle-2

Power Practical Luminoodle - Value $19.99

This is why I love Cairn. It introduces me to so many neat things! This is an illuminated rope! It's five feet long, and comes with clips, has embedded magnets, and you can light it up inside the bag and use it as a lantern. Amazing! This will come in so handy during camping.

cairn-feb-clips

EasyKlip 4-Pack - Value $8.99

These clips are the kind of things that may not seem too exciting to receive in a subscription box, but we will be really glad to have them when we need them. They are super strong and actually grip harder when they are pulled! These are perfect for hanging a tarp outdoors when it rains.

cairn-feb-aloksak

aLoksak 4x7 2-pack - Value $8.42

OMG I can't wait to play Candy Crush the next time I'm scuba diving! I'm kidding, I don't dive, and if I did, my phone would be the last thing on my mind, but this is a really good dry bag for keeping your phone safe from the elements. This will come in handy at the beach for sure.

cairn-feb-bar

Jimmy's Bar Peanut Butter Clutter - Value $2.50

I haven't tried this bar yet, but it has all natural ingredients and five grams of protein. This will be a great snack the next time we're on an outdoors adventure.

Also pictured is a coupon for Powerpot 5, which somehow uses fire to charge your phone. That sounds amazing! I don't know that we need to charge our phone that badly, but maybe when the kids get old enough to do multi-day backpacking we might.

Verdict: We love our Cairn subscription! We have discovered so many new and useful products for our camping and hiking adventures through Cairn. I have noticed the value of products in my Cairn subscription has gone down a bit lately, but it is still much higher than the cost of the box. This month's package has a value of about $40, which is great for a $25 box!

Seems like there is some variety. My group of subs all got the lithium battery pack instead of the lights. I’m hoping for the lights as I’ve yet to get my Feb box yet.

We got the same box. I signed up because of your reviews & get it for my husband & our 7 yr old Cub Scout. The guys love opening the box & adding the gadgets to their camping stash. It’s a great sub, look forward to it each month!

I found Cairn box because of MSA and gave my husband a 3 month subscription for his birthday – he loved it so much he signed up for a whole year! I think they send the same box to everyone and it’s always a hit with him.

There seems to be some variance on some items. I got everything that’s in the review here except the Luminoodle. I got a Power Practical Lithium 4400 instead. I think this, or a similar product, was in a previous box, but that’s fine with me since this was my first month subscribing.

I received the PP Lithium 4400 as well. This was my second box so I think those who received the 4400 previously got the luminoodle and vice versa.

Serena

I got the same items as you and love it! I ate the peanut butter bar this morning and it was awesome.

I love reading your reviews, and I think I need to sign up for this subscription. Do you happen to know if I sign up today, if I would receive the February box. I hope so, because it looks great, but I’d probably subscribe anyway!

Thanks so much, Angie! I think you would receive March’s box, but you should email customer service and ask if you could get the February box. It couldn’t hurt!
