Cairn is a subscription service that delivers outdoor gear every month. They bill their service as "Your Monthly Box of Outdoor Discovery." The weather has been so warm this fall (now winter) that our outdoor activities are still going strong!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cairn Subscription Box Review January 2016 - quote

When I signed up for Cairn, they asked me to do a huge questionnaire for customization purposes. It asked questions about the types of outdoor activities I like, and I chose hiking, camping (car), backpacking, and yoga. They had loads of options, though, like rock climbing, moutain biking, fishing -- just about everything I could think of! They also asked a few lifestyle questions (kids? dogs?) plus basics like t-shirt size.

All this leads me to believe that contents may vary from subscriber to subscriber, so if you subscribe but get different things, please let me know!

Cairn Subscription Box Review January 2016 - mug

Eco Vessel Double Barrel Mug - Value $20

I needed a new travel mug, so this was perfect timing! Plus it's insulated to keep coffee nice and hot. It holds two cups - I need two cups!

Cairn Subscription Box Review January 2016 - bandana

McGovern & Co. Wilderness Survival Bandana - Value $12

I love everything about this bandana. It will keep the hair out of my face, I can use it to mop the sweat off my face, and if worse comes to worse, I can red my way out of wilderness danger just by looking at it! How cool is that? Although I keep imagining makeup and hair chalk all over it for some reason. I should probably cut back on the glamping.

Cairn Subscription Box Review January 2016 - slaplit

Nite Ize LED SlapLit - Value $12

This is a light-up slap bracelet for outdoor nighttime visibility. What a great idea! Especially now that it's winter and it gets dark so early, this will really come in handy!

Cairn Subscription Box Review January 2016 - extras

Elemental Herbs All Good Lips SPF15 Original - Value $3.50

Have I mentioned the insane amounts of lip balm we go through at my house in the winter? This one looks extra promising too as it has SPF protection and is oxybenzome free. Also included this in this month's box were a sticker and a coupon for 25% off at McGovern & Co.

Verdict: We love our Cairn subscription! We have discovered so many new and useful products for our camping and hiking adventures through Cairn. This month's box has a value of $47.50, which is wonderful for a $25 box!

Anna do they ever have coupons for subscriptions? I like camping, hiking, kayaking…basically most outdoor activities and this sounds perfect 🙂

I filled out a survey as well when I subscribed to cairn, but I think this is the first time they may have really tailored it!! I’m a big skier, and may have mentioned it a few times in reviews as well as marking it as my main outdoor activity on the survey. In my January box I got a Black Strap balaclava, Sven Can See no-fog spray for goggles, a packet of Swix ski wax, and the same All Good Lips balm you received. I’ve already had a chance to put everything but the wax to good use. Great cairn box!
