BLUUM JAN 2016 REVIEW - BOX

Bluum
3.1 overall rating
24 Ratings | 12 Reviews

Bluum is a monthly subscription box for babies and toddlers. Their boxes are very customized – specific to the month of your child’s age. Also, they recently began allowing you to “build your own Bluum,” meaning you can even pick what products you’ll receive out of a very wide selection of items (one of my very favorite parts of this subscription!). However, subscribers can still skip choosing their items in order to still be surprised each month.

BLUUM JAN 2016 REVIEW - packaging

The box I’m reviewing is customized from my preferences and choices for my son, who was born this past September! Because of this, my box may look completely different than someone else’s box.

BLUUM JAN 2016 REVIEW - items 1

EverEarth Elephant Grasping Toy – value: $10.99

This elephant toy feels really nice, and I think it’s cute!

Ulubulu Teething Ring – value: $5.99

This teething ring is designed to be cooled and have different textures to help baby’s sore gums. I gave this to my son right away and he seemed to like it!

BLUUM JAN 2016 REVIEW - items 2

Baby Spa USA 3 in 1 Tearless Shampoo, Body Wash & Moisturizer - Stage 1 – 13.5 fl oz (full size), value: $10.99

I’m excited about this 3-in-1 shampoo, wash, and moisturizer because my son’s skin tends to be dry, and he’s also not a fan of getting lotion rubbed on him! I do that as much as I can, but I’ll be happy to have a wash that won’t dry him out, too.

VeraClean Dish Soap, Vintage Sage – 16 fl oz (full size), value: $12

This dish soap is an all-natural product and smells really nice, too. I’m happy to have this!

BLUUM JAN 2016 REVIEW - items 3

Angel Dear Carmel Beenie in Navy, 0-6m – value: $16.99

I can’t find this hat for sale online to confirm Bluum’s value, but I personally wouldn’t pay $17 for it. It’s actually quite a thin knit – it wouldn’t keep a baby’s head warm in cold wind or anything.

Eric Carle Reversible Seatbelt Strap Cover – Caterpillar – value: $5.99

Eric Carle and his books have a special place in my heart so I am so happy to have these Very Hungry Caterpillar seatbelt covers!

BLUUM JAN 2016 REVIEW - items 4

Baby Spa Samples, Shea Butter Diaper Cream and Soothing Face Cream

Verdict: I absolutely have to mention something special about this month’s Bluum box – I received 6 items. However, the Bluum Choice option that Bluum offers (it lets you build your own box) allows for 4 (I picked the baby wash, hat, seatbelt covers, and teething ring, but didn’t choose the dish soap or elephant toy). When I called customer service about it, they told me that the items I picked were a low enough total value that it flagged in their system to add more products for me to make a better value! I didn’t know they did this, but I’m really happy they do! That’s such a nice thing. It’d be so easy for them to say “well, those are the items you picked, too bad!” So, I really appreciate this of them, especially with the price increases for 2016! I think it shows they’re watching out to make sure subscribers still get a worthwhile value.

The value of my January Bluum box is $62.95! I’m happy with that.

I canceled last year because my 2 year old received several things for a 0-3 months old baby. I thought I would give them another shot now that I can pick my own items. Wrong.

1. I received nothing I selected.
2. My January box showed up in February.
3.I was told I would receive an extra item because of the delay, which I didn’t.
4. I got terrible items – panda eye mask, dish soap, a plastic diarrhea green sandwich container that looks like it came from the dollar store and 2 little plastic bowls

Buyer beware when dealing with this company.

I also cancelled because I received horrible items and minimal items i asked for. I received three bibs and a cardboard stroller tags.
I cancelled my script. I got boxes for several months also.

Interesting. Last month, my box total came to $33.89 and I did not receive any additional treats. Your box came to $39.96 and it was flagged as low. Maybe because I paid for an entire year up front, thus my monthly cost was low? Regardless, that doesn’t make me super happy. I have very mixed feelings about this subscription box.

Do you build your own box? I have no idea if its that, or maybe it’s a new 2016 thing? I asked if this is something they do for everyone and she said yes. I also have my Bluum on my personal email so it’s not linked to MSA, either. Sorry, that’s weird!

I did build my own box and it was for January 2016. That really bums me out. I’ll keep watch and see what happens next month.

Vanessa

We cancelled last month after receiving for about 6 months. The value wasn’t bad, but there weren’t enough items for me to choose from and I would end up picking items that I wouldn’t normally buy anyways, just to get something. I’d rather just buy whatever I want from Babies R Us. I wonder if you only got the extra items bc you were doing the box for review purposes. Like would that really happen with anyone else?

Hi, Vanessa! I did wonder that and on the phone I asked the Customer Service girl if it’s something they do for everyone and she said “oh yes.” This is also a box we pay for (vs being sent for review), and it’s linked to my personal email so they don’t see that the being ordered by MSA. We do make sure we don’t get any kind of “media” or “blogger” boxes, or special treatment or extras.

Wow, that box is amazing compared to the ones my niece has ever gotten. Also, i think i mentioned this last month, she got 2 of the same items last month, as a 23 month old. The hat, which clearly said sized for 6 months, and the car seat covers were included (as surprise items). And definitely have NEVER received more than 5 items, even with a low value. To be honest, once the pre-paid subscription term ends, it’s not a subscription we plan to renew.

Do you build your own box? I’ve found that makes all the difference for me. I can make sure I don’t get duplicates and that I get things I’ll use!

I haven’t had the opportunity to select items yet, but i’m thinking it may be time to do that!

Kitty

This was my second month choosing the items and WOW! It makes a HUGE difference!! I got my 6 month old the teether that looks like corn….OMG he LOVES it!

Just a heads up, I got my carseat checked by my local fire department last week and they told me that use of seatbelt strap covers (not manufactured by the carseat company you have) voids the warranty.

Kate

Just coming on here to say this same thing, unfortunately the car seat strap covers are really dangerous to use with car seats, they can interfere with the seats function in an accident. Totally fine for strollers though!
